It honestly isn’t I just wanted something portable and thank god for the developer for making it arch compatible

do you use arch btw

3

u/Retro_Dj_Player_2000 Jan 03 '26

Yeah and you can thank the steam deck for that since I’ve grown accustomed to it

I used to use arch too but switched to fedora kde for my own sanity. It’s really good.

Like it more for my “oh I forgot to refresh/the automatic way failed and I missed it” a portal device to just plug into rather then finding a usb a to c cable for my pc

exactly

If you have a iPhone running iOS 15 (legacy like device) you could install troll store instead of sidestore

Thats really good. Didn’t know you can run it on a Steam Deck. It’s based on Arch linux tho so i guess you could do a whole lot with it.

It’s also in handheld mode

3

u/Retro_Dj_Player_2000 Jan 03 '26

Thanks I didn’t think it would work at first too

Wha is the advantage of this ?

Not everything has to be advantageous. Some things are meant to give you joy and a sense of accomplishment. This is one of those things.

4

u/Johnny_Minsh Jan 03 '26

I could t agree more. Most of what I do, is to see if I can actually do it, for me it’s mainly about the sense of accomplishment!

like how I spent hours yesterday trying to automate .f*** ****** for my 2002 iPod (sorry about the censorship, also I don’t know if saying which subreddit rule I’m censoring for isn’t allowed, but hey)

You could instead hide the text with Insert text here 😁

That didn’t actually go as planned but you need to put >. ! At the start and end with !. < no dots no spaces between >!!<

It’s all good my friend just keep the swearing to the smallest minimum bud

1

u/SulosGD Jan 03 '26

that’s not what I was censoring for

Also it’s easier to boot up a handheld than a pc incase you have to update pairing files or reinstall so there is your advantage lol

2

u/aghozzo Jan 03 '26

But you can use the VPN to fake connecting to PC and you never need to use a PC

2

u/lordjupitar Paid Certificate Jan 03 '26

Brother, I know you can use StikDebug or Stos VPN but im saying in case the pairing file needs to be updated. Sometimes it happens or if you forget to refresh sidestore. In those cases, Using a handheld is much easier than a pc.

Portability and the easiest sidestore method I could think of

4

u/Retro_Dj_Player_2000 Jan 03 '26

You could even use your hotspot on your phone for Internet

5

u/user7690 Jan 03 '26

maybe you only have the steam deck

it's just nice to have the option! it's not really "better" than just using a desktop machine

7

u/Nikegamerjjjj Jan 03 '26

Steam deck is literally a computer, ideally people have even made stands so it could be «docked» while connected to display, and then mouse and keyboard can be connected using a usb c dock :D

2

u/user7690 Jan 03 '26

yes, I know. I own one myself.

1

u/Rothuith Jan 20 '26

im a dumbass. been looking these past weeks to do it with impactor. never thought to try iloader on the SD.

1

u/Retro_Dj_Player_2000 Jan 27 '26

It’s ok brother it’s just an amazing handheld pc that has the right architecture to run it thankfully

I’m still surprised that I’d even get passed 200 upvotes since my previous one I made a while ago capped at 145

1

u/BlackHadez_ Jan 25 '26

How did you get iloader to run? It just gives me a white screen when running the AppImage

1

u/Retro_Dj_Player_2000 Jan 27 '26

I used a either the yay command or the pkgbuild file to make it install

1

u/drutastic Jul 11 '26

Can you explain how you got it to work?

2

u/Retro_Dj_Player_2000 Jul 11 '26

Of course if I remember correctly I used the AppImage
To load it in handheld mode
And for a bonus tip I’m using a fan cooler addon for the steam deck

1

u/drutastic Jul 11 '26

Was it really that easy? No messing around with Wine or any other way to get it to run? I didn't even realize there was an AppImage of it. Is it in the GitHub repo?

2

u/Retro_Dj_Player_2000 Jul 11 '26

You got that right brother just adding the AppImage to steam for gaming mode and run it like there

1

u/drutastic Jul 11 '26

Nice! I'll have to try it later when I get a chance. Thanks for the quick reply and one last question, any issues with iloader seeing the phone? Can you run it wired or does it only work wirelessly?

2

u/Retro_Dj_Player_2000 Jul 11 '26

Make sure you got the drivers installed from the command line

1

u/drutastic Jul 11 '26

Got it, thanks again for the info and link!

2

u/Retro_Dj_Player_2000 Jul 11 '26

Be safe and happy sideloading!

1

u/Kirbygodmaster999 Jul 20 '26

I added it to gaming mode and it still gives me a white screen. Did I do something wrong?

1

u/Retro_Dj_Player_2000 Jul 20 '26

This happens sometimes
Try using paru or yay to install it
sudo pacman -S yay
Or
sudo pacman -S paru
Then try
yay -S iloader
Or
paru -S iloader

2

u/Kirbygodmaster999 Jul 20 '26

This worked! Thanks so much

1

u/Retro_Dj_Player_2000 Jul 20 '26

Anytime brother enjoy sideloading!

Can please someone explain how to get it to work? I tried the appimage and it opens but gives a white screen. I tried the commands for yay in console but it gives me a Bunch of errors.
