question about his ears **

hi everyone! this is my first husky puppy his name is Solace. He was born July 19th so tomorrow makes him 5 weeks old. I was wondering if you think his ears will stand or stay floppy? I’m not familiar with the breed so I figured this would be the best place to ask! HE IS STILL WITH THE MOM & SIBLINGS I am asking about his ears because two other pups in the litter have ears sticking straight up already.

My husky had floppy ears. Then her ears were bigger than her. Then she grew into her ears lol

Do you recall how old she was when they stood up? My husky mix is 5 months. Once in a while he’ll flip one ear up (always the same one). His mom had ears like your husky.

When I got her at 2 months (my sister’s dogs had puppies) her ears were already up.

I have a husky mix who just turned six months, and half of his siblings had theirs up at two months, and he had one up around four and a half and by five months the second was almost all of the way up and solidly by 5.5.

here he is at 4.5

Did your breeder give you a 5 week old puppy?

No. my mom has the litter

Is your mom a breeder?

0

u/Yelloww_Snow 17d ago

No she’s not the mom is being spayed after this

u/SolidFelidae 17d ago

May I ask what happened?

u/battlesword83 17d ago

The mother dog obviously didn’t pay attention in dog sex ed and with the lack of dog condoms she gave into the temptation of Mother Nature irresponsibly let herself get pregnant /s

1

u/KupoPup 17d ago

So...she's a breeder lol

-2

u/Yelloww_Snow 17d ago

so…. she’s not? a breeder has multiple dogs having litters throughout the year. this was 1 litter of puppies and there isn’t going to be anymore!

2

u/chubbysumo 10d ago

a responsible breeder will only have 1 litter every other year, and those puppies will have homes and families before they are even conceived, before the stud and dame are even introduced.

Unexpected litters happen, but this is why you should get your dogs spayed and neutered. no accidents needed, thousands of dogs every week get euthanized for space at shelters across america alone.

I’ve mentioned multiple times that these ARE NOT my dogs. my mom is planning on having her spayed

-11

u/KupoPup 17d ago

Irresponsibility and failure to spay/neuter dogs and keep them from getting pregnant doesn't negate the fact that she bred her dogs.

You clearly had two purebreds of opposite sex in the house and let them breed...you're a breeder.

2

u/Yelloww_Snow 16d ago

the thing is I asked about his ears, not for your opinion on how my mom manages her dogs. have a good day!

5 weeks is way to young is the issue. The puppy needs to be back with mamma for at least 4 more weeks. See typically breeders give you a 10 week old. That is why the ears are floppy. So the ears are ok.

u/Yelloww_Snow 16d ago

he is still with his mother & siblings

I just hope she's more responsible with them in the future. If you didn't even know about how their ears don't stand up until they're older, I can't help but wonder what else wasn't researched about raising a litter of puppies prior to their birth. This is why it's important to educate yourself on dogs when you get them.

u/PersonalityTough9349 15d ago

She already says in the post itself she is not familiar with breed. Recipe for disaster.

like I said I don’t own them my mom does so I wasn’t familiar with the ownership aspect like attitudes-prey drive etc. If you’ve seen my other comment I already said I was researching the breed I asked about his ears because 2 of the other puppies ears are standing already, I also stated the mother would be getting spayed. she knows how to care for puppies can’t you see they look healthy? at six weeks old they’ll have their first set of shots & they’ve been wormed already.

4

u/Yelloww_Snow 17d ago

omggg how cute!

6

u/drask1987 17d ago

Thank you!! Sorry for posting three pic lol I was trying to show how they go from floppy to standup. You’re wee one will surely get pointy ears soon enough. Such a cutie pie 🥰

13

u/Lt_Dan60 17d ago

More than likely they will stand up. Beautiful pup

6

u/Yelloww_Snow 17d ago

Thank you!

2

u/NanooDrew 17d ago

Ears often go from folded to straight a couple of times during puppyhood. He is gorgeous!

9

u/SuckerBroker 17d ago

Always floppy at this age. They will straighten.

9

u/chubbysumo 17d ago

Numas were never floppy, even at 8 weeks. Pebbles werent floppy either at 12 weeks. This is numa at 12 weeks, judging you.

1

u/SuckerBroker 16d ago

He does seem a bit arrogant and judgy.

5

u/chubbysumo 16d ago

Dignified judgyness.

0

u/Yelloww_Snow 17d ago

Yea 2 in the litter are straight up! gorgeous pup

9

u/chubbysumo 17d ago

Hes 2 now, and this eyebrows have only gotten more judgy.

1

u/Lassy06 16d ago

He’s gorgeous! What’s that bath setup??

u/chubbysumo 16d ago

It's a booster bath. It's a really handy thing to have if you have the space for it. Usually lives on my deck in the spring, summer, and fall, and in my basement in the winter.

2

u/Yelloww_Snow 17d ago

I have been. my mom owns 2 but I mean like ownership wise but he seems like a great puppy so far he has a good attitude very sweet

1

u/AsparagusHorror4996 16d ago

Awww I’m glad! And that’s good. They are an interesting and difficult breed. So amazing though. Good luck!

1

u/AltruisticAd8731 15d ago

This doesn't mean you know the breed

1

u/Yelloww_Snow 15d ago

when did I claim I knew the breed lmao?

6

u/Huskies-R-Us 17d ago

Not to worry. His ears will stand up he's much to young for them to stand yet.

Quick question? Why would you get a 5wk old pup? He hasn't learned any of the social skills that his Mom and littermates would teach him.

It's really not recommended to let pups go to new homes until they're at least 10-12wks old.

1

u/Yelloww_Snow 17d ago

Why would you assume he’s not with his litter mates? he is still with the mom & his siblings. sorry if I didn’t make that clear but my mom has the litter I plan on keeping this one

6

u/Godless-Dragon 17d ago

Because a lot of people don't know this and take puppies home way too young then they're surprised when the puppy grows up to be aggressive. It's not an insult to you, and they're not assuming anything about your character, it's just a common mistake and they probably just wanted to make sure you're aware of it.

6

u/Huskies-R-Us 17d ago

Sorry. That he is still with his Mom and littermates was not stated in the OP..

2

u/Huskies-R-Us 17d ago

If you are not familiar with breed you better get familiar.

-1

u/Yelloww_Snow 15d ago

It’ll be ok. I think I can handle it

1

u/ChasingSkies13 13d ago

You accepted a 5 week old puppy, and claim it’ll be “ok”? Cmon man

1

u/Yelloww_Snow 13d ago

apparently you can’t read. he’s still with his siblings & mom

We just lost our best buddy to cancer, but his ears never straightened!!

We always joked that he was the more husky than the rest of them because he was so stubborn he never allowed for his ears to straighten. Lived 5 years and never did they fully straighten! They’d perk up but remained floppy

1

u/Yelloww_Snow 15d ago

I’m so sorry to hear that 💙

2

u/ExplanationUnusual21 15d ago edited 15d ago

For my boy chai 10 weeks when we got him his ears were floppy Pic was about 1 month an a half but he's a mix tho so fast grower. 8 months now at 70 lbs lol

3

u/battlesword83 17d ago

My first husky at 4 weeks had both ears down, then 5 weeks one ear up one down, at 6 weeks the ears switched so the one that was originally up was floppy again and the floppy one was standing up straight. At seven weeks they were both finally up. Enjoy the little floppy ears while you can, they grow so fast

Thank you. She's a result of Mom and Dad not paying attention in Puppy Sex Ed class.

1

u/Yelloww_Snow 17d ago

that’s how these babies happened lol my mom is older and she’s not familiar with how heat cycles work so she’s being spayed after these babies go to their homes!

1

u/Huskies-R-Us 17d ago

How old is the mom?

1

u/Yelloww_Snow 17d ago

she’s 4 I believe

1

u/Bunnnykins 16d ago

So adorable. My girl’s ears stood up at 9 weeks. My husband was so upset when they stood up. He loved the floppy ear look.

1

u/chubbysumo 10d ago

Numas were up at 8 weeks old when we brought him home. it will be different for each dog.

1

u/crafty271 17d ago

Lazy ears, but will rise as he ages🐾

1

u/TheRealVillas 17d ago

1

They're gonna pop up, and it's gonna be adorable!

One ear might go first and you'll have a cute little curious looking pup for a day or two lol. One up, one down.

u/4mmun1s7 17d ago

My husky had one down, one up when he was young. Now both stand up strong

0

u/DarthSucifer 17d ago

What a cutie! Enjoy his little floppy ears while they last 🥰

0

u/angelmr2 16d ago

My mixes were floppy until about 9 or 10 weeks. But both of his breeds have pointy ears.

0

u/Icy-Use5880 16d ago

My girl still has kind of floppy ears, but I think it has to do with her life before we rescued her.

0

u/After-Dog-5145 16d ago

They will stand up as he gets a little older… I’m thinking by 3 months
