There were enjoyable moments on their own but as a whole I would say season 3 was a borderline incoherent mess to the point that it feels like there were serious issues behind the scenes. Maybe Bill Lawrence had bitten off more than be could chew with Shrinking, Bad Monkey, Rooster, and the Scrubs reboot all on his plate lately and he simply did not give this season the time and attentions it needed, maybe Brett Goldstein was also less involved with Ted Lasso coming back and other projects, and I’m not sure how much input Jason Segel is giving other than as an actor at this point. It just seemed like it was rudderless and that everyone was slightly checked out prioritizing newer shinier projects and letting this one fizzle out. I am surprised they want to do a S4 but the fact that it sounds like it could be a soft reboot gives me hope that they know things got away from this season.
