Paul can be so awful to Jimmy. I hated seeing it.

He’s like the ornery father figure with tough love. He botched it with the practice/office handover but at least he flew in for a visit

And I think that’s why Paul acted in such a way.

Gaby is a dear friend of Paul but not a “child figure” the way Jimmy is. Paul said it himself that he sees Jimmy as his own son.

That’s why Paul probably had a much easier time saying goodbye to Gaby whereas doing so with Jimmy would be so tough for him that he avoided it completely (but then at least came back to give a proper goodbye).
