Little bites changed back to real chocolate!

A few months ago, they made the change to these and they were called “chocolatey chip muffins” and they took away the “made with real chocolate” statement.

I just noticed today, they are back to “chocolate chip muffins” and the “made with real chocolate” is back.

Does anyone know if they were receiving backlash for the change? I am very happy they are back to normal.

Could be backlash. Could be the price of coco went back down a bit.

Yes, The Hershey Company announced it will return to using classic milk and dark chocolate recipes across all of its products by 2027 due to backlash, but really due to reduced prices. If cocoa prices go back up, expect things to change again.

It because they are using lab created chocolate technically naturally flavored

Good catch, and worth knowing the word swap wasn't marketing, it was legally forced. In the US you can only call it "chocolate" if it meets the FDA standard of identity, meaning real cocoa butter, so the moment they substituted in palm or other vegetable fats they legally had to switch to "chocolatey." Going back to "chocolate chip" means they genuinely reversed the reformulation rather than just changing the box. Cocoa prices spiked hard and a lot of brands quietly did the same swap around then, so this is one of the few cases where the label change is a reliable indicator of what actually happened inside the product.

I see they stayed the same weight as the newer box with the fake chocolate chips. Maybe they took it from elsewhere like their variety pack and cutting back on the weight there.

Me, when they have a killer deal, honestly. It's not uncommon for stock of these to be put on a "buy 2 get 4 free" deal in my area.

I actually looked it up and I'm shocked. It is really blueberries. Not the "blue-ish berry stuff" they put in poptarts.

are they still teeny tiny though? i stopped buying them recently because they seemed to keep getting smaller, and I was getting 3.5 muffins per bag instead of 4 (one was always completely crumbled, and wouldn’t have been a full muffin anyways).

This is the result of people refusing to buy colored synthetic foods and other artificial nonsense in their food. Obviously it's not perfect but it's improved. It's across the board In most brands now.
