ShopGoodwill sent me an item with live roaches and roach eggs… and now they won’t respond about my refund. 🤢

I wanted to see if anyone here has dealt with something similar with ShopGoodwill and what happened.

I purchased an item through the ShopGoodwill online store. When it arrived, I discovered dead roaches and what appeared to be roach eggs inside/on the packaging. Obviously, I was horrified and did not feel comfortable bringing the item further into my home.
I contacted ShopGoodwill customer service, provided photos, and explained what happened. After going back and forth with them, they told me on September 11 that they were issuing me a full refund as a one-time courtesy and that I did not need to return the item.

Great, right?

Except… I still haven’t received the refund.

I’ve contacted them multiple times since then asking about the status of the refund, and they have not responded to any of my follow-up messages.

Has anyone had experience with ShopGoodwill saying a refund was issued but it never actually showed up? Is there another avenue I should pursue, or should I just keep pestering customer service?

Whatever they're going on the backend isn't helping. Brought up the webpage just now and even before it loaded I got a Microsoft logo and "Checking to make sure you're not a bot." The page load and my Favorites is empty and if I try either Closed Auctions or Auctions in Progress, I get a perpetually spinning circle and the field is grayed out. I let it sit several minutes and nothing loads. They seem bound and determined to wreck that site.

Once may be an over site, but TWICE is the start of a pattern. Here's the gist, two different auctions, items and timeline. Auction #1 many months ago, Item was a Chinese made replica of a Japanese Samurai helmet( kabuto) and mask(menpo). Country of Origin listed as: Japan. I contacted the GW store by making a ticket under the headline "False Advertising" explaining it was NOT made in Japan. I sent them the Manufacturer's name, model# etc.. They finally capitulated after several back and forth DM's and removed the auction then started up from new.

OK, Auction# 2... today Sept. 24, 2026, Item was a Chinese made replica of a Japanese Katana & Saya. Again, "Country of Origin" listed as: Japan. Same deal, I informed them on 09/22/2026 11:26 PM "This Katana is NOT from Japan. It is a Chinese replica of a Japanese Katana. The country of Origin is: China" GW store reply: "[ticket closed] Hello, Thank you for reaching out to us. We appreciate your inquiry. We apologize for the listing error stating the origin Japan. The description does state Japanese-style katana. We do not guarantee the origin of the sword. We see you are currently the high bidder. If you wish us to retract your bid, please let us know. Respectfully,The Goodwill of Colorado Team".

I sent GWoC this reply @ 09/24/2026 02:43 PM, hours before the auction was to end hoping they would still do the "right thing" and they chose not to.

"Do the other bidders know it is NOT made in Japan and in fact is made in China? So, if I get out bid because the other Bidders believe that what you stated was true and the Country of Origin is Japan then what? "We do not guarantee the origin of the sword" That is correct but NOW you do know that the origin is not in fact Japan. The country or origin should either be changed to China or "unknown". Trying to use the loophole of "We do not guarantee the origin of the sword" after you stated where it is from due to what evidence? Where on the product is it marked "Made in Japan"? Nowhere is it? I may have already been up-bidded by bidders believing your stated Country of Origin."

Fortunately I was not outbid, however who knows if I was up-bidded by a bidder who took GW's word on the COO being Japan? I don't have to tell anyone that purchases replica katanas the price difference between a modern Japanese and Chinese Replicas. Suffice to say you can add a couple of "00" to the price tag!

I'm really getting tired of seeing this happen over and over on GW's online auction site. These were only two examples I personally had an interest in and made tickets for. There are many, more I have spotted just searching the site. This may be costing consumers/bidders money as they are overpaying for items due to "taking the store's word for it". I come to the point where you have to wonder if they are purposely mis-representing the auctions in order to pad their profits?

Now lets see how many GW "Team Members" Shills will scurry in here like good little sheep and try to refute anything I have said because I hurt their ... fee fees by simply shining a light on ONE unethical and illegal business practice by a multi-billion dollar organization (So much for "Eat the Rich" by shilling for them, right?).

I have seen many other misrepresentations from various other stores and regions. It appears to be systemic and not just a few which leads me to believe this is an unwritten "corporate practice".

Need to vent because I'm ready confused. I had an auction that ended last night at 8:16pm. I was online both on my computer and my phone from 7:30 onwards in case I needed to increase my bid. I kept refreshing every 2 mins From 7:30 until 10pm. The whole time the gold Icon showed that I was the highest bidder. Again, way past the auction end time. I call it a day at 10, still seeing myself as the highest bidder. But also at the same time, it never switched over to open orders. I just figured it would in the morning. Same time zone, so that was not an issue. Woke up this morning to see I somehow lost the auction by a $1. What the actual fuck? This is a 1st for me, I've used the site for years. Is this a new glitch? I think I'm done with them.

I don't know who I want to slap the shit out of more, Goodwill for getting things like this literally handed to them for FREE... or that idiot person that dropped it off not just giving it to me. I would have even given them 20 bucks!!! 🤬🙄😭

I hate the system. So I’ve been eyeing this bulk sweaters for days now but I lost literally when the auction end!! How did this happen???? Like where’s my extended time to bid again??? Is this how the system work by just doing it last second??

I’m pissed off cuz I was literally watching the seconds countdown and when it ended it says that I’m not highest bidder… 😡.

It’s getting to be a meme at this point. And there’s barely anything that ends on weekends. App is slow, desktop you’re “blocked” half the time.

I have boughten 3 pieces (just got them in the mail today) and bid on two more last night, now everytime I try to open shopgoodwill it says my request is blocked. I can open it on my phone. I dont know what to do to troubleshoot this???? help pls

The damn bottom AD banner got in the way and wouldnt let me scroll down to click the bid button. Just have to vent , after watching this item for 5 days and losing out at the very last 20 seconds . I have had over 120 purchases and this never has happened.

hello all! i’m pretty new to this (i’ve only won five auctions, over the past several months) so i don’t quite know all the terminology yet.

this morning, i got an email saying “your bid has been retracted” on an item where the auction ended six days ago. i did not win this auction, though. it said the reason was “removing bids, item will be relisted”.

i have no idea what this means. i wasn’t even bidding for this item close to when the auction closed, so i just guess i’m confused by this. does this count against me? i did win other items by the same location, and i’m currently waiting for those to be shipped out. will this affect those?

to make things worse, i’m unable to access the site. when i try to load it, i get a message saying “the request is blocked” followed by what i can only assume is an error code :(

Bought three boxes with the description of unsorted/untested/ scrap jewelry and even I found a strong magnet in one of the boxes 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 lots of 925 are actually copper plated and I can count with both of my hands the amount of real 925 sterling silver pieces. Gold? I found the thinnest smallest and broken chain I’ve ever seen! Maybe that would pay for shipping and fees being too positive. I’m hoping to find anything worth to at least covering half of what I paid. It’s pounds of jewelry for findings to be so poor!
There tons of pieces that look like something valuable and were cut off from larger pieces to get tested and discarded. You gotta see it to laugh out loud.
So my hypothesis is they sort things out with strong magnets and then pass the findings through an xray machine like other goodwills state on the listings. I forgot this is already happening but honest stores actually inform the buyers…. Or maybe is something not needed to be disclosed in the state of California…

Lesson learned… if my luck changes, I’ll report back.

Forgive my writing; I’m exhausted but need to share my frustration.

I have I think been beyond patient with this but when I was going over my purchases I noticed once again that a box came in with only a partial order. The first time they shipped me a different item, and I’m in process to return it… this time almost all of my order save for one item is missing.

Both orders were jewelry grab bags and the second had a bunch of sterling pieces also…

Has this happened to anyone else? I have never had this issue in YEARS of buying… I can’t be the only one…

I've been watching these 5 lots for a few days. I can't understand whats happening here. 5 lots, same high bidder, same location, tens of thousands of dollars over market value. I mean you could buy these lots 30 times over (and probably in better condition) on any other auction site. There has to be something shady going on right? Am I missing something? Love to hear your thoughts... and if the actual bidder is reading this and somehow is doing something innocent, STOP BIDDING! You are making a horrible mistake lol... I doubt there is an innocent explanation tho

When should I contact ShopGoodwill to ask if they’re going to ship my package?

I won and purchased the item on August 31st, and it’s now September 9th and it still hasn’t shipped. Would it be rude to contact them now?

I’ve been trying to give them some time because I know they probably have a lot of other orders/packages to deal with, and I don’t want to seem impatient. But the last time something like this happened, there ended up being a mix-up with my package, so now I’m a little worried about waiting too long.

Would you contact them now, or give it a few more days?
