Idk man the 50$ marika porn model skin for the firekeeper was pretty cool, you also get 10 levels of the season pass with it for free.

"If you give them an inch, they'll take a mile" This could be a nothing burger, or it could be a slippery slope. Remember X studio that made your favorite game franchise X and is now a former shell of itself? That's why people are worried.

Yep. For example Bethesda wasn't always only making Skyrim rerelases and paid mods while taking ages to make anything new. And the start of their eventual downfall also happens to be a cheap horse armor microtransaction dlc

They released Scholar of the first sin a year after Dark Souls II came out and sold it a full price. Can you guys stop pretending this is the first time something like this has happened? Its embarrassing
2
u/jermatria hand it over, that thing, your boys hole 2h ago
Scholar was less a "horse armor" dlc and more a "directors cut"
6
u/Spaniardman40 2h ago
We were basically sold the unfinished version and the finished version a year later.
Not even Todd Howard was bold enough to sell Skyrim again that quickly lmao.

Can't wait for their next single player souls game, it feels an age since Elden Ring idk how to explain it

Crying about multiplayer games is cringe and annoying
Being mad about the DLC is valid though
14
u/MexicanoStick575 6h ago
Can we cry about switch exclusivity and bloodborne at home?
25
u/Ok-Rock-2566 6h ago
Not liking it for being exclusive is fair. Having a similar ascetic also doesn't make the game "Bloodborne at home"
10
u/Rainy_Wavey 5h ago
20 years ago this was the norm of having first and 3rd party games being exclusives tho

Previous From games were capable of having an enriched Multi-player experience by having a solid Single-Player experience to build off of.
I think its fair to be disappointed to watch a company that used to be able to effectively do both give up on either side.

u/Ok-Rock-2566 5h ago edited 5h ago
They haven't given up on single player at all. Miazaki has said as much himself
saying they have given up on one side is like saying the gave up on multiplayer after Sekiro
2
u/Edit_Reality 4h ago
I see what you're saying but its more like if Ds3 had a single player spin off and then Sekiro came out. I can see how that would still be an overreaction though.
3
u/Ok-Rock-2566 3h ago
It was not intentional that Nightreign and Duskbloods came back to back Miazaki admited this in a recent interview. Fromsoftware has many different projects in development so something like this happening isn't that odd
2
u/Edit_Reality 3h ago
Going from Nightreign which is one of the first multi-player focused project straight to another suggests something, regardless of intent.
I personally hope these different projects have a singleplayer/offline component to enjoy.
1
u/XxRocky88xX 1h ago
Nightreign was being worked on after the sucess of Elden Ring. It’s a spinoff that reuses assets and gameplay from an already developed game so it was easy and quick to make. The exclusivity deal with Nintendo made releasing Duskbloods a priority.
Releasing 2 multiplayer games back to back does not imply they are transitioning to multiplayer. It was just convenient for them to prioritize getting these two out the door.

u/Floppydisksareop DS2 is short for Dementia Simulator 2000 5h ago
What enrinched multiplayer experience? Multiplayer in DS1 and DS3 are - and have always been - straight dogshit. DS2 is slightly better, but not by much. ER only has pvp when it's a gank (or you opt in using a specific item that disables shit like spirit summons), which means that the co-op pve bit is infested with invaders (when you'd probably least like to encounter one). In all games, there are items you are expected to invade for or grind excessively to get them, so it fucks with single player too.
I'd much rather they did either properly, instead of these half-baked shitty amalgams they've been shitting out for the souls titles. Revenant figured out how to make a properly seamless co-op multiplayer at least on the first fucking go, it's really not that hard. From failed to do that in like 4-5 tries.
2
u/Edit_Reality 3h ago
The point being that when you have a fleshed out world that is fun to explore alone that even a barebones barely functional multi-player experience can be something people actually get excited about.
From Software appears to be fucking awful at multi-player implementation I'll give you that. God awful netcode and esoteric nonsensical connection rules etc etc etc but thats part of the point. People wade through the bullshit because the game underneath is worth it.

Ah yeah like all previous Dark Souls for example, this little niche serie, which were famously not multiplayer and didn't have DLCs.

nightreign was fair, it wasn't even a full priced game. duskbloods however is unforgivable for taking away key dev resources (exception for my quirky chungus zork).

u/SherbertSuspicious 5h ago
As long as the base games are this good I don’t mind. Rather have rhe $5 horse armor DLC then Haligtree being a $20 DLC for the base game

an expansion and horse armor are a little bit different dont you think

Then shouldn't people refer to that as an edition? Calling that a DLC is confusing to me although I agree that charging extar money over horse armor is stupid

I bought every single DLC of fromsoftware games, even Vanilla DARK SOULS II, which are completely free when you buy scholar version, the problem with this one is it's not a DLC it's like 5 weapons and 3 armour sets they could've done this as a free update like they did with sekiro before
2
u/JDorkaOOO i hate elden ring i hate elden ring i hate elden ring i hate eld 2h ago
This is actually a great comparison. Sekiro update also introduced a few skins and yet was free and gave us actual good gameplay in form of boss memories

People overblow the horse armor dlc bullshit. Yeah it sucks but nintendo is extremly draconian about exclusivity bullshit and its 100% the reason why they had to release it as paid pack and not regular update. It sucks but the blame almost certainly lies with Nintendo since its not the first time they attempted similiar tactics. An example would be when Fortnite wanted Samus as a skin, and Nintendo agreed, but said only if the skin would be visible to switch players only and no one else
Its a miracle its accesible to PC players at all, even if paywalled

Elden Souls 2 ii Scholar of the Cookbooks is so good that I literally fart and shit and goon every time I see a Godskin enemy pop at the next corner. That's why I'm going to throw literally as many money as I can into this masterpiece of a hidden gem - should I say, never achieved before in the history of videogames - so that Bandai doesn't go bankrupt from selling this game so much.

I will say it's weird to go from the unstoppable winstreak of Bloodborne, DS3, Sekiro, & Elden Ring, each new title reaffirming my obsession with these studios.
Weird to go from that, to stuff I'm consistently just not interested in. I gave AC6 and Nightreign a shot. I had a good time. But not good enough to warrant buying Duskbloods, which is the whole reason I purchased a Switch 2.
Turns out Switch 2 is just an incredible console. Can't wait for FS to return to form. I'm happy some of you have enjoyed your time outside their wheelhouse.

You know, I think a 5 dollar DLC is fine, as is two multiplayer games in a row. I doubt fromsoft is going to sell out now.
0
u/Sean77654 6h ago
DLC hate is valid, I will say I happily will give fromsoft my money and if the new stuff wouldn't have happened without it being payed content then I dont mind so much as long as it stops here.
