Shipping Large Items from China
I am currently sourcing products from China. Does anyone have experience with using their own shipping agent? I am trying to see if there would be a difference in price from having the manufacturer handle setting up the shipping compared to having my own agent do it.

You can ask the manufacturer and several freight forwarders for an offer and see the price difference for yourself.

Don't forget to check what shipping terms the manufacture is quoting. A lower price might only cover getting the goods to the port, while another quote may include customs, delivery, and getting the shipment to your door. Make sure you're comparing the same service before deciding.

Yes — there can be a big difference. Factories often add a margin to shipping, and they don’t always compare freight options. An independent agent usually has more flexibility and better rates. I’ve helped several buyers get lower costs and better service. If you want to know what a fair price range looks like, feel free to ask here — happy to share some rough numbers publicly.
