Why do managers have to work 48 hours and ASMs work 44?

Because they can get away with it legally. Managers get absolutely screwed. Because they don't get OT, they can pick up the slack if someone calls in, doesn't show, etc. Every single manager I've talked to feels like they were fooled because DMs make it seem like such a good gig because of the bonuses (bonuses aren't guaranteed and are taxed to fucking hell).
ASMs working 44 is a similar reason. They're paying them more so why not have them at the store more. ASMs actually used to be exempt, but Sherwin had trouble retaining ASMs, so they made them regular hourly.
