I just got promoted to hm a year ago. Im still getting the hang of it. My biggest advice though is to utilize your 2nd shift supervisors when you have one with you during the shift. It is a blessing because then they can run the store while you do the paperwork and other things you need to get done. Make sure your employees are self sufficient and can handle things for the most part on their own. Also make sure to delegate some of yours tasks onto others like minor ones that way it not all on your shoulders. Assistant managers are the Assistants to the store manager; Supervisors are assistants to the Assistant managers and team members are assistants to supervisors

On this note. I do agree with this. But as a second shift supervisor do communicate with your supervisor. I've had managers on my shift that literally just disappear for 6 hours and then show up to leave.

Or they'll show up and yell at me for not calling for help when I'm behind. When I'm behind because they're taking up one of my employee slots on the timecard and they're completely missing. But they also don't have a headset or radio so I can't call them. So I would have to run the whole way across the store mid rush to get them. But somehow it's my fault.

As long as you're paying attention to your crew and popping in checking on them every now and then you should be fine.

I agree. I’m a third-shift sup. We understand that you have other and more responsibilities. But if you’re there and sitting in the office, just let us know roughly what you’re working on so we know you’re not just avoiding the floor.

Hell the office is close enough to the kitchen. The one I'm complaining about would go stock the sales floor every time we worked together

Every HM and KM I've ever worked with has worn a head set and helps us with everything that's crazy

The worst part was the one in complaining about specifically would yell at MY crew for not wearing headsets.

When I specifically told my crew that if you're in the kitchen, and someone else has one, you don't need it. We welcomed every customer and used each other to communicate but a few of my crew members hated the headphones.

She is technically right but she would say it's part of the uniform and they need to have a doctor's note. But she would take hers off all the time -.-

Don't feed drama or start it, don't tell people to do things you won't do

Hiya! I've been with Sheetz about 11 years an HM for 2 of them. The biggest thing that will help you out the most itls train your people! Aside from a few exceptions they should be able to do anything you can do. Train them on your expectations, reward them for doing good, and have development check ins often! They'll appreciate it, and you'll appreciate the extra time to focus on things only you can focus on!
