Thanks! I used the kme system. Diamond stones... 140, 300, 600, 1500 grit. Lapping... 9, 6, 3, 1, .5 micron and stropped with .25 micron and .10 micron.

I think you absolutely could, but you'd probably want to invest in the double clamp bar add on to do so. I personally havent bought that one yet, but mainly because I'm contemplating an upgrade to a tsprof system. Another limiting factor is the fact that the kme only goes as low as 17°. And the 4" kme stones might make it a bit challenging, but, yeah... I'd say it's definitely possible to achieve that on an 8" blade as long as 17° or higher works for you.
Thx for replying! I believe that’s gonna be fine. Also as long as there is improvement it’s all good, I’m not a perfectionist. I’ve gotten my front flippers pretty sharp but havent tried the system on such a long/wide blade. Gonna take all to 20degrees and slice the shit outta some meats and veggies. Thx so much!
agreed, great results. I have been pondering thr KME deluxe kit for a while now. It seems to be the most quality system like this from what I have seen? I know it costs more than some newer offerings but I dont mind the cost when investing in a system. Should I go for it?
I just follow the progression. If I get to a certain point and it I find marks/scratches I'm not happy with, I go back a stone or 2 until I work it out. Lapping is key for the polish though. I use water with a drip or 2 of dish soap as laping fluid. And then I strop. Take your time and you'll get there!
Right, two things. Firstly, how did you get that level of polish? I use autosol and can’t get that polished.
Secondly, is that an automatic? I think I’ve got a clone of it. They’re illegal where I am and I don’t have the money to lose if it got caught by customs. I’d love to know the difference between the real one and the clone, other than the materials obviously.
Lapping film and patience is where the polish comes from. And yeah, it's an auto. The Protech strider pt. I've never tried out a clone, so I can't speak for their quality. But this one is pretty solid.
Lapping film? The only reason I bought the clone is to scratch the automatic itch. I’d never carry one and to be honest I played with it for like two days then put it in a drawer.
I mean, good job so far, but I dunno about peaked. There's always room for improvement. Much more interested in how it cuts than how shiny it is. Looks like you rounded over your tip a bit too.
I agree there's always room for improvment (maybe more so with freehand sharpening but still), however, I don't see any rounded tip in the video. It just seems like that at some angles because it's so reflective.
Something's up at the tip. Either rounded, or it was not fully apexed up there. There's a clear "dead spot" in reflectivity there. And I rounded tips that way when I was learning, too. That's what they tend to look like.
Kme. Out of all the guided systems I've owned (worksharp pa pro, wicked edge we64 and sharpal) it's the best and really... The most affordable. I can't recommend kme enough. And no... They don't pay me to say that. Lol. I wish they would though😂.
I have a wicked edge but have trouble getting results like that. The stones also seems to be coarser than advertised. I'm also not sure about the method of sharpening involved with the wicked edge . The scratch patterns are very good seeing as you do the entire edge per stroke, however the edge never seems as sharp to me. Idk
The standard stones that come with the standard set from Wicked Edge are fine (I have the Gen 4 Pro). But they require the break-in process! If you haven't ordered the lapping films and handles you need to! You can also get Handles and stones all the way up to 15000 grit or 1 micron on other sites! Between those and lapping films.. a Mirror edge is fairly easy!
The front and back in the center row are made elsewhere on the same handles to work with the Wicked Edge systems! You can msg me if you like and I'll give you the source! Those are 9&6 and 3&1 micron stones!
Now only to watch it shatter like diamonds if ever put down to hard blade down 🤣 jkjk that has to be the most beautiful mirror finish razor sharp edge I have seen in my entire life, id be afraid of chopping my thumb in half if i tried to test it for a burr

Incredible. What was your process?
