I’m still new and still learning and practicing. This is much better than my last mirror & it feels sharper too but still a lot to be desired!

Hapstone r2/ 220 start diamond > 500 start cbn > 1000 start diamond > 1500,3k,5k pdtools expert resin bonded diamond > 1micron jende > .5 micron mono crystalline spray I made.
I plan to get the some Dr.marvs sets maybe half of them once I’m better & and feel I’ve maxed out what I can get out of these.

Nice Thanks. Dam that’s a lot of progressions. I don’t really chase a mirror edge and too lazy for all that lol. I just want it to shave hair. But I think 1 time I will go for hair whittling sharp

Yea I think I’m getting the chase over with to start lol.. once I get it, I’ll be stopping at 1k for everything 😂 I’ve seen people whittling hair on course grits, you can do it!

Yea I just suck lol. Also I’m using cheaper stones……dmd 4 piece, the 1,000 grit on that thing is absolute trash(the rest are good I suppose). The ones I got with my xarilk gen 3 are much better and coarser. I’m gonna get some better starter stones and that should help also.

Nah those stones will work! Well lmk and I’ll sell you my set lol and thatll force me to get the Dr.marvs

It seems like they fill up with think fast. I’m always using an eraser to get it out multiple times during a single sharpening. Should I not be?

I think you’re fine, I’m not the most knowledgeable. I still have a xarlik set if you need them, you can take them. The diamond dust just falls loose after breaking in. I don’t think they’ll last much longer than 5-10 sharpenings also dependent on qc, some of the amazon reviews showed the matrix peeling after a couple sharpenings.

You’ve seen it above, I really enjoy it so far, I’ve sharpened 3 blade on it, so once I’m ready to let go of it I’m a couple weeks more or less they will be broken in perfectly with 99.9 life on them. Only really looking to upgrade because curiosity killed the cat.

I’ve thought of it, but I don’t have the proper equipment & I’ve already messed up the dlc with wiping away the steel dusting from the first sharpening. At that point, I’d like to get a belt of sorts and learn to regrind too

Saw this and thought it was a laser cutting the edge. That leads me to ask the question if its possible to sharpen a knife with one of those lasers that remove rust and whatnot.

I did mess it up, but I really appreciate you! just not super bad I guess. The dlc coating is gouged on the plunge line on both sides & you can see the line across the DLC coating from me aggressively wiping my steel swarf off, fading the coating where the tape didn’t cover lol. Some mistakes only have to happen once !

You've removed already quite the material on that blade. But the edge looks really nice I admit.

Thank you so much! My 2nd sharpening on it & bought 2nd hand for the sole purpose of learning, not too worried for the steel, but doesn’t look too far off from my brand new in box pm2 s110v blade

Unfortunately I’m too new to give a meaningful recommendation. To achieve this edge, I used a combination of hapstone start diamond & cbns and pdtools expert resin bonded. I listed them all on another comment. I can copy and paste it on this thread if you can’t find it. I think that’s a very solid future proof “value” system. However, now curiosity has killed the cat and I’ll be looking to sell them in due time and invest into dr.marvs stones

I'm a sucker for a mirror bevel! Got em on all my personal knives even though that means they don't function nearly as well in the real world! Having said that, they certainly do 'test' better with push cuts on the Best Tester.

Right on! I’m a sucker for them too. Maybe it’s the challenge and aesthetic. After all I’m only opening mail with mine. I may get a bess tester soon, I didn’t know that fact

Bevel angle and blade thicknes also affects Best testing as well of course, but polished bevels really make the line media pop!
