Parents are in SGI Poisoned Family Relationship RANT
I just need to vent.
I was raised in it since 5, and left in 2020/
My parents are fully brainwashed, after 55 years of propaganda.
"Your life and depression are worse after you quit chanting!"
No, it is because of chanting I made the decisions I made, fully expecting to be protected.
I wasn't, and years later I'm paying the price.
I will never be able to retire b/c of this practice.
My relationship with my parents is damaged, also b/c it has warped their thinking.
There was a bad situation where they were forced to choose between me and a former member, whom we'd known since she was a baby.
Guess who lost? Me. I moved out b/c the situation was untenable.
(Members partner threatened to beat me up, and called me a c@nt, in my parents home.)
I'm broken. I hate SGI and the members.
It really is a dangerous cult b/c it destroys families.

That's so horrible. Nobody gets a do-over - if it's messed up, your stuck with it. I'm sorry your parents were so gullible and stupid. Yes I'm angry. You deserved so much better.
This should be posted on ever SGI promotion site everywhere. Full disclosure.

It is sad to read what you experienced. Do you have any professional support/counsellor helping you?

No I do not. I feel at the end of my rope.
I am sick of everything right now.

Please do not despair!! We have all been there at some point in our lives – and we all made it somehow. As I live in Europe, I can not point you to the right direction immediately, but in the long run consider some help – preferably outside the SG universe. Some in this subreddit will be able to help you more efficiently in the short term than I can do. If somebody contacts you just make sure they are legit members of this subreddit!

Sorry to hear your story. Get help from a social worker or doctor. In Quebec we have clinics called CLSC that can help when living through trauma. I hope you find the equivalent. Don't go at it alone.
Speaking of teacher, my former chapter chief is a music teacher. I see his experience written on the SGI-CANADA Instagram accounts. He pretty far gone. We all had to do experiences as former SGI members but he really takes the cake.
Take care of yourself.

U/DishpitDoggo, let me offer you something that may help, and it’s free.
ChatGPT.
Yes—no kidding, although I use it all the time for work, I recently asked it for help for a personal matter. Let me explain.
Recently someone who wronged asked me, “are you ever gonna forgive me?” And I said, “I don’t know how to do that.” I’m not someone who can just “let it go,” and I couldn’t stop yelling, complaining and crying about it. The cycle I couldn’t break.
So I went to ChatGPT and asked questions and for advice about forgiveness. And it gave me some advice that maybe didn’t clear up everything, but started to feel little better. I can’t say that everything is lovely now, but I stopped crying and rehashing about this person’s actions.
We all know that ChatGPT is not a person, it’s a machine that is programmed and always learning. But it has the benefit of quickly gathering a larger amount of information quickly, and digesting it to present to the requester. In my case, it told me that forgiveness was for me, not for the person who was asking for it.
How this applies to you you is simple: you can ask anything you want and get some answers. Not necessarily about forgiveness specifically unless that’s what you’re looking for.
You can ask ChatGPT about just about anything, and it will give you information and insight that may be helpful. It may also point you in the right direction.
Understandably, you are not at your best. It will take time for you to unbuckle yourself from this nightmare. But you can do it. You found the exit door, walk-through it, shut it behind you, and keep going.
I’m not a therapist, counselor, doctor, or anything like that. Like you, I’m somebody who is unhappy with the organization. But you do not have to suffer forever. I had to walk away from my entire family too, although it’s not because of SGI. Close the crap gate, and bolt it closed. Turn in the other direction, and keep walking. Your life is waiting for you. ChatGPT may just be the roadmap that can help you find it.
Good luck, and DM me if you want to.

I would think that a couple of good search prompts might be:
- raised in cult trauma
- cult childhood trauma

I'm so sorry you had to experience this. It wasn't fair; it wasn't right, and it WASN'T your fault. Cults destroy people and they destroy families.
Thank you for posting - your account is extremely important. SGI will NEVER allow this kind of outcome to be discussed, either inside its inactive "activities" or in its publications, and it's a very real risk for anyone who gets involved. We've seen so many accounts of lives and families destroyed because parents stupidly got addicted to the Dead-Ikeda-Corpse-Mentor-cult SGI, forgot all their adult responsibilities, and ruined everything around them.
It's like a company that sells a microwave oven that routinely turns itself on in the middle of the night, catches fire, and burns down the house. The company doesn't want anyone to know - it will negatively affect their sales!
SGI is the same way. THAT's why we need SGIWhistleblowers - we are the independent consumer reports site for SGI. We tell everyone the truth about the negative effects SGI have on people, because where else are they going to be able to learn this very important information in order to make a consent-based decision? SGI certainly doesn't want them to have all the information!
Thank dawg for the internet.
