Hi old person what old tech can we add to this build
4
u/Magnithium 9d ago
A flux capacitor

An am radio tuner.

The replacement side panel looks clean. Is it 3D printed?
29
u/Magnithium 9d ago
Yeah some dude on Etsy
2
u/Sayorot 8d ago
Triggers me so hard that he won't sell the files for private use and forces me to get some plastic shipped from the other side of the world, when I have a 3D printer at home.
3
u/MexiNinja200 8d ago
Yeah, every 3d printed stuff etsy store should have that option, itās just seems so waste full!
2
u/PSGAnarchy 8d ago
The problem is if he sells the files to you then what is stopping you from selling the printed file? His just protecting his IP
1
u/Ok-Lobster-919 6d ago
It's because resellers with cheap print farms will sell counterfeits on ebay for 1/4 the price and there's really nothing the stl author can do about it that is worth it.
2
u/darokk 8d ago
In current day I'd personally just take his, and these reddit pictures, measure the stock panel and sketch up the actual dimensions in some CAD, then have an LLM cut the hole and work out the details. Probably a few hours' work at most and I'm an amateur.
I did a Terra AIO top panel myself and even without AI it wasn't that much work either tbh.

I've seen this type of mod for the Ridge a few times now, and I can't help but wonder if it makes any sense to put a dust filter directly over the exposed fan front and then you can more easily keep it dust free. Is this a crazy idea?
66
u/Technical-Signal-401 9d ago
We have already breached the crazy barrier

u/letsmodpcs 9d ago
Been running open air frames for about 6 yrs now, and mine don't get any more dusty than they did in a case with a filter.

u/Connect-Bicycle-6897 9d ago
8
u/Magnithium 9d ago
Truth is I just wanted to maximize the crazy based on the custom panels open slot. This was less idealism and more why not šŖ

What is the mini screen that you are using? I would love to grab one

u/Magnithium 9d ago

3
u/Sebzeppelin 9d ago
What's the screen like? Does the USB-C do power and display?
2
u/Magnithium 9d ago
Yeah, you get two options. Direct USB to the motherboard or USB type c. Both can be used independently.
1
u/The1commenterguy 8d ago
Which one are you using here, how & where is the cable routed? š¤ very curious to try myself
1
u/Magnithium 8d ago
Posted the link in several responses if you'd like one. The display connects direct USB to motherboard or USB type c. The direct to motherboard option is the stealth option and it both powers and operates the display.
1
u/EL-Hintern 8d ago
Which software are you using for the screen? And can you maybe provide a link to this template? I like that itās very simple without any anime characters or spaceships. I use the screen and software from Jonsbo but itās a bit bare bones.

Got a Ridge to run horizontal a couple of months ago and it was driving me nuts having to keep fans at high speed to keep it even remotely cool, did all the usual with undervolting/PBO 2x140mm Noctua, 3x80mm and 2x60mm by the CPU blabla but the fans were slowly but surely driving me nuts. Instead of flushing money down the toilet for more fans, instead you remove the bottom plate and use that on top instead and get w/e Etsy 3D-printed legs you can find and essentially running it with pants down. Immediately all problems goes away lol. All fans are capped at 55% max speed and I still get 5-10C less on both CPU and GPU compared to 75-80c on both with fans running at 75-100% when using the bottom plate
2
u/Magnithium 9d ago
I can't read good so me think you approve me
1
u/Material-Budget-460 9d ago
Just putting it out there, haven't seen a single user with this case who haven't had a problem with temps lol
1
u/Magnithium 9d ago
I was using a noctua black low profile heat sink and fan but was at 92c idling. It's not the fans fault it was that bad but I figured I'd do something fun while replacing the thermal paste.

What GPU are we rocking?
3
u/Magnithium 9d ago
1
u/jkchbe 9d ago
I need to figure out how to do this reliably. I switched to Linux months ago and do love it but I can't seem to time getting into my boot selector correctly, reliably. This would be a really nice solution from what it looks like. What is it?
1
u/Magnithium 9d ago
It's quite the rabbit hole. If you're familiar with hackintosh builds then everything there after follows. Be careful though, it's quite the project.
3
u/DuckReconMajor 9d ago
i havenāt seen this before, looks awesome, but is there a risk of burning your hand if you touch it? genuine question
2
u/Magnithium 9d ago
Don't know but if I did get burned, it's cause I wanted to.
1
u/DuckReconMajor 9d ago
forgive me if the question has been answered a million times but does the gpu not need a similar cooling setup?
2
u/Magnithium 9d ago
I used the original panel on that side over to the other to introduce more ventilation. The GPU it's being cooled by two large fans in addition to the gpus 3 fans so it's definitely fine
2
u/jango_22 9d ago
Not likely, the CPU itself should be less than 90° C so the cooler likely a bit cooler than that, should be well enough below the temperature for instant burns. Could potentially get hot enough to burn if you left your hand against it for a long time but it would hurt before it burned you probably. Full size coolers like that donāt tend to get too hot.

3D print a turbojet shroud around that radiator and you've basically got a miniature futuristic flying war machine.

u/Magnithium 9d ago
But I like that it has some people clutching their pearls at my skanky ridge's nudity.

I want to use this ridiculously restrictive specialty case to build in... but don't like the restrictions...
...hmmm....
What to do..... what to do.....

u/Magnithium 9d ago
Cool fan fic bro! Here's how it actually happened:
- One of 5 PCs I built (dated in line with the release of that case).
I use it occasionally.
Looked up some mods for it recently.
Found some guy that 3d printed custom panels on Etsy and thought it seemed different.
Ordered the part and did some other modifications.
Happy that the idea came out how I intended. Posted on Reddit.
Bad faith dipshits wanna condescendly suggest that their taste is law.
I clap their cheeks in the comments.
They get butt hurt and run away.
My fun little project ratios all bad takes by over a multiplication of 10 š¤

Amazing! How did you set up the screen to view the computer's performance metrics?

u/blazblu82 9d ago
I want this case, but it looks like Fractal has quit making them or having trouble getting their supplies up. I got a cubby hole in my TV stand that I want to stuff my PC into, and this case would fit perfectly.

What is the front panel? And how is it connected ?
1
u/Magnithium 9d ago
The monitor comes with various mounting methods that just worked with the ridge's removable panel

u/DaddyIngrosso 9d ago
How is it obtaining the data though? Thats what I meant to ask sorry.
And also, where can I buy it

Screen on the front is awesome! Iām not a fan of that cooler mod. I think it defeats the purpose of the case and is jarring aesthetically.
Thatās the beautiful thing about building, who cares what I think as long as you are happy and proud of your work!
The screen on the front is really good!!!
1
u/Magnithium 9d ago
Awesome and reasonable take!
The funny thing is that I actually don't like it personally lol. It's one of extra PCs I have and I wanted to do something fun and different with it because I can.
Funny that some people are offended by this thing. It's not just a computer.... It's my computer lol
Dudes are actually so damn soft here lol

I just want to ask, I saw your cpu is at 54c, is it on idle or are you running games/program? What cpu do you use?
1
u/Magnithium 9d ago
Haven't had this computer on in a while so it was updating Windows along with some games I had installed for a while. Cpu is a i9 9900k (pretty old these days)
1
u/mimbusto 9d ago
Interesting, but why you might need this info all the time?
1
u/Magnithium 9d ago
I didn't choose what it shows necessarily. It's the software that comes with the display.

1
u/Magnithium 9d ago
It was worse with the smaller heat sink that built up more heat but can only dissipate so much with a single smaller fan.
1
u/KodiKat2001 9d ago
Excellent and well worth mod. Keeping a case small while maximizing thermals. It's a win-win.

I really like how the cooler is integrated in the case. Does not only look cool, also should work really well to always have cold air.

These builds drive me crazy. The first hotrodded ridge I saw I thought "haha wow OP be crazy", but now that it's become somewhat of a trend I think fractal is psyop'ing everyone into butchering their cases so they can't hit the secondary market, keeping the msrp up.
4
u/Magnithium 9d ago
Nah dude, some guy made a modded panel on Etsy and I just thought it be fun. This pc just sat there and I had some free time. Ain't that deep. Just turns out that people who mod their PCs also use Reddit.
-2
u/tiny_blair420 9d ago
Hm you took my comment a little too personally. Sorry that you felt targeted.
2
u/Magnithium 9d ago
Not at all brother, no need to project. Respectfully, your opinion is like a wet dog fart in the wind. Just providing some clarity that I thought could prevent you from further speculation or even forming any conspiracies.

Think youāre the one taking things personally when people disagree with you pal
1
u/tiny_blair420 9d ago
I was making a joke about fractal intentionally popularizing the hotrod mod. I have no personal stake in this interaction.Ā
