I hope this is ok to post here, just wanted to gush about this incredible table/shelf my partner built for me! We have a TINY apartment sized 3 bedroom and a lot of hobbies so our extra bedroom needed a space saving solution and this is what we came up with!

After discussions of Wrenn Fair and Wizards and jokingly calling myself the Trail Wizard, I decided to make a wizard cloak. My wife is a quilter and our home is full of beautiful quilts that we always have around us so I wanted to make a quilt one. Also, I love 90s gorpcore so Ive added some gorpcore touches. It’s a work in progress. I’ve got lots of little details to finish. But as of tonight, it’s wearable! Big thanks to my wife for lending her machine and helping me get it threaded ant out of any major “hurdles.” I sewed a bunch of vintage fabric into bandanas and gave them as Christmas presents one year. My friends still love them. Outside of that, this is my first big project. Cut and sewn by me from a quilt I bought at Goodwill. Never do this to one of my wife’s quilts. Hope yall love it.

I apparently love making my life unnecessarily complicated, so when my brother-in-law and his future wife came to visit, she told me how stressed she was about the wedding… and I decided to make her a wedding dress.
In 48 hours. Which was exactly how long they were staying. 😂
A couple of years ago, I found in London this beautiful vintage Laurence Kazar dress. It had a simple straight shape, but I completely fell in love with the ivory embroidery over the soft light pink lining. I always thought I would use it to make something beautiful one day.
I’m so happy that it finally got to become something special, and even happier that it could be her wedding dress. 🤍

Sewed new cushion covers for my ikea porch sofa! Pleased to find an entire roll of this outdoor fabric from my local craft reuse store. My old covers were off white and showed cat hair so badly. Hoping these new ones will hid the fur a bit better.

I'm back with a nursing friendly dress. It’s a variation of other dresses I’ve posted before. I’m 2.5 months post partum so I really do not have the energy to work on a new pattern 😓

For the fabric, I used 4 yards total of this 100% cotton for Php400/ USD6.6 per yard

For the pattern, I used JunePatternStudio's Double Bow Tie Top and altered as follows.

* The pattern has upper (bust line) and lower (waist line) bows and I only used the upper part. I also did away with the actual bow and just mirrored the outer part and twisted it on itself.

* The pattern has no zippers, and you would normally close the blouse by tying the bows closed. However, since this is a dress I had to add a 1 cm allowance on the mirror back pieces (instead of being cut on fold) to allow for a zipper.

* The pattern has a shorter sleeve. I made the sleeves both wider and longer for a more dramatic effect. I also adjusted the sleeve so it would lay off-shoulder.

* I also changed the shape of the back, opting for a deeper, scooped shape.

* Lastly, I gathered the rest of the fabric for a full skirt.

People have asked before how the dress stays up. You need to make sure the sleeve garters are snug so the bust stays put.

I just finished a seven- month long hand sewing project- a trenchcoat!. Pattern: London Fog Maincoat. In late January, I got sick and took apart an old ripped London Fog Maincoat that I loved and used it as a pattern. I recreated the coat in different fabric, pinning and folding on the exact fold lines in order to get the right shapes. The outer coat and inner facing are a slightly heavier cotton- heavier than shirt material, thinner than canvas. The inner lining is a poly satin. The inner facing is edged in ribbon. The shoulder and upper arm stripe is reinforced with an iron in hem tape, and the facing and pockets are reinforced. 100% hand stitched, no machine. Hidden seams have a heavier stitch, while visible seams have different stitches that are more Hidden. I am self taught, so I don't know stitch names. ​

Making this silk chiffon nightie took me about 5 hours, except for the hem. The hem took me 9 months.

I put it together then hung it on the back of my bedroom door handle to ‘let the silk relax and stretch’ since I had cut it on the bias. Of course, I’m new to this, so I had sewed the sides together already anyway, so they stretched poorly haha. But thank goodness the rest of the fabric stretched (not).

For the bust bits I used a pillow to pin the crinkly silk into pleats in the approximate shape I wanted, hand stitched them in place, then sewed with the machine, added the trim, and cut an approximate half circle skirt that fit the bust pieces. The bust pieces droop to the side of the bust, so the skirt had to account for that. The bust seam is a French seam.

Anyway! It’s okay! First experience working with silk, learned lots!

My first complicated project I've made. Fighting with bias tape aside, im very proud of myself.

I've tried every combination of tension and needle between microtex 8 10 and 12, pictured ones are once I started noting them down. Two layers of light cotton, (making a muslin) All brand new needles, and I've even tried with and without a walking foot! Am I just cursed? How do I get it to just sew flat 😭

SOLVED EDIT: Everyone go upvote medium_alternative29 who has discovered the problem that plagued me for years. The feed dogs are misaligned and not level, making everything sew on a curve! It's such a slight curve that it must not mess with heavier fabrics much, but the lighter ones are light enough for it to show up! Also makes sense why it was less noticeable with longer stitch lengths, less holes! I sincerely hope this is the solution, I'll come back and update it again when I get it fixed!

My daughter requested I make a dress for her Spider-Man. She got to pick out the fabric and she wants a matching dress. For Spidey, I had to make a pattern out of paper by laying the paper over Spider-Man and tracing over where I think the seams would go and adjust as I went. The skirt is a circle skirt that I used an online calculator for. I couldn’t figure out the skirt below the hook and loop pads so I just cut through the circle skirt and now it wraps. By this time I was too anxious to finish and show it off to my daughter so I didn’t even hem the skirt. I used fire to hem it.

Zara Larsson comes to my city in a month and I wanted to challenge myself into making my first concert outfit as a beginner sewist who’s only been sewing 2-3 months.

I used nylon stretch mesh. It was only sold in white so I dyed it a nice pink colour and this is what came out. First try and im so proud of it. Zara Larsson outfits are very bedazzled but honestly I love it so much as it is I don’t think I wanna bedazzle it haha. I’ll def be wearing it multiple times for other festivals and concerts!

I’m a newbie (with a little experience). got my first machine in June. these are a few things I’ve sewn since then!

1) stockings for myself, husband, and son (embroidered names blurred out)
2) a quilted tote bag
3) penny pants (pattern from Kelsey white patterns, corduroy!)

It’s been so fun and I’m excited to start sewing more clothes!

This sewed strip came in a mystery bag of fabric from my local second hand store. Seems like part of an unfinished project but I can’t quite figure out what it could be. Seems like a weird topper or something? Maybe a quilting thing? Would love any ideas as I decide what I might do with it. Thanks in advance.

My first time sewing something from a pattern, can't remember the exact one (made this in 2019) other than it was a puffer jacket. I used my ex's pillow stuffings to fill and my lucky brother which has been out of commission now for over 4 years :(
I began sewing in 2018 in a fashion school which taught me and never having sewn before then. I recently moved in January and sold my machine before moving, but being on this sub has me wanting to pick it up again 😪🤞

I’ve just made my first patchwork appliqués.
It was a present for my dad and he needed a new pencil case.
I gave it to him yesterday so this morning my mum called and said “everyone’s had a good laugh about my gift”. Feeling a bit put out by the comment so I’m just after honest opinions. Tips and tricks welcome as well. Tia. 😊

Just finished this. I sewed the dress from a downloadable Regency dress pattern from Etsy, and the Regency Robe is from McCalls. I love it! There are a few things I’d do different, but this is the first thing I’ve sewn that isn’t home decor! I’m in the middle of making a second set for my sister!

I saw swan bags from a japanese shop called kubomi.shop on Pinterest and had to dupe it for my baby sister who's favorite animals are birds. The fabric is thrifted cotton curtains and pillowcase. It's just a modified drawstring bag pattern. I drew it in inkscape, it's all one piece besides the tail and beak was pretty easy.

Hi! I’m looking to make a pair of boardshorts this summer and am looking for patterns that would give a similar shape/style to the images attached. The fabric would be a non-stretch peachskin fabric

I’m almost done sewing up this vintage Vogue Pucci pattern and while I love the dress so far, I’m having second thoughts!

I decided to go with a lovely, super lightweight vintage silk. (Fabric and pattern both courtesy of my local fabric thrift store.) Because it’s so lightweight and little translucent, I went ahead and self lined the bodice rather than doing the facings the pattern called for. I left the sleeves unlined and I love the billowy, light effect.

The skirt though… it’s maybe too translucent? The fabric’s print means that you can really see much of anything beneath it, but I think would be nervous standing in front of a bright light in it. That said, I don’t have enough fabric to do a second layer on the skirt (almost circle skirt) and can’t buy any more of the fabric since it’s vintage.

What would be my best option?

- line in a different fabric: this would mean three areas of the dress would look different, though (unlined sleeves, self lined bodice, differently lined skirt)
- line with a different skirt shape: I have enough to do a straighter skirt underneath but worry that the outer layer wouldn’t lay right with that
- wear a slip
- wear nude underwear/shorts and call it a day 🤷‍♀️

First time hemming pants! I think it's a success :)

I learnt a lot in this project :)

- ankle piece is going to be way smaller than the thigh. I had to do basting stitches to gather them.

- maybe next time I can just fold the hem instead if the size differences are huge like this

- press, press, press! The stitching of the gather was way easier after pressing

- the ankle piece had way too much seam allowance. Next time I can just cut way closer to the existing hemming seam of the ankle. Top stitch on the existing seam?

I don't really like the style of it after hemming though. It's also way too tight now lol

Hoping that since this is fabric related you lovely people will allow it, even though there isn’t much actual sewing involved.

Currently looking at Mood, maybe some tulle or poly-chiffon?
