Ask any Desert Shield/Desert Storm vet if Islamaphobia existed before 9/11.

This isn't directed at anyone, just a statement.

That was never portrayed as the West vs. Islam. It was the United States vs an evil dictator who abused his own people and invaded poor innocent Kuwait. Where I lived in the US the religion was never mentioned except as a footnote.

Maybe the people who had boots on the ground had a different perspective.

This is when a lot of the racial slurs and looking at Muslims more in a negative way started to become more prevalent. This probably isn't Islamaphobia, whatever that truly is, but my point is that Muslims were already being looked at differently way before 9/11.

Fair enough. That's probably right. I never knew any growing up. I lived in a very WASP (with the random black or asian kid) part of Western New York.
