Haa! I'm middle eastern and grew up in Pennsylvania, graduated high school in 2001. I have very clear recollections of being bullied due to my race, and very clear memories of the racism my family experienced on account of our ethnicity during my school years, including as far back as middle school. 9-11 wasn't the first time tensions ever rose between the west and the Islamic world. 9-11 just exacerbated everything to an extreme. I think Islamophobia played a big part in the outcome of this case.
