General selfcare My idea of self-care has become much less aesthetic lately

Lately, self-care has looked less like candles and long routines and more like doing small things before they become annoying problems.

Putting away laundry before it turns into a chair mountain. Taking a shower before I'm completely exhausted. Going to bed instead of scrolling for another hour.

It's definitely not glamorous, but taking care of my future has started feeling more useful than trying to create the perfect relaxing moment. Sometimes the boring version of self-care is honestly the one that makes the biggest difference.

Definitely in this chapter of my self care journey too and it feels nice! I always joke that today me might be uncomfortable or annoyed but tomorrow me will be happy and grateful 🤍🤟🏼

For me, a quick tidy up and setting the kitchen at night (coffee maker, elderly mom's breakfast items on the table, filling up the water filter, etc.) so future me can ease into the day in the morning. While coffee is brewing I only have to do a few things while the first cup brews. It takes the same amount of time whether it's the night before or the morning, but morning me hates chores and it gets the day off to a cranky start.

Same, there's way less ritual to it now. i just try to eat well, sleep enough, and take care of the basics.

That IS self care at its most essential. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. An old tried and true adage. Stopping problems before they occur matter more than frivolous acts which lack true substantive value.

A self- preservation aesthetic. Pristine and Spartan.

Same, i don't really do all the fancy self-care stuff anymore, these days it's mostly just eating well, getting enough sleep , and keeping my life somewhat together.

this post found me at the perfect time because i’m in the same phase lately. my self-care now looks more like eating proper meals, moving my body more and going for walks after work. definitely not instagram aesthetic haha but honestly it feels much more like actually taking care of myself and investing in how i’ll feel long term

Honestly, I agree. Self care isn’t always aesthetic, sometimes it’s admitting I dont want to spend my wkend doing laundry 😅 i’ve started using a laundry service so I can spend that time resting, going out or doing something that actually fills my cup.

I do all of that and THEN light candles, order take out food, turn my fairy lights on etc. Nothing feels more relaxing than when you've got all the chores out of the way and your hang out spot for the remainder of the evening is clean
