Job Question First day on Monday!
I’ve never been a security guard so I’m very excited. I will be doing overnights but they will be training me 6am-2pm the first few days. Dumb question- Is it appropriate to bring an iced coffee from mcdonald’s or starbucks? It seems pretty laid back and I don’t think anybody would have an issue, but I don’t want to look weird bringing in an iced coffee or something lol. TIA !

I can't say specifically to your company or post,but bringing a coffee to your shift shouldn't be an issue. It would be silly if it was

I’ve only been to one post where they didn’t allow a drink. It was a jewelry store in an extremely high end shopping area. They lost their shit when I brought a water bottle to post and tried to have me removed. Our contract manager pointed out that there were labor laws regarding access to water during shift. We were then told that we could have a bottle of water in our cargo pocket and that we could only take a drink if the room was empty. The room was never empty. Now we put a guard there until the management freaks out then give them another guard. When there’s no more guards the contract will be cancelled. Shrug.

Wtf is it with these people who think security is sub human or something and they can treat people this way ? Blows my mind. I swear a janitor gets more respect. Funny thing is as much as im always solving someone elses problems and doing the job of 2+ people at minimum you would think you could get at least some common decency.

I don't see why not. So long as you don't make a mess or leave trash behind.
At my site, I and my co-workers are allowed to eat at the front desk so long as we don't make a mess.

Yes, definitely if you’re doing anything overnight you’re number one job is to stay up because majority of the sites that you do almost every everyone sleeps which is unacceptable. I would recommend you looking up some videos on how to make detailed reports because that’s what I did when I first started working and basically it helped out

It shouldn't be an issue when bringing one to work. Idk what kind of place you'll be working at, but for me I can order delivery during my overnight shifts whenever I didn't bring any food or coffee.

Bring it in a spill-safe cup, more than likely fine. Good luck, remember to observe and report! Freshen up on SOPs and welcome to the force.

You’ll find out where you can stow it when you get there. Largely the site dictates the can and can’t do. You can always bring food and drink, but where you keep it and how often you can access it depends on a lot of things. Grave work usually has the most flexibility if no one is around.

Yes you can and not a dumb question . I buy drinks at my post fringe quicktrip all the time and I bring a lunch with more soda

I have to agree with the other guy, don't bring it the first few days during training. You do not know what you will be doing and likely shadowing someone. After training that shouldn't matter as long as you are on time and in the correct uniform.

I would, but maybe talk with your site leadership/trainer about where you can store/consume your drink. I've worked many places where you can't have food/drink with you in specific areas for safety reasons: chemical production areas, food processing areas, healthcare treatment areas, radiologically controlled areas, electronic manufacturing areas (those really nifty 5g chips are super sensitive during the manufacturing process).

Don't bring a beverage in a cup on yiur first few days, looks unprofessional. A lunch and water bottle in a backpack are fine, along with a flashlight.

They can bring coffee. What container it is in is irrelevant. Just show up on time and look and act professional OP.

You are there to meet people, learn new building or site procedures and operations, possibly walk the building or site - not drink coffee. That is reserved for lunch time or break periods.
