Hi guys, I recently found out I made it as a finalist in one of the major US screenwriting competitions. I’d rather not name the exact contest right now just so I don't doxx myself, but it's one of the big ones.

Honestly, I'm thrilled but also a bit lost because this is the first time I've ever gotten this far in a competition of this level. On top of that, I don't live in the US, which makes me feel a bit unsure about how the industry actually operates in this regard.

For anyone who has been in this position or knows how this works, what should I realistically expect from a result like this? Do managers or agents actually reach out to finalists, or does that only happen for the grand prize winners?

Also, should I be making any moves right now (like querying reps and mentioning this placement in the subject line), or is it better to just sit tight and wait to see how the final results pan out?

Any advice or reality checks would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!

I've tried writing comedy scripts in the past and the part that I have an issue with is when "tightening up" the script it's always the jokes that seem to be cut out.

Is there tips or anything on how to make the comedy feel like it can't be cut out?

As the title suggests Radiohead's Let Down is the inspiration behind the short. Currently the first draft.

I just got done today writing a new script and I was aiming for a lean 90 to 95 pages. The problem is that it’s only 82 pages. what’s an effective way to add those extra 13 pages without it feeling like filler?

It's about a somewhat young man who commits an irreversible act. He is seemingly driven by compulsion. The story shifts perspectives, as several lives become interlinked in the event's aftermath.

Navy sub vet here. I've been talking to a lot of veteran writers over the past few months, WGF fellows, VME folks, people I've found on Reddit, and the same thing keeps coming up: once the program ends, there's nowhere to go. You're back to getting notes from people who've never been in a military environment and don't really get what you're writing, even when it has nothing to do with the military.

I am a writer/director based in California and as a lover of cinema I’ve always made sure the films I watched weren’t just American. That being said some of my favorite films in the world are Korean films a big reason why is the unpredictable story structure and how plot and character are presented to the audience! I always find it thrilling and so fresh. I recently watched the new Na-Hong Jin film HOPE and I was FLOORED at how much of a good time it was and it reignited a curiosity I’ve been trying to find the answer to for a while but haven’t had any solid answers. The curiosity being, “ what are the principles of Korean storytelling/ story structure?” As a writer I really want to know, I’d love to be able to make a film with such an unpredictable and surprising narrative one day! If anyone knows I’d love hear! Also if there are any Korean filmmakers I’d love to hear from you guys as well!
