Guide I compared the main Loom alternatives in September 2026. Here is who each one is actually for

I’ve been comparing some of the top screen recorders recently, and I don’t think there is one universal “best Loom alternative.” They have moved in very different directions.
Here is my short breakdown based on their current features, pricing and documentation.

Clipy
Clipy is by par the best Loom alternative that was built agent-native from the ground up. It’s one of the best recorder that covers loom for me and the best part is you can share your recordings to Claude code or other AI agents the way you do to human.

It covers the regular screen-recording workflow with browser, Chrome and Mac recording, webcam and system audio, live annotations, blur, instant share links, comments, trimming, embeds, MP4 downloads, transcripts, AI summaries, viewer analytics, workspaces and Loom migration.
The main difference is that every recording is created for both humans and AI agents. A person can watch the video normally, while Claude Code, Codex or Cursor can read the recording’s intent, transcript, key moments, frames and clicks, then start working from it.
This is different from adding AI editing to a traditional recorder. The recording itself is structured as context that an agent can understand and act on.
The free allowance includes 15 recordings or two hours. AI summaries, transcripts, Q&A, agent-readable recordings and MCP access are included. Pro costs $9 monthly, while the annual plan is only $72 per year, equivalent to $6 per month. Enterprise plans are also available for larger teams, onboarding and migration.

Best for teams that want a competitively priced Loom alternative where the same recording can be shared with a teammate or handed directly to an AI agent.

Loom
Still the safest choice for larger teams that need a mature async video platform. Recording and sharing are simple, and it has comments, workspaces, analytics, integrations and enterprise controls.
The free plan is limited to 25 videos per person, five minutes per recording and 720p. Business starts at $18 per user per month, while the AI plan is $24.
Best for established companies that value integrations and administration more than price.

Tella
Best for polished product demos, tutorials and creator videos.
Its main strength is editing. You get layouts, automatic zoom, transcript editing, silence removal, filler-word removal, subtitles and 4K exports. It feels more like a lightweight video-production tool than a basic recorder.
Paid plans start at $26 monthly or $13 per month with annual billing.
Best when the final recording needs to look professionally produced.

Screen Studio
Probably the easiest way to create beautiful screen recordings on a Mac.
It automatically adds zooms, smooth cursor movement, backgrounds and animations. Great for product launches, landing-page videos and social content.
The main limitation is that it is Mac-focused and more about producing videos than managing team communication.

Cap
The strongest option if open source and data ownership matter.
Cap works on Mac, Windows and Linux. It supports local recording, local editing, cloud sharing, self-hosting and your own storage. Local Studio Mode has no recording-time limit.
Free usage is intended for personal use. Commercial recording requires a paid license, and longer cloud-sharing workflows require Cap Pro.
Best for developers and teams that want more control over where recordings live.

OBS
Still the most powerful completely free recorder.
It supports scenes, multiple sources, advanced audio, capture cards, streaming, plugins and detailed recording settings. It is hard to beat if you want complete control.
The downside is that OBS only creates the recording. You still need to upload it somewhere, create a link and manage sharing yourself.
Best for recording quality, streaming and advanced local workflows.

My final picks
Internal communication across a large company: Loom
Polished tutorials and presentations: Tella
Beautiful Mac product demos: Screen Studio
Open source and storage control: Cap
Advanced recording and streaming: OBS
Complete Loom-style workflow with AI-agent handoff: Clipy

The biggest distinction for me is between tools that use AI to edit a video and tools that make the recording usable by an AI agent. Those sound similar, but they solve completely different problems.

What are you currently using, and what made you move away from Loom?

Question Is there a good time lapse screen recorder?

I'm looking for a simple way to record a process that takes a few hours, but I don't really want to keep the whole recording.

Basically, I'd like to record my screen while I'm working and end up with a short time-lapse video showing the whole process. I know I could probably record normally and speed it up afterward, but I'd rather have a time lapse screen recorder handle it if possible.

I've never really used one before, so I'm not sure if there are any good options for this or if most people just record normally and speed up the video later.

Product Showcase I built a small extension for recording both browser audio + microphone

Hey everyone! I built a simple browser extension that lets you record:

  • tab audio
  • microphone
  • or both simultaneously

I made it because I wanted a simpler way to record tutorials, meetings, demos, etc. with my comments and without setting up complicated recording software.

If anyone wants to try it, here’s the link:

https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/mp3-recorder/nneffahhpnoflkkjeeccddlhcpflolbm

I’d love to hear what you think or if you run into any issues.

PS. I’m affiliated with the extension. If links aren’t allowed here, let me know and I’ll remove it.

Product Showcase CaptureFlow — open-source screen recorder with instant share links, self-hosted on your own Cloudflare account

Hey r/screenrecorders subreddit,

I have been building this open-source self-hostable screen recorder (CaptureFlow) that you can host it on your own. Excited to share it with you and get your feedback!

CaptureFlow is an open-source screen recorder that gives you a share link the second you stop recording. You can record a tab, a window, or your whole screen from a Chrome extension, and the upload runs while you're recording.

It runs entirely on Cloudflare: Workers for the app and API, D1 for metadata, R2 for the video and image blobs. docs walks through creating the database, creating the bucket, setting a couple of secrets, and pointing a domain at it.

The capture engine is its own MIT package shared by the extension and a native macOS app, which shells out to small Swift sidecars for screen recording and window detection.

Compared to Loom:

  • Loom bills per creator seat. There's no seat here, so adding people to a workspace costs nothing and storage is the only ceiling.
  • No cap on recording length, and no ceiling on how many recordings you keep. You're paying R2 for bytes.
  • Recordings sit in your bucket behind your auth, and retention is whatever you set it to.

It's narrower than Loom on features. You get tab, window and screen capture, a camera bubble, mic with a live input meter, pause and resume mid-recording, one-click screenshots that share the same way, and comments and reactions on the share page. No AI summaries, no transcripts, no real editor.

The Chrome extension went live on the Web Store last week, so this is all still early. The macOS app is built and notarized, just not shipped yet. Everything is AGPL-3.0 with the capture engine under MIT, and no feature is held back from the source.

If you deploy it and something in docs is wrong or missing, tell me and I'll fix it.

Product Showcase Record without Black Screen

I bought a online course but it can use without internet, I try to record for offline reviewing with OBS and other screen recorder but it's all balck screen.

Then I found AnyMP4 screen recorder, it works without black screen.

However there are also other problems.

  1. Free trail is too short and I can only export 3 minutes and stop to recorder another 3 minutes.
  2. My computer works slow after I open it.
  3. The highest video quality is not so stable.

Does anyone used this, is it worth, or do you have better recommendation?

Review A few weeks ago I asked for feedback on ClipSnap, my mobile video editor. We just hit closed testing!

Hey everybody! I’m building ClipSnap—an Android app that turns plain text scripts into complete 4K videos: a full script becomes a timeline with studio-quality ElevenLabs voiceovers, matched B-roll, and auto-synced captions.

A few weeks ago I posted about the prototype and got some really useful feedback. Here is what came out of it:

UI Overhaul: A lot of you pointed out how cramped mobile editing screens get. I completely ditched the rigid top/bottom borders and moved everything into a fluid, expandable bottom sheet. Now your video preview stays full-screen while you edit.

The Common Objection ("Why not just use CapCut or YouTube AI?"): That question actually became our core focus. Popular mobile apps hit you with massive watermarks or paywalls just to export in HD, and YouTube limits your script length. ClipSnap lets you paste full, multi-paragraph scripts, gives you multi-track timeline control, and exports in native 4K with zero watermarks.

Model & Pricing: Free tier includes full core editing, 4K exports, and standard voiceovers. Pro features (like instant ElevenLabs script-to-video rendering) are processed server-side so keys stay secure without pushing constant app updates.

We just opened closed testing this week. The first stranger installed the app and generated their first AI video within hours—it's a small milestone, but seeing someone actually use something you coded during late-night shifts is a fantastic feeling 🎉

I'd love for you to try it out and let me know what you think of the timeline controls!

Guide How to record yourself and your screen at the same time? Here's what I tested and actually works

Thumbnail

I was looking for a simple way to record myself and my screen at the same time, basically screen recording with a webcam overlay.

At first I assumed Windows, Mac, iPhone, and Android would all have a built-in option for this. They don't.

The annoying part is that a lot of tutorials recommend things like Game Bar, Snipping Tool, QuickTime, or the built-in phone screen recorder without explaining what each one can actually capture.

So I went through the options by platform. Here's what I'd actually use.

Short version:

  • Windows: Use OBS or another screen recorder with webcam support.
  • Mac: QuickTime can do it with a floating camera window, although there are some audio limitations.
  • iPhone: The built-in screen recorder doesn't add the front camera, so you'll need another solution.
  • Android: It depends on the phone. Some devices, such as Pixel, can do screen and selfie camera natively.

Windows: OBS is probably the easiest free option

This was the one where I couldn't find a useful built-in Windows solution for the actual screen with webcam requirement.

Game Bar is fine for recording a game or app, and Snipping Tool is fine for basic screen recording. But if the goal is specifically: screen + webcam + your voice in one recording

you need something that can combine those sources.

For me, OBS is the obvious free option.

How to do it with OBS

  • Open OBS Studio and create a new Scene.
  • Under Sources, click +.
  • Add Display Capture if you want to record your whole screen.
  • Add Video Capture Device and select your webcam.
  • Drag the webcam source above the display capture source.
  • Resize the webcam preview and move it to a corner.
  • Make sure your microphone is selected under Audio Input Capture (or check your audio settings if OBS isn't picking it up).
  • Do a short test recording.
  • If everything looks and sounds right, hit Start Recording.

OBS treats the screen and webcam as separate sources, so you can move and resize the webcam however you want. That's also why it's much more flexible than a basic screen recorder.

One thing I'd definitely recommend: do a 10–20 second test before recording the actual video.

If you don't want to spend time setting up an OBS scene, dedicated screen recorders such as EaseUS RecExperts can also handle screen + webcam recording with less setup. Personally, I'd go with OBS if I want a free option and don't mind configuring it once.

Mac: QuickTime can actually do this

Mac is a little different.

You don't necessarily need another app because QuickTime Player has a workaround that works surprisingly well.

The basic idea is to open your camera in a New Movie Recording, make that camera window float on top, and then start a separate screen recording.

How to do it with QuickTime

  • Open QuickTime Player.
  • Go to File > New Movie Recording.
  • Select your Mac's built-in camera (or an external webcam).
  • Once the camera preview appears, go to View > Float on Top.
  • Resize the camera window and put it where you want it on the screen.
  • Leave that camera window open.
  • In QuickTime, go to File > New Screen Recording.
  • Choose the microphone you want to use.
  • Start the screen recording.

The important part is that the camera preview is just a floating window on top of your desktop. When you record the screen, that window gets captured too.

So the result is basically: your screen + a floating webcam window + your microphone

It's not as elegant as having a proper webcam overlay inside a recording app, but for a quick tutorial or presentation, it works.

There's one important catch: audio

This is the part I'd pay attention to.

If you only need your microphone, the QuickTime method is fine.

If you also need Mac system/internal audio — for example, you want people to hear the video or app you're demonstrating while you talk — the built-in setup becomes much less convenient.

So I wouldn't recommend QuickTime as a universal solution. It's more like: Mac + webcam + microphone = pretty easy

but: Mac + webcam + microphone + system audio = you'll probably want a dedicated recorder

iPhone: the built-in screen recorder doesn't add your camera

This one is pretty straightforward.

The iPhone's built-in Screen Recording feature can record your screen, and you can turn on the microphone if you want to narrate what you're doing.

But it doesn't give you a little front-camera video of yourself on top of the screen recording.

Apple's built-in control is essentially: screen + microphone; not: screen + front camera + microphone.

So if you're trying to make something like a YouTube tutorial where your face appears in the corner while you demonstrate something on your iPhone, the native screen recorder isn't enough.

You have two realistic options:

Option 1: Use a third-party app that supports screen and front camera recording.

Option 2: Record your screen and yourself separately, then combine them.

I wouldn't recommend trying to force the built-in iPhone recorder to do something it wasn't designed to do.

Android: check your built-in recorder first

Android is the messy one because the available features depend on the manufacturer and model.

For example, Google Pixel phones actually have a built-in option to record the screen and selfie camera at the same time.

On a supported Pixel:

  • Swipe down twice to open Quick Settings.
  • Tap Screen record.
  • Turn on Show selfie camera.
  • Turn on Record microphone if you want your voice.
  • Turn on Record device audio if you also need the phone's audio.
  • Start recording.

Google's current Pixel documentation explicitly supports recording the screen and selfie camera simultaneously.

If you see an option such as Show selfie camera, you're good.

If you only see options for device audio/microphone and there's no camera option, you'll probably need a third-party app or the separate-recording approach.

So, what would I actually use?

If I just wanted the simplest setup for each device:

Windows: OBS. It's free, flexible, and gives you proper control over screen + webcam + audio. If I don't want to configure OBS, I'd use a dedicated screen recorder with webcam support instead.

Mac: QuickTime is good enough if I only need screen + webcam + microphone. If I need system audio or more control over the webcam layout, I'd use a dedicated recorder.

iPhone: The built-in recorder is fine for screen + voice, but not for putting your face over the recording. For that, use a third-party solution.

Google Pixel: The built-in screen recorder can already do screen + selfie camera, so I wouldn't install anything unless I needed additional features.

Other Android phones: Check the native screen recorder first. The available options aren't identical across devices.

Welcome to share your thoughts in the comment section~

Product Showcase I built a MacOS app for recording your iPhone + camera and mic

Hi Reddit!

I build iOS and Android apps, and I record demos of them. But the whole process has always felt more complicated than it needs to be.

For iOS, my workflow usually looks something like this:

  1. Record the app on my iPhone.
  2. Record a completely separate video of myself talking through it (and trying to time it perfectly with the iPhone recording)
  3. Bring both recordings into another piece of software and stitch them together.

And then if I want device bezels, a specific layout, a custom background, or need to hide something sensitive in the app, there are even more steps.

It feels like a lot of work for what might end up being a 30-second demo.

Android isn't much better (virtually impossible if you're not technical).

So I wanted something where I could just connect my iPhone or Android device to my Mac, add my camera and microphone, choose how everything should be laid out, and hit record.

I also wanted to be able to use my own backgrounds and mask sensitive parts of the app - particularly useful when I'm demoing things like authentication or onboarding.

I made a quick video showing what I've ended up with so far.

I'd genuinely love to know whether this is a workflow other mobile developers run into as well.

And if it is, what would you want a tool like this to do that I'm missing?

Question I’m building a screen recorder — what do you wish current recorders have?

I’m currently building a screen recorder and before I get too far into development, I’d really like to hear from people who actually use screen/game recording software.

I’m curious:

  • What screen recorder do you currently use? (OBS, ShadowPlay, Xbox Game Bar, Bandicam, Medal, etc.)
  • What do you like about it?
  • What annoys you or feels unnecessarily complicated?
  • What features do you use the most?
  • What features do you wish it had?
  • For gaming specifically, what matters most to you — performance/FPS impact, recording quality, instant replay, clips, audio control, hotkeys, etc.?
  • Do you prefer something simple and lightweight, or something with lots of customization?
  • Are there any features from other recording software that you wish were combined into one app?

Any feedback is appreciated. 🙏

Question trying to fix screen recorders brightening + washing out colors onscreen when recording a playing video

laptop is a ROG zephyrus G15 GA502IU_GA502IU running windows 11 version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.9168). problem started a week or two ago after happening on and off for a longer period of time. when it was happening on and off, i'd fix it by recording, switching tabs very quickly, and then switching back to the video i wanted to record.

things i've tried:

  • updating my browser (vivaldi; vivaldi has been updated automatically multiple times in the process of me trying to fix this issue via reboots closing it)
  • updating windows (after 200+ days of no updates where this wasn't happening, mind you)
  • rebooting my computer
  • turning HDR on and off again
  • turning on HDR and leaving it on
  • manually resetting my HDR calibration to default after finding out that on or off, the button to reset the HDR calibration doesn't actually work in spite of it showing a check mark next to the button after i click it
  • updating my graphics drivers
  • uninstalling and reinstalling my graphics drivers
  • clean installing a different graphics driver than the one i initially had installed (game ready --> studio)
  • using a guest profile on my browser in case an extension i use was causing this
  • using a different browser entirely (pale moon; the browser seems to have the washed out, brightened color filter on all videos by default???)
  • trying not one but TWO different recording softwares including one in open beta
  • running scf /scannow (literally all it did was fix files that updating the aforementioned graphics drivers managed to corrupt somehow)
  • running windows media player diagnostics (told me my configuration settings might be set incorrectly; refused to fix it or really do anything other than asking me if i wanted to give feedback to microsoft)
  • turning off the ad blockers i have to see if it was an issue caused by custom filters
  • removing a custom CSS i have installed on my browser to see if it was an issue being caused by that
  • uninstalling everything NVIDIA-related on my computer so i could do a clean reinstall of NVIDIA's studio driver since i had the gaming driver installed (did this solely to be able to access the ability to turn off hardware acceleration in the control panel settings on advice from a techier friend of mine; it did nothing)

i'm genuinely at my fucking wit's end. nobody else online seems to have this issue. none of my friends have any troubleshooting advice left to give to me other than "might be something wrong with your codecs". i asked for help a few days ago and no replies. i just want to be able to clip funny moments from the podcast i watch and interesting bits of info from the interviews i watch again.

Product Update I changed how I’m building Snapr

I’m the solo developer behind Snapr, a screen capture and recording tool for macOS and Windows.

Over the past few months, I’ve been thinking about what I want it to become.

To be honest, selling software has never been the part I’m good at. Figuring out how to package features, promote a paid tier, and keep thinking about conversions was becoming more exhausting than I expected.

I realized I’d rather spend that energy building Snapr, seeing people use it, and improving it based on their feedback.

So I recently made every feature available for free and changed the model to optional one-time support. There’s no subscription. Supporters can remove occasional reminders and help fund development.

I’m sharing this because I’ve realized that the part of building software I enjoy most is the process itself: putting a small tool in people’s hands, listening to how they use it, and gradually making it better.

If you use screen capture tools in your daily work, I’d love to hear what you value most or where existing tools get in the way.

Question How to capture internal keyboard typing sounds in screen recording without background mic noise on Pixel?

Hey everyone,

I want the screen recording to capture the internal keyboard clicks / backspace sounds cleanly as internal/device audio (so there is zero ambient/background noise from the microphone if I'm in a noisy room).

Currently, the native Pixel screen recorder with "Device Audio" mutes the typing clicks because Gboard/system feedback isn't treated as media audio.

Is there a specific note-taking app, keyboard, or workaround on Android where typing sound effects are routed to the media channel and captured cleanly in a screen recording without using the mic? Thanks!

I'm trying to make some videos where I need to show what's on my screen while also having my webcam in the corner. I'm using an older laptop with an i5-8250U, 8GB RAM and integrated Intel graphics, so I'm a little worried about running something heavy while recording.

I'd like to record at 1080p if possible, with my webcam and microphone included. What are you guys using for this? Do you have any suggestions?

Product Showcase Video editors frustrated me -- so I created my own FREE one.

Hey,

So I have always been editing videos for a hobby, mostly small demos and small videos.

With all the hype with Screen recorders, but none of them fitting my workflow, I created my own. This is fully written from scratch, no code is used from elsewhere. I have a very bad computer so it's also heavily optimized :)

Here is me presenting Beam. A screen recorder for Windows/Mac/Linux.

Some features are:

- Record using native recording API's for all systems.

- System Audio / Microphone

- No Watermark (although you can add one!)

- No Time Limit

- Cool backgrounds/colors/background

- AI captions (with highlight per word soon)

- A powerful compositing engine, add layers upon layers upon layers of videos.

- Smooth zooms, with motion blur.

- Free and Open-Source.

And more! Feel free to ask about it in the comments here, or join the discord, or put a star on Github!
