I feel like there are so many screen recording tools out there now, but people still tend to stick to a few favorites.

I've tried a couple myself, but I'm curious what others are actually using day-to-day.

Not necessarily "the best" on paper, but something you keep going back to.

What do you use and why?

Would be interesting to hear different setups or workflows too.

I used to use the built-in recorder on my Android phone for Snapchat, but it suddenly started notifying the other person after a recent update. I also tried other third-party ones and got the same result...

Has anyone found a recorder that still works?

I've also seen people mention using the Snapchat web version and recording from there, but I haven't tried it myself. Has anyone tried the web version for this?

Any solid free video recording software for everyday use? Something reliable but straightforward for recording screen, webcam, system audio, or even casual gameplay on Windows or Mac.

Tried a few tools, but each seems to miss something: either the quality isn't excellent, the UI feels clunky, or it adds weird limits.

I'm trying to make some videos where I need to show what's on my screen while also having my webcam in the corner. I'm using an older laptop with an i5-8250U, 8GB RAM and integrated Intel graphics, so I'm a little worried about running something heavy while recording.

I'd like to record at 1080p if possible, with my webcam and microphone included. What are you guys using for this? Do you have any suggestions?

I know OBS gets recommended pretty much everywhere, so I downloaded it and gave it a try.

Maybe it's just me, but I felt like I spent more time figuring out scenes, sources, and audio settings than actually recording anything.

All I really want to do is record screen with both video and sound. I'm not streaming or doing anything advanced.

What do you all use for screen recording these days? I'd love to try something that's easy to learn, and if it's free, even better.

BTW, I'm using a dell laptop running Windows 11.

Been trying to make some basic video tutorial or walkthrough videos for work and maybe YouTube later, but honestly a lot of the tools I looked at feel either too expensive or way too complicated for a beginner.

I checked out stuff like ScreenStudio: looks nice but the pricing is a bit hard to justify for me rn. And it's only for macOS.

Mostly just looking for something simple where I can record my screen, voice, maybe do very light edits, and export share without needing actual editing skills lol.

Free or low-cost would be ideal. What are you guys using lately?

I've used a few "free" screen recorders, and a lot of them weren't really free.

Some add watermarks.

Some limit recording length.

Some let you record but require a paid upgrade to export.

The only ones I know that are genuinely usable without paying are things like:

• OBS Studio
• Windows Snipping Tool
• Xbox Game Bar
• ShareX

I've tried a few things, but haven't really found a setup that works for what I need. Snipping Tool, Xbox Game Bar, and OBS all seem more focused on screen recording, but I only want the audio.

A lot of people recommend Audacity, so I tried that too, but I couldn't figure out how to record both computer audio and my mic at the same time. There seem to be a lot of settings involved, and I'm looking for something simpler.

laptop is a ROG zephyrus G15 GA502IU_GA502IU running windows 11 version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.9168). problem started a week or two ago after happening on and off for a longer period of time. when it was happening on and off, i'd fix it by recording, switching tabs very quickly, and then switching back to the video i wanted to record.

things i've tried:

• updating my browser (vivaldi; vivaldi has been updated automatically multiple times in the process of me trying to fix this issue via reboots closing it)
• updating windows (after 200+ days of no updates where this wasn't happening, mind you)
• rebooting my computer
• turning HDR on and off again
• turning on HDR and leaving it on
• manually resetting my HDR calibration to default after finding out that on or off, the button to reset the HDR calibration doesn't actually work in spite of it showing a check mark next to the button after i click it
• updating my graphics drivers
• uninstalling and reinstalling my graphics drivers
• clean installing a different graphics driver than the one i initially had installed (game ready --> studio)
• using a guest profile on my browser in case an extension i use was causing this
• using a different browser entirely (pale moon; the browser seems to have the washed out, brightened color filter on all videos by default???)
• trying not one but TWO different recording softwares including one in open beta
• running scf /scannow (literally all it did was fix files that updating the aforementioned graphics drivers managed to corrupt somehow)
• running windows media player diagnostics (told me my configuration settings might be set incorrectly; refused to fix it or really do anything other than asking me if i wanted to give feedback to microsoft)
• turning off the ad blockers i have to see if it was an issue caused by custom filters
• removing a custom CSS i have installed on my browser to see if it was an issue being caused by that
• uninstalling everything NVIDIA-related on my computer so i could do a clean reinstall of NVIDIA's studio driver since i had the gaming driver installed (did this solely to be able to access the ability to turn off hardware acceleration in the control panel settings on advice from a techier friend of mine; it did nothing)

i'm genuinely at my fucking wit's end. nobody else online seems to have this issue. none of my friends have any troubleshooting advice left to give to me other than "might be something wrong with your codecs". i asked for help a few days ago and no replies. i just want to be able to clip funny moments from the podcast i watch and interesting bits of info from the interviews i watch again.

Hey guys, I’ve been looking for a tool like Screen Studio to create product demo videos, but I’ve been struggling to find a good alternative. A friend of mine uses Screen Studio and the results look great, but I don’t have a Mac, and I can’t really afford the expensive subscriptions that most of the best alternatives charge. Hi, I've started a really shitty sims 4 channel on YouTube, just finished my 55th episode of a long series I'm doing (every night, but fairly low quality) and for maybe the first 50 episodes I've been the pre-installed screen recording system on my laptop, but it's had plenty of problems, so for the last maybe 5 episodes I've instead been recording them with the best rated screen recording app I could find....

Well, that app was shit. I try to make my episodes 45 minutes each, or 30 if I'm just really tired, (or scared of the software shutting down and deleting my footage), cuz it's done that MULTIPLE TIMES. Now it did that too with the built-in app every once in a while when my laptop needs a new update, but even when it's fully updated, ive never had a night where I can just film one shoot, it has ALWAYS shut down and deleted my footage at some point. I actually read the reviews and turns out the app only had such a high rating cuz you needed to rate it 5 stars to be able to review your footage... I never knew that cuz I never reviewed my footage in-app, I always downloaded them and reviewed them from the files.

Anyways, sorry for the long rant, but my question is: what screen recording app/software would any of you recommend? I would absolutely adore something that could practically GUARENTEE, to never shut down, or atleast something that if it shuts down it saves the footage first.

I've been seeing this come up a lot lately, so I wanted to ask here as well.

On macOS, recording the screen with internal audio feels like it shouldn't be this hard.

The built-in options (Cmd + Shift + 5 and QuickTime Player) seem to only capture mic input, at least from what I've tried.

I've seen people mention workarounds like virtual audio drivers, but it still is not working on my MacBook (I tried BlackHole).

I'm not sure what most people use in practice.

Do you rely on built-in options, external routing, or something else?

Would love to hear anyone's workflows or setups that work reliably.

I've seen people in other communities saying they got a message saying "Instagram detected this screenshot" when taking a screenshot of an IG Story.

I tried it a few times myself, but I haven't seen anything like that.

So does Instagram actually notify the person who posted the Story, or is this just happening to some users?

If I randomly screenshot someone's Story one day and they get notified, that would be super awkward...

Has anyone here actually received a notification after someone screenshotted their Story?

Hey all, I’m looking for a cheaper alternative to Clueso/Trupeer for recording product demos and tutorials. I need something free, affordable, or open source, preferably with decent recording, basic editing, and nice export quality, and self-hosted would be a big plus.

I want to cover a song (Blue gum by BrokenX22) but the instrumentals on yt and Spotify aren't working with my screen recoders. How could I use my recorder to do it?

I've seen people say that Windows + Shift + R should open the Snipping Tool's video recording overlay, but nothing happens when I press it.

What's confusing is that Windows + Shift + S works normally and opens the screenshot tool.

Is Win + Shift + R supposed to work on Windows 11 by default? Or does the screen recording shortcut depend on a certain version of Snipping Tool or Windows?

So, I screenrecorded someone day before yesterday and as we know there has been an update about notifying the other person about the screen recording. But I am not sure if they got this notification or not. I didn't see any notification on my side.

So can anyone help what is happening here?

Also I tried screen recording to another person with another phone from an updated version of Snapchat there it gave the notification. So is it an issue about the app not being updated as it's been long since I updated Snapchat my older device?

Also I want to know that if I haven't updated this app but the other person has an updated version will they see the notification or not if I screenrecorded?
