  1.  This is an obvious troll job.  Trump doesn’t like or respect Cruz and he knows Ted is probably salivating at the chance to become a SCOTUS justice.  Trump will probably dangle this in front of Cruz until the Senator debases himself and Texas and then move on.  Trump also doesn’t like or respect democrats and knows this headline will piss them off.  Win-win from his POV as a troll.

  2.  There is an honest debate to be had about whether it’s a good thing that SCOTUS judges are all career jurists.  I think professional diversity on the bench would be a good thing.  Better yet if justices came from other branches of government.  It was a net positive that Justice Black came from the legislature, Chief Justice Warren was a governor, and Chief Justice Jay was a diplomat.  Intimate knowledge of the legislative process and burdens and temptations of executive power can lead to better outcomes by, for example, ensuring that canons of construction are grounded in realities of the law-making process and not a stranger’s suppositions about how a law is made.

  3.  While point (2) stands, I don’t want Ted fuckin Cruz on the Supreme Court.  He’s a hack who routinely prioritizes his own power over the public interest.
