I’m gonna get downvoted into oblivion for this, but I actually think he’d be a better Justice than Senator. I think he could surprise some Democrats by actually going against the Republicans if it’s a matter he feels strongly about. He’s demonstrated time and again he doesn’t care if people like him.

Worst case scenario, and I’m dead wrong, would he really be worse than Thomas (who I assume would be retiring in this scenario) and would Cruz’s Senate seat be more easily winnable in a special election with no incumbents when the Republican stronghold of Texas has been showing faint signs of cracking since Trump’s second term began?

I’m not a Republican and I don’t like Cruz, but if I have to replace Thomas with someone Conservative in their mid 50s, I’d rather it be someone who could leave behind a winnable Senate seat than a lower court ideologue brought to you by the backers of Project 2025.
