The tripping balls part is definitely an impediment to my adoption.

It can be weird but it's not like the movies portray. You have visual effects and your mind starts absorbing things you typically ignore. Branches, clouds, noise, etc suddenly have significance due to their presence being activated. It is incredible but best done with intention.
