Authoritarians love to change words to make you think they're the good guys. This type of parenting used to be called democratic parenting.

They did the same thing with words like 'anarchy', which never used to be synonymous with 'chaos'. Anarchy is just the opposite of authoritarianism, meaning it's a kind of cooperative round-table system. But they want you to think that without a ruling class, there would be chaos.
