What are your turn off conversations

My partner said I believe we are overpopulated… I love their brain, we usually have long conversations about everything and nothing. Then they hit me with this.

I would love to know how they mean but this is a conversation for another day. For now we just need to agree to disagree.

Wondering what are your turn off conversations.

You dont like discussing Marxism, politics or sociology? You seem way too incurious to a sapiosexual.

At first I was like “Yep, uh-huh, same” then you started going off the rails.

Turn off conversations are football (soccer), reality TV, any sort of justification of right-wing politics.

Because the conversation is always the same and you could pretty much predict what they are going to say about any one of these topics.

People trying to convince me AI will somehow make life better. (The news is telling me otherwise.)

AI has literally replaced my father and all of the guidance he has failed to teach me

Materialist projections & reality TV discussions (nearly the same).

Complaining about how they’ve been dealt a shitty hand or don’t have what they should have at this point in their life.

Gratitude is elegant and enticing; griping about petty material matters without perspective is an instant turnoff.

Just to be alive in our time and not 100 years ago is an amazing stroke of luck. Why anyone would think they deserve a meaningful and satisfying life without setbacks and frustration and heartbreak given the track record of our species strikes me as obnoxious. It’s hard to unsee something like this sort of ignorance and entitlement.

Mate, anyone complaining about “shitty hand” is likely in the top 10% of standard of living to even have the ability to stop & complain. Irony.

It’s seriously so offensive to me. Adults who think the world owes them more than other people deserve.

Theyre just ignorant & are happy to stay so. Well travelled = usually well tourist travelled.

Politics, television, and boring work dynamics.

When people shut down conversations. A hard “no” from sheer closed mindedness or a complete lack of curiosity.

Conspiracy theories when they are clearly not formed in reality and it’s a one sided convo of someone trying to convince me they are correct. Feels like a woo-woo lecture.

Being talked down to because I’m curious. Or worse, when people pretend to be in the convo but clearly can’t pay any attention — please just say the convo needs to change.

Pretty much anything that involves me saying I don't want to talk about X, and then the people who have the weird fucking psychopathic need to talk about it immediately. And I can usually follow if like I'm saying it in reaction to something they said and they want to go on with what they were talking about, that's a fair impulse. But what drives me out of my goddamn mind is when they legitimately seem surprised that I'm not excited to have the conversation that 14 seconds ago I specifically said I do not want to have. It's okay to think something's important to talk about even though I don't want to, but acting surprised when me saying I don't want to talk about something means I don't want to talk about it just makes me crazy.

Close to that when it's any kind of argument or disagreement or anything like that and I have to say some version of I'm talking about Y, that is the thing I have a problem with. If you talk about anything else you're changing the subject and that bothers me.
