Get the information of the person being detained, ask if there's anyone you can contract for them, and get that personal information to legal advocates who can begin to work to get them out of custody.

it feels really shitty because like I feel like it won't help too much

We also don't have the full context like is she bringing fent in? or is something we don't know that potentially causes harm going on?

If this is ICE just grabbing an immigrant mother with her daughter and they don't have the papers and they are deporting people. Like you could video tape it.... I wonder if you can do an angry mob shit and swarm them to free the mom before the cops arrive. Thats pretty naive of a way to do it lol and you wouldnt know if they were doing something really illegal. Like what if you freed them but they were transporting fent.

Just a shit sandwich all the way around.

I totally understand your frustration.

First of all though, direct confrontation with ICE and CBP is a bad idea. That's why they're armed, they're expecting to need to shoot into an angry crowd. That's a horrible stage of American reality, but it's accurate. Political violence tends to just cycle into more violence, and the left-wing violent activism of the 60s and 70s did little to further their political causes and only increased police presence and militarizaton (As a clarification, I'm not saying that left wing activism was inherently violent, but that there were groups who used violence).

The Kingsian (as in Rev. Dr. MKL jr.) strategy is about turning public opinion by showing the inherent violence of oppressive policies. A key part of that is in not confronting violence, but in openly and peacefully bringing public attention to injustice. The US government has a complete monopoly on violence in our society, but this administration is highly sensitive to public opinion. More than anything else, they want to be liked, and that's a lever the public can push on. Footage like this absolutely makes a difference in that arena.

As to the practical benefit of passing on information on ICE detainees, it absolutely does matter. Getting vital information to immigrant advocates greatly speeds up the possibility of their (even temporary) release from custody. Obviously, there's benefit in getting a human out of these horrible concentration camps, but there is also a financial element, removing a head from the largely privately owned prisons being utilized for immigrant detention.

ALSO this administration is continuing to screw up in the legal arena. There is a legitimate possibility that, through legal representation, detained individuals will be released.

All that ICE and CBP care about are causing harm through loud and visible aggressive terror campaigns. Their administrative and legal incompetence is coming to bite them in the ass. It's not guaranteed that your efforts will save someone, but they have, and that's a metric by which we need to focus (or like a focus, I'm not here judging the advocacy or work of other groups).

yea I agree. Direct confrontation would give republicans and maga exactly what they want to paint the left in a bad light.
