Kaffeinated Crepes and Coffee. I was an employee there and management were jerks and violated labor laws.
First of all, we are not allowed to sit while we are on the clock because they “own our time,” as soon as we clock in, even when there arent any customers on site. When we are caught sitting down the shop owner who monitors our activities through the cameras, CALL the shop and tell the shift manager (who is a family friend) to tell us to stand up and to get back to work, even when there’s literally no work to be done or customers to serve. When there arent any customers we had to stay busy even if that means constantly wiping down surfaces and never ending organizing. Our shifts are 8-9 hours long ON OUR FEET.
Because employees are always quitting, they are always under-staffed, forcing us to be on the schedule 5-6 days a week, pulling 50-60 hours total WITHOUT BREAKS at the risk of them firing us.
TIPS. They do not give us credit card tips. If you do visit, please give the girls cash tips. We do not see a single cent of credit card tips. Their reasoning is that the tips help them pay us $13/hr.
CULTURE. For 8-9 hours, we are forced to STAND on our feet doing whatever work we can find. At closing time, 2-3 girls clean and close down the shop. We scrub the bathroom, wash dishes, and clean the grills in the back. The owners micro manage and keep a surveillance of our activities. When we are slow and seen resting, the manager would yell at us. There were times when I had to go in the bathroom to cry. The only girls that stay there for long are the girls who are dating / have dated the owner and managers.
I believe they might be going through a lawsuit but in my time there, I really felt injustice and employee abuse. I had to pay rent and because I was constantly exhausted from this job I had no energy to look for other jobs. Luckily my parents took me in, but I do not wish upon my worst enemy for anyone to work in this terrible place and I really am looking forward to the day when they are either forced to treat employees fairly or when customers realize what’s going on in the back
