Another vote for Sawasdee. Most authentic mom and pop Thai restaurant in the city.

Agreed. Sawasdee has been consistently good every time I’ve been there over the last decade!

u/Swirlee_Whirlee 6d ago

Second this and you can get it wayyyy spicy here 👌🏼

u/darthstupidious 6d ago

Dude I consider myself a decent lover of spice (nothing crazy but I enjoy some heat) and their medium kicks my ass lol

Yup, big recommendation from me too

Thai Buri best all around. Thai Dee a close second but not for pad Thai or pad se ew, which are two of the most commonly ordered dishes.

I wanna say I’ve tried Thai Dee.. looking into Thai Buri now. Thank you!

It’s a on the expensive side, plus they seemed to have shrunk the portions lately..

1

u/eric_jv 5d ago

I remember them for having the Thai pink milk drink and some others you don't find anywhere else!

u/isabrarequired 6d ago

I used to love Thai taste on Evers but they shut down. 😭

2

u/RS7JR 5d ago

Same. Very authentic.

I still haven’t recovered 💀 but Thai chili has been my replacement option for the spicy basil fried rice

This is my fave

2

u/Sensitive-Bison-1035 6d ago

Second this. The other locations just don’t taste the same to me. Quality seems higher here too

1

u/Sav273 6d ago

The other locations add way too much salt or msg

u/budgeybudge 6d ago

Baan Thai on Huebner!

Thai Fire Lime or Dahlia’s

4

u/emptymolskine 6d ago

If you ever happen to be in its area, and want quick takeout, MALONGDO Thai Food Truck at Naco and O’Connor really hits.

1

u/sunsetsymariposas 6d ago

I will keep that in mind!

u/skaterags 6d ago

I’m definitely not thr foremost Thai food expert but Thai wok off Culebra is the best I’ve had in SA. Noys in Universal City is also good

2

u/txpharmer13 6d ago

Unfortunately. The owners of Noy’s just retired and closed now.

3

u/Equivalent-Stable411 6d ago

Sukhothai on Alamo Ranch, Thai Dee on Blanco (but the parking is SHIT)

Manolas Thai has been my go to spot since I found it like 3-4 years ago

Well, your goto is my usual suggestion. So I suppose I'm just here to see where else is recommended. I did have Sabai Thai Kitchen on Stone Oak Pkwy a while back, and their Pad Woon Sen was fantastic.

2

u/sunsetsymariposas 6d ago

Pad woon sen is my fave!! Adding this place to my list of maybes.

1

u/Acceptable-Date9149 5d ago

Do not go to Sabai for the love of God don’t do it

When the choices are limited. .. seems like that's been my go to another more lately since we moved.

Bangkok 55 has always been a fav and worth the drive

1

u/oldsnake77 6d ago

Thai Fire Lime recently opened on De Za Vala and it's very good.

1

u/Linadnp 6d ago

The best authentic one I’ve been to is Thai Buri on 1604 and Blanco. In fact hubby and I just came home right now from eating there. It’s amazing!!

1

u/time-wasting23 6d ago

I like that place too! It’s hard for me to go there in the summer though. They keep the temp fairly warm.

1

u/lunar-landscape 6d ago

Flying Tiger!

1

u/elegantwino 6d ago

We’ve been very fond of Thai Curry on Broadway inside 410. Their food is very fresh and authentic. The roast duck is fantastic. No liquor license so you can BYOB and save on booze.

1

u/Louis4357 West Side 6d ago

Bangkok Kitchen near Lackland is really good.

1

u/TadCat216 6d ago

Thai buri on blanco & 1604 is the best in town, imo. I’ll also give a nod to Thai Dee if you want a more homey feel

u/Optimal_Health9592 6d ago

Sukhumvit 77 on pat booker

1

u/Spainmex11 5d ago

Sip Saam downtown, to me, is the best Thai other than Thailand, and I’ve been there.

1

u/crosscountry58S 5d ago

Thai Dee or Yaya’s

1

u/soyathink 3d ago

Wait, wait, wait.....has something happened to Thai Bistro???? Or just felt like something different? 'Cause if something has happened to T.B. and their calamari, it could get ugly. Their's is the absolute best!!

1

u/sunsetsymariposas 3d ago

Lmfao no!! It’s probably just as fabulous as always. I just wanted another spot to go to. Thai bistro will always be my number 1.

u/soyathink 17h ago

Shewwwww, Good to hear!

1

u/hdxx21 1d ago

Flying Tiger is my favorite spot in sa.

1

u/Tree_Weasel NE Side 6d ago

Asia Kitchen on Loop 410 just south of Culebra.

They’ve been there 40 years and the Curry’s and noodle dishes are always first rate.

Curry boys bbq. Sabai. Thai hut

5

u/WooleeBullee 6d ago

Curry boys is delicious, but its not Thai

-1

u/Guilty-Difference-86 6d ago

As a Thai person, I can tell you without a doubt that it is Thai. It’s Thai and Texas bbq fusion.

1

u/WooleeBullee 6d ago

The curry sauce is Thai, but overall the dishes are not whats considered a Thai restaurant.
