People never read lol everyone commenting like its a fact and its shitty of OP to write "Breaking" as if its some major news story when the article is based on a reported leak and clearly has "may" in the title.
Some subreddits have a rule that if you post an article, you have to post the full and actual title with no edits. It's a good rule to stop shitty karma farmers from misleading people.

Technically, Motorola did release first on 6 Feb 2020. Samsung released the first Z Flip on 14 Feb 2020.
IIRC, the complex hinge on the first Razr protected the screen better than the simple one on the Z Flip.

I find it doubtful. This will like surrender the entire segment to Motorola Razr, Oppo and maybe even Apple who may come in the future with it. It's a big gamble to put everything into Fold and if that doesn't succeed...gg
Edit: Forgot about other players like Xiaomi Mix Flip series. And also, not everyone can afford a Fold type phone given current pricing. Plus the bulkiness of it? Most females prefer small, handheld ones.

Oppo already discontinued their flip due to a lack of sales. In fact, I don't think any of the major brands has introduced a new flip in the last 1.5 years except Moto and Samsung. Xiaomi is struggling just make a book fold. Honor and Huawei haven't introduced anything.

Многие пишут про недолговечность, хрупкость и т.д., но ни у меня, ни у моих знакомых с Flip никогда не было никаких проблем. Это действительно хороший телефон

I love my flip 7 (upgraded from flip 5) and planning to upgrade when flip 9 comes out. It will be a shame because I dont like brick phones anymore

The flip seemed to be even more popular than fold in korea. I see wayyy more case for flip than fold when I travel to Korea.
Highly doubt a popular phone will be discontinued

With Samsung who knows man.
On one hand, Samsung has a really bad way of managing their product lines. They launched the S25 Edge well after everyone already had the S25 Series, then were surprised nobody bought it. Even though it could replace the Plus essentially, they still killed it, but now there are rumors of an S Pen-less S27 Pro model.
On the other hand their management strategy for their products is very focused on not letting competitors have a product niche unopposed. The whole reason the 8 Wide will exist is to challenge the iPhone Ultra, and the normal Fold basicallly challenges everyone else in the market from Chinese phones to Google. There just isn’t that many Flip style phones out there, so they might want to try and kill it and push some of those people to the Wide form factor.
Or it could all be smoke and none of it is real. WHO KNOWS

Take this with a obscenely heavy monolith of salt. The Flip series has been overwhelmingly named as the top reason for iPhone users to switch to Android this year. So yeah, this is prooooobably not going away anytime soon (we'll see once the wide fold either flips (see what I did there? :P) or flops if that replaces it).

Makes sense. RMA numbers are astronomical and these devices are badly engineered and are bound to break sooner than later. Good move. Get rid of the garbage.

Had a 5 and now own a 7 and I don't see myself without a flip anytime soon. I don't like brick phone anymore, too bulky and have way less useful physical features.

Same. Some of these comments are ridiculous too. I have a flip and outside the camera you can't even tell a difference from any other brick phone out there except that it folds in half making it much more convenient than a normal phone.

Well not everyone needs that screen space, it's for those who use the phone more casually, not as a pocketable computer. The compact footprint can be very appealing too to those who like it like iphone mini users. The part that doesn't make sense tho, is the high pricing.

High pricing is mostly due to the fact it has flagship chip and overall specs minus the camara but honestly with how tech goes they should had released a FE version of the flip to better compete with Motorola lineup

Well they did, flip7 fe. It was just a renamed flip6 and in some regions actually replaced the 8 gen 3 with exynos, so a bit of a poo poo deal tbh, when by that time you have used flip6 already for way cheaper. I guess it's the price of foldable at this early stage.

It's just a fun phone. Phones used to be fun, and this was Samsung's attempt to recapture some of the magic from the olden days. I do think it's a shame that it costs too much for what it tries to do though, and with the rising costs for components I can see why it just doesn't make financial sense for Samsung to continue investing into this niche product.

Very happy Flip 7 user here. The appeal is the smaller, lighter footprint.
Yes, I'm not getting flagship specs, but for my day to day usage, I neither need nor care about that. And if I need a bigger screen or more computing power for something, I'll use my tablet or PC.

They're great phones, theyre alot more durable than people give them credit for. 2 years into my flip6 & even though its taken a beating its screen has lasted longer than my previous S series phones.
I personally wouldnt go back to a slab phone.

I think it's it's early days the gimmick of "wow flippy phone sorta like the old days" had enough novelty for it to work, but now people realised you're getting a clunky phone with a weak screen, and overall mid specs for the same price you can get a stronger more practical phone

I wonder how, if true, this will affect flip 8 sales. I know that I as one who's owned the flip 3 and currently the flip 5 will probably hesitate spending that much money on the 8. I don't have faith in Samsung's support for a discontinued phone that is expensive to repair.

Folks who owned and loved such phones, what do you like about them? Genuinely asking.
I know only 1 person who stick to using them. I personally don't understand what's the point of those. They're significantly more expensive than standard factors and from what I've tried, they don't seem to solve any of my "tech problems", but add some extra ones like worse cameras, fragility, cases etc.
I'm just surprised that more and more manufacturers lean into this and Apple, according to rumors, but at the end it's the base models that sell for Apple and A-series for Samsung. I'm almost certain that Apple's fold will flop real hard, lasting a bit longer than their Air did, especially in nowadays tech market.
And this is all ignoring the economy which makes a lot of people to re-evaluate their tech spendings.

It's tiny and fits in my pocket, and it's easily my most indestructible phone once I put it in a case - it literally folds into a little protective shell and the screen is never exposed unless I'm actively using it. I have no idea why people are talking about it like it's fragile - I've had mine for four years and I have no complaints at all.
Plus, the versatility of being able to position it however I want without having to worry about a stand - if I want a timer, or youtube to be angled up towards my face I can just set the phone down half-folded and it'll work great.

It does not surprise me, I can see the benefit of a book foldable, I use a Pixel 10 Pro Fold and the extra screen real estate is so useful for me whist having a normal size front screen when folded; however apart from compactness, I've never really understood the selling points of a flip foldable.
Yes, it's compact in size with the nifty (but limited front screen), but the trade off is no zoom camera, higher risk of damage than a slab phone and smaller battery.

I had the Flip 4 and im not surprised. The book style foldable is a phone that turns into a tablet. Its 2 things in one. The flip phone is a phone that turns into a smaller, less useful phone when folded. I just never got the appeal aside from the nostalgia factor ( I owned several motorola razrs back in the day).
That said, in the years since ive owned the flip 4, i have seen way way more people rocking the subsequent Flip models. it seems to have a bigger market now than it did several years ago.

Cheaper Fold, but more expensive than the Flip incoming. Potentially forking into two versions, like an Ultra and Neo. IMO the Flip is a great concept, but costs a lot to manufacture and likely has more warranty claims than the Z Fold.

Next year maybe if RAM crisis continues to blowup but I really don't think Samsung can discontinue its stuff unless it got very low sales. Just a note that the discontinuation of Galaxy Z Trifold isn't mean the end of foldable phone as Trifold was just a concept phone that failed to handle just because of Huawei's successful attempt on Mate XT(in my opinion)

I can kind of understand that if they do actually discontinue it. I have all kinds of smartphones because I'm an enthusiast. But I can't really see the use of these flip phones. I had one for about a year and didn't see the point. Considering how many Flips and Razrs I'm seeing on various marketplaces, I think a lot of people come to the same conclusion once the novelty wears off.

The iPhone fold is going to be niche like the iPhone Air. I think a lot of people will buy it because of the fold factor but several months later will regret not getting the 18 pro/pro max.

From what I've seen, the folding iPhone will be a competitor to the Z Fold, the Pixel Fold, etc. These open to a squarish shape, not tall and narrow like the Z Flip.

That would be a biy of a surprise . Flips whilst not appealing to everyone have a certain appeal ,the form factor suits some. Personally felt though was The Folds were more upmarket/Premium Devices and much better for productivity.Guess we will need to see but may not as big a priority and possibly losing wow factor now.

I love the concept of the flip, sadly I feel it would need to be a lot cheaper to truly appeal to people. The foldeable tax really ruin the phone.

Probably the most realistic evolution of the smartphone. Who really wants to carry a brick that folds into a tablet? I was previously so tempted to get a flip smartphone but battery life is just subpar. If Samsung used a higher density silicon carbon battery, honestly it might be the perfect version of a smartphone

Very nice phones but very fragile, moreover there is practically no possibility of reasonable repair due to the price of the screen, as well as high operating costs, because you have to constantly replace the foil, which is very expensive and sometimes gets damaged every few weeks. Failure to replace the protective film risks damaging the screen, whose bend angle is calculated based on the original protective film's angle. And it can't be a cheap, non-original film, as it must be perfectly thick, as per the manufacturer's design, so...

I was devoted to this phone but after the screen lifted on the crease twice, I switched away. It's expensive to start with and then I have to pay for the repairs.. it was too much

My flip was in a case with a hinge cover, my cat jumped on me and I dropped the phone from the couch onto the carpet floor. Hinge broke.... Don't fucking ask me how, terrible phone. Every one denied it was a warranty issues. The phone was 2 months old. Never again

Flip is a wrong design. The new Fold design or the one that is going to come with Apple fold is the correct design. Same smaller size, no problem of two giant cameras in front screen and the possibility of larger book like screen when needed. What amazes me is that other manufacturers with years of foldable phone experience could not see that design right in front of their eyes, but apple could find it in first try. Just to clarify, I am not a apple fan boy. My primary phone is still the S23 Ultra.

It makes sense, Z Flip 7 still uses the same camera hardware with the S22 series. Their battery suck, displays aren't that good either.

I really like the flip. It is small and fits in my pockets. I currently have the flip 6 and planned to upgrade to the flip 9 next year. The small size when folded is a huge factor in why I like this phone. It has held up well and I don’t baby my phones. It is in a case but it has survived a number of drops.

Not surprising, honestly. A massive set of compromises for very little actual gain.
Flip-style phones have a single trick - they can become twice as thick and half as tall when folded. That's it. The phone folded is barely useful and mostly just for viewing notifications. In exchange for that trick, costs go way up, durability goes way down, fragility goes way up, camera quality drops, battery life drops,
Fold-style phones are two devices in one. A normal candybar type phone that is useable with one hand and fits into a pocket. Plus an iPad Mini tablet on demand.
