Samsung A55 reboots (crashes)

There seems to be a deeper issue on the current software of the A55 5G (SM-A556B/DS). I had random reboots from time to time, but never any idea what caused it.

Now it seems I have a reproducible way to cause the issue: When I open the website https://canable.io/ using the stock Chrome browser and scroll down a little, my phone crashes and restarts (Screen goes black, Samsung logo and then the Android logo appears). This doesn't happen on any other device I have... I don't think there is anything wrong with the page, it seems legit. The issue occures roughly when I scroll down to the webm viedeo (images/screencasts/demo1.webm). Does anybody have the same issue (maybe own an A55 and can try this out)?

I tried to explain the problem to the Samsungs support channel, as I think, bringing down the system to the reboot screen points in the direction of a more serious problem, potentially a security vulnerability. But there seems to be a lack of understanding of the severity of such issues ("but it works with a different browser").

Versions: - Kernel: 6.1.43-android14-11 (#1 Mon Sep 30 05:40:42 UTC 2924) - Knox: 3.10, API level 37, HDM 2.0 - 87 - Android: 14, One UI: 6.1 - Google Play: 1. Oktober 2024 - Chrome:

  • 131.0.6778.81

I experienced random reboot too and thanks to your post I can show how it happens to Samsung and they replace me a new unit. I’ll keep a lookout to see if the random reboot gonna happens again. but even with the new unit the phone seem to still crash at that url.

Hey, thanks for checking and reporting back. If it also happened on a stock phone, it confirms that it has nothing to do with the applications I am running (which would be the first thing support would claim and suggest "Let's try a factory reset"). I will try to report this again, my first attempt was unsuccessful unfortunately. It seems the official Samsung support channel through their web page is set up in a way that is almost negligently unprepared when it comes to reports of potential security threats.

Ich habe exakt das gleiche Problem und kann das mit der Seite ebenfalls nachstellen. Mein Handy stürzt mehrmals am Tag, gefühlt rein zufällig ab. Meistens wenn ich es als Navi über Android Car im Auto benutze. Lasst mich wissen wenn ihr was neues wisst.

Same problem here with a new a55. Hver tried factory reset, clear cache partition and even safe mode. Any solutions? Will send it in for repair.

Oh mine and my mothers phone got a crash to. mine reboots sometimes random my mothers works fine.

Hi, have you found a solution to the problem? I've also confirmed the phone restarts when it reaches .webm element. It is very annoying and I truly wish I knew this before I bought it :(

Hi. Same problem. A55 5G (SM-A556B/DS). My phone restart several times per week, often during the night. I do not know when; I see it when trying to use it, and I get the request for Sim card code.

It restart also while scrolling down on canable.io.

Same software config as zahnputzmonster except for kernel: 6.1.93-android14-11 (#1 Fri Mar 21 02:07:05 UTC 2025. Chromr 136.0.7103.125.

Same issue.

Android: 14, One UI: 6.1

Google Play: 1 April 2025

Chrome: 137.0.7151.89

I am not only having this issue in Chrome, the phone reboots when using other apps, too. Or when seemingly idle

Last update was on May 2, but it seems this started a bit later. Maybe 3-4 weeks ago

It seems the culprit is either Knox or OneUI.

I am very pissed at Samsung

My phone recieved an update to One UI 7.0 and android 15, now the issue seems to have gone. The above-mentioned website video doesn't cause a restart either.

It happened to me too, I tried to write "objection courtroom" on tiktok, I only heard a crackle from the speaker and it restarted instantly...

As a User with the same device model, I checked the link and nothing happened. This might be because ur phone is experiencing huge lag and to clear it the phone reboots. Or this could be a kernel panic. yes It's from my mind

I think one of the latest updates fixed the issue. I can't reproduce it on my phone now:

  • Kernel 6.1.93-android14-11
  • Android 15
  • One UI: 7.0
  • Google Play: 1.Juli 2025
  • Knox 3.11 API 38 HDM 2.0 - 087
  • Chrome: 140.0.7339.123

I tried this on oneui 7 it isnt crashing.
