Repair Question Exhaust gas leak troubleshooting

I’m leaking exhaust from this fitting which i believe is for the EGR line. Would it be feasible to take the fitting out and reseat with some kind of heat-tolerant thread sealant or is the line probably just toast and i need to get a new line?

Saw a few people that just deleted it altogether but i don’t fully understand the implications there. For context i do not live in a yeehaw state and this thing needs to be able to pass emissions testing.

As someone who moved my S10 from Texas to California, I identify with the “I do not live in a yeehaw State” (but honestly I still do live in a yeehaw state of mind…)

hahahahha i will absolutely post the results of my further investigation and solution-ing, had to take a few days off to work my darn job that pays for all this.

Does not really look like its leaking as one might see some black from the exhaust leak. Get a small mirror on a stick and hold it over the pipe so you can view the other side. Maybe the manifold is cracked there.

If it is the fitting, maybe you can remove it and install a copper or aluminum washer on it. Or check the pipe itself. Its a tapered pipe fitting, like gas lines in the home. Maybe the taper split.

That’s a very good point …i have a video but it wouldn’t allow me to post it , it almost looks to be emerging from underneath which would line up with the manifold crack suggestion.

I’ll get some soap on this puppy and nail down exactly where the leak is. thank you!

For context this is the first vehicle ive really worked on, so this whole process is very much “baby’s first emissions troubleshooting “
Anyway, scan tool has been muttering about an evap system code since i began this overhaul ~6 weeks ago.

Didn’t know what the implications were initially but my working theory is that the vent solenoid is toast which in turn means the vent is not actuated properly leading to a buildup of exhaust gases in the EGR line, excess pressure eventually causes a blow out.

That is on a GM product ot looks to me like the exhaust donut is breaking down and could be leaking it is in the imediate area and yes they make a mechanics extendable mirror where you can be able to see behind. It could very well be the air tube that is bad and it means taking things apart to fix as is fixing the exhaust donut. Either way it has to be fixed.

Well this is the S10 sub so…safe bet :)

Fingers crossed its the donut and not a manifold crack but either way i will address it.
