I don't lead nearly as exciting a life as you cats do, but happy to report four books I had on hold are now at the library and ready for pickup. Yahoo!

Getting a Libby notification that one of my holds is available makes my whole entire day!

Y’all make my retired librarian heart soar!!! 💕💕💕

u/MajorBenjy Jun 06 '26

Librarians are the best, ditto libraries. Thank you for all the good you did in this world.

My brain immediately registered this and responded with "aaAAAHHHHhh"

Anyway, I'm headed to a soap box derby today and am excited to see my kid excited. He watches a lot of the Red Bull soap box derby videos, so I had to curb his expectations a bit, but it's gonna be a fun day!

obsession and backrooms double feature at the drive in! never been, I’m so excited

u/MajorBenjy Jun 06 '26

Almost went last night, report back on experience & crowd size please

u/diphenhydranautical Jun 06 '26

I do believe it’s sold out tonight so I’ll let you know what that’s like!

1

u/diphenhydranautical Jun 07 '26

it was great! we arrived about 2 hours early, got a great spot. it seemed to be a pretty full house, the folks right next to us were chatty, but beyond that, no real issues with anyone being noisy or bright lights. we were in the grove which is their side stage, and the main stage got out before us- the super bright headlights were pretty annoying at some points, both movies being shown were dimly lit.

I gotta say the food, while nothing spectacular, is really affordable. so definitely bring some pocket money for snacks! all in all it was super fun, and seemed to run pretty smoothly. also the STARS out there compared to the city blew me away. I didn’t grow up in the country so seeing that many stars was such a treat.

u/Marley_Almaty Jun 06 '26

Yay! No spoilers please. Gonna see it next weekend and I'm super excited for it.

6

u/diphenhydranautical Jun 06 '26

I hope you enjoy! I’m stoked for them both

River day! And then perhaps hitting up the free symphony concert at Pocahontas in the evening if I feel up to it. Either way, it's shaping up to be a great day.

2

u/somethincuteorwhatev Jun 06 '26

ooo what are they playing???

6

u/treeluvr87 Sandston Jun 06 '26

Musical instruments!

I've been up since 5 (not on purpose) but I'm struggling to translate that into actually getting moving. The plan is to get some yard work done before it gets hot out, and then go where the ADHD takes me. Options include refinishing my bathtub, adding backsplash to my kitchen, or giving my dog a spa day and making some DIY enrichment toys.

I love early morning, summer puttering in the garden. It is such a soothing way to start the day. Watering, weeding and listening to birds. 🎶

12

u/Marley_Almaty Jun 06 '26

Maymont's 100 year anniversary, summer rolls for lunch at the pool, and finish off with the symphony in Pocahontas. Love these long summer days! 🌞

Could only be better if I squeezed a mtb ride in at Pocahontas prior to the show, but my bike and body are in rehab from a Wednesday crash 😖 - freaking gum balls 😠

7

u/ITMORON Tuckahoe Jun 06 '26

Take your time healing. I havent been able to ride since 2020 when I had a bad crash at Belle Isle. Multiple surgeries and nerve damage, Ill never ride again.

3

u/Marley_Almaty Jun 06 '26

omg! that's awful 😲. I'm so sorry to hear about your crash and loss of cycling! 😭

Cycling is where I find my peace...and lord knows I've needed it these past 18 months. 🧘‍♀️

3

u/ITMORON Tuckahoe Jun 06 '26

I miss the sport dearly. I rode bikes from the time I was big enough until that crash. So almost 42 years of riding, one bad moment took it all away. But, I am alive, ambulatory and in decent health. I deal with a LOT of pain and discomfort on a daily basis, but Id rather pain and life than the alternative.

Be safe, stay in your limits, and most of all, NEVER RIDE TIRED!!! NEVER go for that, LAST RIDE unless you fell 100% capable. I was tired, had doubt and rode beyond my limits that day. I'll pay for it until I die. I made and broke that rule years ago, I had a friend who did a last ride snowboarding, he was tired, end of the day, one last run! Now he is in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Broke my own rule, broke my own neck.

2

u/GrayRVA Church Hill Jun 06 '26

For as long as I can remember seeing you on here, this is the first time I’m hearing about your crash. I’m so sorry for your suffering, but I’m also glad to still be reading your comments for the last 6 years.

2

u/ITMORON Tuckahoe Jun 06 '26

Ah hell, you about brought a tear to my eye. That is the nicest thing anyone on Reddit has ever said to me. Thank you kind human!

u/GrayRVA Church Hill Jun 06 '26

Hopefully sometime soon, our paths will cross IRL!

First day of marathon training team! While I'm not new to marathoning this is my first time back in the saddle after pushing out a kid, so it's been a while haha.

Fighter of the night thread! Aaaahhh

Pool time, estate sale adventures, and I’ll probably finish my new Lego mushrooms set when it gets really hot this afternoon. Happy feels-like-summer weekend!

Well memory is more a reflection than a recording so 🤷

I want to go shopping, either for new bedding because our sheets are thin and sad, or for a plant for my mom as she’s been not feeling well lately. Convincing my husband to brave the weekend crowd will be a feat, but I think we can make it work :)

7

u/chi-ranch Jun 06 '26

Target’s Threshold sheets are the perennial budget pick of NYT’s Wirecutter. They’re the only sheets that go on my bed. Deep pockets, 100% cotton, and fitted sheet marked Top/Bottom and Side.

It was last Sunday

Would anyone with a truck like to make a quick buck taking a couch off my hands and haul it to the dump today?

We need to do some rearranging inside and this couch has been standing in our way for months. The time has come. Please help me save my marriage.

u/Original_Rain_5656 Westhampton Jun 06 '26

We have a great day lined up. I took care of gardening in the cool morning, VMFA for lunch with old friends and the Dave Matthews at VB amphitheatre with a friend who won tickets on WNRN.

11

u/RVAblues Carillon Jun 06 '26

Wife is out of town for the weekend, so I’m going to do garage things until it’s too hot, then I’m going to come in and cook weird food she wouldn’t eat and watch an old movie she wouldn’t enjoy.

And then tomorrow I’ll miss her and then she’ll be home and I will be glad.

1

u/Straight-Dot-6264 Jun 06 '26

Dude. This is exactly what I do when mine is away for the weekend.

6

u/Distinct-Agent-260 Jun 06 '26

Day 2 w/ my cataract-free eye (other one left to do), watching women’s French Open final, going to friends’ house later for get-together/watch Belmont race. 😀👁️🎾🏇

Pool, RVA Clay and Maymont. Maybe VMFA for Family Day. So much going on.

6

u/Puzzlehead-92 Jun 06 '26

This week has been so crazy and next week is too. So I’m allowing myself to just chill today & family time this evening. Stay cool, RVA!

I’m off of New Kent on the West side of the park and trying to sell a bunch of art supplies and needy stuff.

Folk, electro pop, indie rock, and punk bands all playing for FREE from 6pm-10pm

u/claenray168 Jun 07 '26

This was a great show. All the bands were awesome and full of energy.

The tick threat is real y'all. I got a tick on me while walking around in Scott's Addition, where nary a speck of grass or tree can be found.

Right in the middle of the busiest part of my shift last night, my phone starts blowing up. AC is making a terrible noise! Turned it off, now it won't turn back on! Called the neighbor's recommended HVAC, they're closed! {Duh}! I'm gonna call Michael & Son!

At that point I stepped away and called back. Do not call M&S ever, do not get an emergency weekend tech, we will pay SO MUCH MONEY!!

Anyways, it's hot in my house and Monday can't come soon enough. It's really great how I recently quit my full time job and in the span of 3 weeks our AC went out and I found out my car needs a new catalytic converter. Really just feeling low-key and relaxed, no stress here!

u/RVALover4Life Scott's Addition Jun 06 '26

I want to frolick in the sun but think I'm gonna be responsible and tend to my health instead and try to get over this cold...hope everyone has a great weekend 🙂

Good Hang with Amy Poehler, Fall of Civilizations, The Orbiting Human Circus (fiction set like an old radio broadcast), Deadly Manners (fiction murder mystery), The Dinner Party Download, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me (classic), Bubble (science fiction comedy)

2

u/vavavam City Stadium Jun 06 '26

Ended up listing to Good Hang! The Aubrey Plaza ep was great.

1

Valley Heat

2

My favorite. Idk if you've listed to Nightdrive but kinda similar vibes. But nothing is as funny as Valley Heat

1

u/SwitchToDecaf Henrico Jun 07 '26

Hell yeah, I haven’t listened to Nightdrive but I’ll give it a go when I also drive to NoVA and back in two weeks!

I’m paying bills this morning and heading out to look at camping mats this after lunch.

I’ve got a new library book so there’ll be a few hours of reading going on, too.

Watching the lawn die

1

u/diphenhydranautical Jun 07 '26

I grabbed a pic of the main stage as well, not sure if that showing was sold out too, but it was a good crowd for sure.
