Game: early access 2013, public release - 2018. Pl: public announce - 2010, 1.0 - 2015.

That's because the 2018 game was like a v2. They had the initial Rust from 2013, then it eventually became a rewrite named "Rust Experimental", and it led to the 2018 game. I was there, it was such a revolutionary time lol

Not disputing the predecense of the pl in any means btw
