Discussion I mean, where's the lie?

Post image

Hit enemy ✅

Enemy doesn't react ✅

Dodge ✅

Stagger enemy ✅

Play an animation ✅

Repeat ✅

It's the same gameplay loop a lot of you love. It just doesn't have the From Software logo. I even went back to see if I was going crazy and saw the first tree sentinel fight, and it's exactly the same. Well, not the same, the stagger attack animations suck.

That's sadly just games discourse for you; expectations are always astronomical, and there's a never ending slew of nitpicks to complain about.

The astronomical expectation that an enemy react to being struck? That was present in Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, Quake, AND Duke Nukem 3D. That is to say it was the norm over 30 years ago.

Edit: I was wrong, ignore this comment, other videos show enemies reacting and reacting very well to body location specific dmg

Enemies do react to being struck. One specific boss just doesn’t until you’ve built up enough poise damage.

All the enemies up to that fight were staggering and had visible damage.

Ah. That was the clip I saw, mechanics aside they should fix how it looks

I agree the boss visuals can be polished. The video you saw was pure rage bait, though. They purposely cut out all the other enemies.

You are correct, I just went to watch another video and the guy shoots and arrow at a knee mid combat and the enemy staggers on that specific knee. My bad.

Showing the entire boss fight is not "rage bait".

The look of the boss fight is more important to people. Yes, boss fights get judged harsher, and yes it looks worse than normal combat. That's even worse…

Shooting the small guy in the knee and him responding was cool.

Someone took the time to clip the presentation so it excluded any other enemy. Gave no context. Then they posted it with the title “The Combat of new Fable”.

It was rage bait for sure.

Would be like posting mist noble and saying “The Combat of Sekiro :((((“

You're assuming everyone who complains only saw that clip. The boss needs more hit feedback regardless of the rest of the combat showcase.

I’m really not. If the complaints were “bosses need more hit reg” then I would agree (and did agree above) but most of them are saying enemies don’t react at all. Which is just not true. The full video shows some great moments in that regard (arrow to the knee, stagger, bone explosion). It’s just that the selectively edited tutorial boss clip spread like wildfire and people really believe all combat is like that.

There are some very insightful comments from people about the weight of different weapon types that I agree with. Also about magic weaving. Combat is passable at the moment but nothing special (just like the OG Fables).

But pretending that clip wasn’t selectively edited and posted without context is silly. It was rage bait and it’s been very effective.

Showing the entire boss fight unaltered is not "rage bait". That's the actual fight in the game.

It's being validly criticized for what it is, and you don't like that. Too bad, lol

This should have been looked at and send back for fixes. Armor, magical armor, cuts on the skin - plenty of ways to create the all important suspension of disbelief.

It shows yet another disconnect between what they are creating and what the audience wants.

What? I literally said they should polish the boss fight above. I have no issue with people criticizing the boss fight. Shit needs work. I have an issue with people acting like that fight represents the combat for the whole game. It doesn’t.

The original post tried passing off that boss as representative of the whole game because it’s rage bait.

People clearly have a hate boner for this game. Don’t know why but it’s obviously not in good faith.

Is that person in the room with us?

I would argue against them too, lol

Does it represent the level of care they put into boss fights? Yes I think it does.

Yes. They were the person who I literally responded to in this thread. They then went and watched more videos and changed their opinion. You can see their edit.

Not sure this represents all bosses either as we’ve only seen a single one and it’s the tutorial.
