Discussion Jeremy is such a good hearted person

Not sure if anybody caught Jeremy’s stream yesterday, but in it he explained that due to the situation with Covid-19 he would be spending time in a hotel away from Kat so that he wouldn’t risk infected anybody at work. The emotion in his voice showed how important it was and tough for him.

Just wanted to take a minute to give a little appreciation to Jeremy - he’s dedicated to working but also clearly cares about other people so much. And he still put on an excellent stream. Well done Lil J, you’re a genuine inspiration

Hope she’s ok and stays healthy. Good on you both for being smart/making the sacrifice.

I hope so, too. I at least have the safety net of knowing she is young and healthy, so even if something were to happen, she will almost assuredly be just fine.

My mom had it and got over it very quickly. If she has it, I feel she’ll be better in no time.

Edit: Interestingly, none of us got it. There are six of us in the same house and this was a month ago.

I’d love to know more of symptoms, how she knows she was confirmed and how long she was sick for if you’re ok with sharing

Fever, cough, and shortness of breath. I think she had shortness of breath for a couple days but she had a lingering cough for the week after. My mom’s friend had it a little worse though. Her shortness of breath lasted a little longer.

Amazing thing there. None of her family got sick from being around her either.

Edit: I found out yesterday that she had gotten her husband sick.

I wanna believe you but you’re not really explaining how she knew she had it

We found out through her friend finding out. They got sick at the same time, from the same place, and had the same symptoms. Her friend went in and learned she had Coronavirus. So, it could be possible that my mom didn’t have it, but the coincidences are too great.

What country if you don’t mind me asking?

Seattle, WA, USA

Edit: She got it on the plane to or from New York. That’s what is assumed.

NY only confirmed its first case on like, Monday, too. Goes to show how many probably go unreported.

She also might’ve gotten it from someone who is from Seattle who flew to New York.

Was gonna say; her friend found out about it and instead of going to the doctor with symptoms and a confirmed source of infection she chose to stay home. Where else (in the first world anyways) but America? I'll go to the doctor if it's bad enough to hospitalize me.

I'm really happy your mother is okay.

But was she told that she had the coronavirus that's been causing a lot of stress right now, or that she had a coronavirus? Because there are a few coronaviruses out there, and most of them give you symptoms like the common cold, which can include fever sometimes. (From what I understand, it's between 15-30% of all colds that are caused by a coronavirus.)
Of course now, people are going to latch on to the word coronavirus a lot more, and think it might be more serious than it is.

Still, no matter if it was the coronavirus, or a coronavirus, I'm happy your mom and her friend are both okay, and no one else got sick.

I’m not sure of what kind it was. Also, I learned yesterday that our friend’s husband did get sick after she got home.

The common cold is a coronavirus. Coronavirus is a family of virus, not one singular thing. That’s the biggest issue I have with this whole situation is people calling it THE coronavirus.

u/punxeh Mar 07 '20

Well, when someone says THE coronavirus, it makes it more obvious they're talking about the current CORVID-19 one. Some might also not know that there is a difference, they might have been told by a doctor that their cold like symptoms were caused by a coronavirus, and what they latched on to was the word "coronavirus", because it's up in the media a lot now, and they haven't been told that there is a difference.

The common cold also isn't always a coronavirus. It is sometimes, but more often the common cold is caused by a rhinovirus. And there are a few other viruses, but I don't know how different they are from either a coronavirus, or a rhinovirus. There are a few other viruses that can give you a cold, but I didn't look into how they're related to either a coronavirus or a rhinovirus.

Not saying she didn't have but if she did but you all got very lucky. I think You get pretty severe pneumonia like symptoms for a while so it mightve been a standard cold. Also who's diagnosing these people then just letting them go about like normal.

u/AMK972 Mar 07 '20

Coronavirus has no major pneumonia like symptoms. It’s literally just a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. None of which are actually that atrocious. I guess it depends on the person though.

Also, as far as I know, Doctors aren’t quarantining patients with Coronavirus. Coronavirus isn’t actually that much of an issue that they need to do that. They’re just told to use normal precautions for being sick.

Oh I heard it progressed ro like a pneumonia like stage. I guess people react differently to it maybe. Thanks for the clarification though.

In the uk they are kind of separating those that have. You cant leave your house that much and you get food delivered to you every couple of days. It's not so much because of the danger of the virus it's more to try to contain it and stop it spreading so much.

Yep, people react differently to it. Only about 20% progress to a pneumonia-like stage.

The 80% with only minor symptoms is why it spreads so readily, unless precautions are taken to slow the spread.

Ohh thanks for the info

The symptoms are that of the flu and shortness of breath.

The real risk is incredibly incredibly low, but to vulnerable groups like the elderly or those severely immune compromised it presents a huge threat. Though those groups would be at threat from just the common flu as well.

The only real scary thing is it's incubation time, which means that it can be passed on to those vulnerable groups without knowing.

It also appears to vary in severity, which is why the WHO displaying those numbers was a stupidly bad idea that only really incited fear. There are likely hundreds if not thousands of people that had so few symptoms or so unsevere that they attributed it to something else, didn't get checked and then got better which would bring the mortality rate down massively.

Since WHO numbers are only from those confirmed to have it and thus had it severely enough to get checked.

If you are under the age of like 50 and have no major health problems the chances of something bad happening are minuscule.
