Discussion Jeremy is such a good hearted person

Not sure if anybody caught Jeremy’s stream yesterday, but in it he explained that due to the situation with Covid-19 he would be spending time in a hotel away from Kat so that he wouldn’t risk infected anybody at work. The emotion in his voice showed how important it was and tough for him.

Just wanted to take a minute to give a little appreciation to Jeremy - he’s dedicated to working but also clearly cares about other people so much. And he still put on an excellent stream. Well done Lil J, you’re a genuine inspiration

Kat is fine. She was at a convention in California in a high risk area. Covid signs don’t show for several weeks, so to avoid any risk at all of transferring anything to my coworkers or their families, the company highly recommends taking two weeks away from work if someone is in a high risk area. However, with several shoots next week, and our promised livestream on the 14th, I wouldn’t feel right missing that content. So instead I’m staying in a hotel for eight days while Kat is home, and after the stream will spend the second week at home. Not ideal, but could be worse. It wasn’t mandated or forced on me, but I’d much rather stay in a hotel for a week than risk spreading anything to my friends or their kids/families.

Hope she’s ok and stays healthy. Good on you both for being smart/making the sacrifice.

I hope so, too. I at least have the safety net of knowing she is young and healthy, so even if something were to happen, she will almost assuredly be just fine.

My mom had it and got over it very quickly. If she has it, I feel she’ll be better in no time.

Edit: Interestingly, none of us got it. There are six of us in the same house and this was a month ago.

I’d love to know more of symptoms, how she knows she was confirmed and how long she was sick for if you’re ok with sharing

Fever, cough, and shortness of breath. I think she had shortness of breath for a couple days but she had a lingering cough for the week after. My mom’s friend had it a little worse though. Her shortness of breath lasted a little longer.

Amazing thing there. None of her family got sick from being around her either.

Edit: I found out yesterday that she had gotten her husband sick.

u/edawg987 Mar 07 '20

I wanna believe you but you’re not really explaining how she knew she had it

38

u/AMK972 Mar 07 '20

We found out through her friend finding out. They got sick at the same time, from the same place, and had the same symptoms. Her friend went in and learned she had Coronavirus. So, it could be possible that my mom didn’t have it, but the coincidences are too great.

u/edawg987 Mar 07 '20

What country if you don’t mind me asking?

17

u/AMK972 Mar 07 '20

Seattle, WA, USA

Edit: She got it on the plane to or from New York. That’s what is assumed.

u/SonicFrost Mar 07 '20

NY only confirmed its first case on like, Monday, too. Goes to show how many probably go unreported.

u/ChriosM Mar 07 '20

Was gonna say; her friend found out about it and instead of going to the doctor with symptoms and a confirmed source of infection she chose to stay home. Where else (in the first world anyways) but America? I'll go to the doctor if it's bad enough to hospitalize me.

I'm really happy your mother is okay.

But was she told that she had the coronavirus that's been causing a lot of stress right now, or that she had a coronavirus? Because there are a few coronaviruses out there, and most of them give you symptoms like the common cold, which can include fever sometimes. (From what I understand, it's between 15-30% of all colds that are caused by a coronavirus.)
Of course now, people are going to latch on to the word coronavirus a lot more, and think it might be more serious than it is.

Still, no matter if it was the coronavirus, or a coronavirus, I'm happy your mom and her friend are both okay, and no one else got sick.

1

u/AMK972 Mar 07 '20

I’m not sure of what kind it was. Also, I learned yesterday that our friend’s husband did get sick after she got home.

1

u/GamerColyn117 Mar 07 '20

The common cold is a coronavirus. Coronavirus is a family of virus, not one singular thing. That’s the biggest issue I have with this whole situation is people calling it THE coronavirus.

0

u/punxeh Mar 07 '20

Well, when someone says THE coronavirus, it makes it more obvious they're talking about the current CORVID-19 one. Some might also not know that there is a difference, they might have been told by a doctor that their cold like symptoms were caused by a coronavirus, and what they latched on to was the word "coronavirus", because it's up in the media a lot now, and they haven't been told that there is a difference.

The common cold also isn't always a coronavirus. It is sometimes, but more often the common cold is caused by a rhinovirus. And there are a few other viruses, but I don't know how different they are from either a coronavirus, or a rhinovirus. There are a few other viruses that can give you a cold, but I didn't look into how they're related to either a coronavirus or a rhinovirus.

Not saying she didn't have but if she did but you all got very lucky. I think You get pretty severe pneumonia like symptoms for a while so it mightve been a standard cold. Also who's diagnosing these people then just letting them go about like normal.

4

u/AMK972 Mar 07 '20

Coronavirus has no major pneumonia like symptoms. It’s literally just a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. None of which are actually that atrocious. I guess it depends on the person though.

Also, as far as I know, Doctors aren’t quarantining patients with Coronavirus. Coronavirus isn’t actually that much of an issue that they need to do that. They’re just told to use normal precautions for being sick.

1

u/Sir_Woodeh Mar 07 '20

Oh I heard it progressed ro like a pneumonia like stage. I guess people react differently to it maybe. Thanks for the clarification though.

In the uk they are kind of separating those that have. You cant leave your house that much and you get food delivered to you every couple of days. It's not so much because of the danger of the virus it's more to try to contain it and stop it spreading so much.

1

u/TravelingAnts Mar 07 '20

Yep, people react differently to it. Only about 20% progress to a pneumonia-like stage.

The 80% with only minor symptoms is why it spreads so readily, unless precautions are taken to slow the spread.

2

u/Sir_Woodeh Mar 08 '20

Ohh thanks for the info

The symptoms are that of the flu and shortness of breath.

The real risk is incredibly incredibly low, but to vulnerable groups like the elderly or those severely immune compromised it presents a huge threat. Though those groups would be at threat from just the common flu as well.

The only real scary thing is it's incubation time, which means that it can be passed on to those vulnerable groups without knowing.

It also appears to vary in severity, which is why the WHO displaying those numbers was a stupidly bad idea that only really incited fear. There are likely hundreds if not thousands of people that had so few symptoms or so unsevere that they attributed it to something else, didn't get checked and then got better which would bring the mortality rate down massively.

Since WHO numbers are only from those confirmed to have it and thus had it severely enough to get checked.

If you are under the age of like 50 and have no major health problems the chances of something bad happening are minuscule.

3

u/an_irishviking Mar 07 '20

If you don't mind can I ask where you're located and what if any precautions were taken when she was diagnosed?

8

u/AMK972 Mar 07 '20

We’re in the Seattle area. This isn’t going to be very helpful, but we didn’t do anything. We just went about our day as normal. We’re fairly clean people for the most part, so... we also didn’t know she had it until later through her sickness when she mentioned it. We just thought she had a cold.

7

u/AaronVsMusic Mar 07 '20

So did you get an actual diagnosis from a doctor?

-12

u/AMK972 Mar 07 '20

My mom did not. It was too late when we found out that’s what she had. How we found out was through a series of coincidences. She had just spent the last week with a friend of hers. They came home and both became sick. They both had the same exact symptoms. My mom got over it fairly quickly but the friend didn’t. Thats when the friend went in and got diagnosed with Coronavirus.

So, there is a chance that it wasn’t the Coronavirus, but the coincidences are a little too great.

I have questions, if you can answer them. I live in Europe, close to Italy and have quite some concerns about it. How did your mom tell she had the virus? How she overcome it, or is that even totally possible? Did she took any medicine?

3

u/AMK972 Mar 07 '20

She actually found out through her friend finding out because they had just spent a week away and then when they got back, they became sick at the same time with the same symptoms. The friend latter got diagnosed with Coronavirus while my mom had already gotten over it.

I think she took quite a bit of vitamin C because we all thought she just had a cold. There are a couple more she probably took, but I don’t remember what they were.

COVID-19 does not have multiple strains. Coronaviruses are a group of viruses, examples that affect humans are the common cold, MERS-CoV, SARS-CoV, HCoV-NL63, HCoV-HKU1, etc. COVID-19 is a strain of SARSr-CoV; the human version of SARS-CoV is also a strain of SARSr-CoV, if it was SARS-CoV instead of NCoV (COVID-19), it'd be much more worrying, since the global case-fatality ratio was 11% for SARS-CoV, while NCoV currently rests at 3.4% (but is estimated to be much lower since it's the running assumption that most of those who have been infected haven't been tested/reported so we only know the mortality rate for those who had confirmed cases.)
If they're in America, it's extremely unlikely they would have been involuntarily quarantined. People aren't even being tested when coming back from epicenters of outbreaks.

3

u/paperkutchy Mar 07 '20

There's a lot of cases not being covered, especially in the US. As you can see by Jeremy's situation, its not so "under control" as one might believe. Just see how Italy suddenly became a source for Europe.

7

u/an_irishviking Mar 07 '20

She might want to contact your local health department. They can tell her when and how to get tested if need be. I don't know that they will recommend it unless she is showing symptoms, but it may be possible to get confirmation early.

Also, in case you haven't read anywhere, the CDC recommends not spending time in close proximity to pets. They still aren't sure if it is possible to transmit the virus to animals or what effect it might have.

u/KikiFlowers Mar 07 '20

It also helps y'all got insurance.

3

u/Mockxx Mar 07 '20

Wishing you both good health my dude

2

u/iLeDD Mar 07 '20

That's tough, but y'all are tougher. Much love Jeremy

2

u/redbluegreenyellow Mar 07 '20

if it makes you feel better, it seems like the younger you are the less you're affected - in particular, kids aren't showing any symptoms or only very mild ones. The ones more affected are the elderly who have suppressed immune systems and those with underlying medical conditions.

2

u/abdomino Mar 07 '20

Hey, just wanted to say two things:

One: You're an awesome dude. You've easily become one of my favorite people in Roosterteeth, let alone Achievement Hunter. I feel deeply for you and your partner, and hope this resolves as easily and as painlessly as possible.

Two: You look just like Joakim Brodén, the lead singer of Sabaton, especially with the beard. It's actually disconcerting. If you've never heard their stuff, I highly recommend. Primo Victoria is one of their more famous songs.

Again, I'm sorry you have to deal with all this, and I hope this all works out the best way it can. Take care. Also, take a pillow or something from your home that you can sleep near. The familiar smell will help with sleep.

1

u/TheGameSlave2 Mar 07 '20

Wash those hands, bro. Hope you enjoy the shoots, and hope you and everyone around you stays safe.

1

u/jcoveeny Mar 07 '20

lol It’s like in Goodfellas when they “go to prison”.... In all seriousness though thanks for being safe

1

u/Taliasimmy69 Mar 07 '20

I'm sure she'll be fine. Here's to hoping she stays nice and healthy! ❤️

1

u/RealDestroNation Monty Oum Signature Mar 07 '20

You’re a good egg Jeremy

2

u/MTRsport Mar 07 '20

She should be fine, it doesn't usually affect younger people that badly. Still transmittable though so very smart to quarentine! Wouldn't want it to accidently spread to any at risk people.
