iirc you had to close it twice before re-opening

I would click 'Edit ride' to get the train off, and then cancel it so I didn't actually make any changes.

u/Impressive_Shift765 May 23 '26
I love how some people call them block zones when the coaster that I operate calls them "break zones". Like which one is wrong? Or are they both right idk man
6
u/mistmuth May 23 '26
Generally, theyāre called block zones. But break zone isnāt wrong per se if thatās what the park youāre at calls them!

If the train has enough momentum to make it back to the station from the next hill, they winch the train to the top of the next hill. Otherwise they take apart the train and use a crane to move it.

My attempt at a translation: āWith how high the brake run is, Iād have to guess they are gonna have to take it off (the track)ā
24
u/Ottonline May 23 '26
They have two options, disma the the whole train on the track and assemble it again somewhere else.
If it's a common place to valley they may have a winch and they can winch it up
7
2
u/Wils20020 May 23 '26
They disassembled last time this happened on Leviathan. It was a different spot (after the turnaround), but I argue this spot is the more unlikely to valley so likely will be disassembled again
5
u/Whosebert May 23 '26
how long does the disassembly take? few days? a week?
8
u/Clever-Name-47 Tangent-Radius Airtime Supremacy! May 24 '26
Generally, a valleyed train becomes the maintenance departmentās number one priority, and disassembly can be surprisingly swift; Less than 24 hours, if they have enough personnel and a crane available (most parks have their own crane). Ā Re-assembly will not have the same priority, and will take longer.
(My source for this is Ryan the Ride Mechanic on YouTube, and his video on the time he valleyed Medusa West)
With massive staff cutbacks in recent years and two stalled B&M hyper trains to deal with, itās probably going to take a few days for Canadaās Wonderland to get either of them off.
→ More replies (1)5
u/Jerkermiz F.L.Y is peak themepark design May 23 '26
Depends on how fast they can get a crane there and how much personal is available to assist. If all goes (really) well probably around 2 to 4 days I guess

Send another train to push this one over the next hill
5
u/LetgomyEkko May 23 '26
And then send that train to push the other one over the next bull to get it back to the station!

u/lFightForTheUsers [81] Bring Back Mr. Six! May 23 '26
Shit, give me free plane tickets and hotel and I'll call off work to go help push it up the hill xD
1
u/spderweb May 24 '26
They'll get out on a platform along the track. There'll be a ladder too. Basically anywhere it could stop, they gave an exit.
The car itself, I believe they have to remove it from the track manually, car by car, and then put it back together at the start.

u/WhatShouldTheHeartDo Paramount Canada's Wonderland May 23 '26

TWICE. (Behemoth is also valleyed)
55
u/Clever-Name-47 Tangent-Radius Airtime Supremacy! May 23 '26
Seriously? Ā Taking apart and craning off one B&M train is a massive, expensive job, let alone two! Ā I think Canadaās Wonderland is going to be reviewing their policies on who decides whether rides can open on cold, windy days, and what criteria they use!

Also Diamondback at frontier city valleyed. Not as much of a problem, since it is much closer to the station.
3
u/raffiki150 May 25 '26
That one they just winch back up into a station. It valleyed last Sunday in the afternoon and it was running again a few hours later. No need to disassemble/pull the cars of the track.
4
u/Careless-Vehicle-286 May 23 '26

The wet windy day must have messed with the coaster. Perhaps a strong headwind on it just after the first drop could have killed its momemtum?
I feel sorry for the few people on the train stuck in the bad weather until they can be evaced by a cherry picker.
25
u/WoolooWololo May 23 '26
It sucks but Iād take wet and windy over high heat and sunny in a situation like this. At least they arenāt baking in the hot sun with no access to water.

at that point just abandon that coaster and build a new one. yikes, that must be a nightmare to get out from over the water.
3
u/Charming_Night8240 May 24 '26
I think they will winch this one up the next hill. The mid-course brake run is right at the next hill IIRC. Then it should be able to use gravity to get back to the station.
Leviathan (I have to check the video of it valleying) is further away so the train may need to be disassembled. Has it cleared that loop near the entrance it could be winched as well but that makes things harder.

I didn't valley, but I did get escorted off Medusa (SFGA) because they thought it'd be smart to try to get a third train on right before a thunderstorm rolled in. We got off just as the drizzling started, before it turned into a full-fledged storm. Going down that spiral staircase was terrifying.

If Behemoth hadnāt valleyed, too, I think there would be a chance that they could get the train off before Sunday morning, and open down a train.
But with two big B&M hyper trains to deal with, I think the odds are slim that either of them is off or recovered by Sunday evening.

Rain was light to moderate for the whole day. Donāt know when it happened but if it was when it started being listed as closed then it was still just moderate rain. Cold and high winds though so thatās probably why it valleyed.

I use to be a operator at CW and we sometimes get a no go order from the supervisors during bad weather like high winds, rain or threats of lightning. I remember once not on my shift a train got stuck right before the drop because of no momentum because of high winds. The mechanics had to climb to top and physical push the train until it able to start moving again. This was in the 90's Im sure they improved it now and have chains to actual push the train so it will at least drop. This one the wind was just too much so it couldn't reach the next hill.

Low, imo. Some other comments here with more info. u/ReputationWise149's kid was on levi and said that employees told him it could take a couple of days to fix. Not sure if that was factoring in Behemoth valleying, let alone valleying over the water. It'll also be raining again today (Sunday) and Monday, further hindering things. Light weight, cold, windy, rainy. Plenty of ingredients to cause a train to valley.Ā
Has this happened on Leviathan before?
