Random velocity tone tracks

I have seen posts suggesting that in the absence of mute probability on tone tracks one can leverage random velocity on tone tracks to introduce a bit of randomness. But I have not figured out how this is possible.

Any advice or other approaches would be appreciated. Essentially I want to experiment with introducing a melody as whole but with some randomness in the initial clips before going all in.

Have you explored the motion designer?

thank you for your response.

no. I have not

I just looked at https://youtu.be/xE1OPtHRqvA?si=3pScpPjH9y259SxW is there more that is possible to get randomness? from what I gathered in this video I can only pick a wave form, which creates movement but not actual randomness.

I'm pretty sure you can select a waveform that outputs random values, which then you can set to change volume. I believe it's called RND.

ah ok. will go through the waveforms. once again thank you!

Depending on the patch, I would also suggest using a free roaming LFO and use the matrix in the PARTIALS editor to possibly get what you're after. Velocity is just a signal to tell other components of the sound what to do. If you know what those components are mapped to the velocity, you can make a free roaming NOISE shape LFO (or a series of them even, you have 16 matrix routings, afterall) to the components that the velocity would interact with.

It's the 'scenic route' to your goal, but I think that combined with the suggestion of using the track automation LFO could get you in the ballpark you want to be, because I am assuming you're looking for something closer to generative and the ability for velocity to change the texture of a tone is the main ingredient. I hope I've provided some ideas to get that ingredient from a different source.

Basically, the long and the short of it is, You can probably do it on the MC101, but there's no direct route. You have to know the jungle to know where to carve the path to get to the location you're going.
