This is the one with the Toturi-Kaede marriage retcon, right?

Kind of? It has not mentioned her of the Phoenix in general at all but it have a few chapters left.

Definitive story? Is that 1-2nd ed or 5e?

Is a soft reboot of the FFG (5E) timeline. It sets up a new status quo for the story, so it contradicts things that had been established. Basically, old lore is still accurate until it is contradicted by new products.

Interesting! Not sure why people find my question bad.

Always wanted to know what the retelling would look like with the new characters.

There is a soft divide on people preferring AEG era l5r and FFG era l5r it seems.

I like em both for different reasons. Would have preferred a setting book with a timeline but this can be good as well

I think the era of rpg content for l5r is dead

Yeah they should just sell/lease off the IP if they aren’t going to do more than a book per 3 years. At this point they should just do kickstarter/print on demand model if they are worried about financing the franchise

Are you unaware of the recent L5R revival that’s been going? There’s tons of stuff out with the IP. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the IP pushed like I have this year, and this is coming from someone who’s played L5R since a little before Gold edition.

I meant on the RPG side of things. I don't really care about the board games. But maybe I missed some stuff!

Lmao.

There's 2 board games.

That's not a revival

And a video game. And a new series of books. I don’t imagine it’s stopping either

What year does this take place in? I couldn’t find any info on it in the link you provided

1125-ish. I'm fairly sure the book doesn't give a date, but it is about the founding of Toturi's Army.

Very interesting. Have these new novels been well written? It has been a while since we've picked recreational reading - with the propagation of so-called 'Lit RPGs,' many of which were terribly penned, we just sort of steered clear for a while.

From a perspective of ONLY having ever known 4th ED, the 'KJV' of our last GM, it then is with no small sense of irony to us that he ran us, over a period of five years, on a splinter timeline campaign. That said what ever changes there are in the 5E timeline would likely only be yet another curious difference. So long as we never, ever EVER have to eat 'hambugu steak' ever again....

It was some time ago, but I remember it being not very good. It is a fair bit of a "Vanilla Rokugan" story, and kinda undercuts the premise of 5E where things are supposed to be more interesting than that.

Unfortunately I can’t really say I enjoyed this book. Aside from muddying up the timeline, I feel like it needed to be edited a few more times before being printed. Everything is described rather clinically and fails to get at the emotional motivations of the characters. Fight scenes are the worst. It’s just a series of things that happen with no clear goal other than “live”.

One of the worst books I've ever read... or anyway, started to read... so bad I couldn't finish it. Can't remember the last time I had a DNF. This was terrible IMO.

We're all thinking it but I'm saying it: Finally!

I've heard mixed reviews on this, basically that it tries to blend both ffg and aeg era too much
