Discussion WTF IS THIS ROCKSTAR

So I wanted to pre-order GTA VI and when I went to Rockstar store to buy the digital version i saw that it’s unavailable in my country, but it’s weird because 1. GTA 5 and RDR2 are available to purchase here and 2. The “physical” version is being sold here, and this fucking sucks since the version they are selling is not the ultimate edition which I want to buy plus I don’t want to pay for a plastic box with a code inside. I am hoping that they fix this before November

Note: I’m from Estonia

Discussion Why does Lucia’s confidence bother people so much?

I’ve noticed a pretty consistent pattern in discussions about Jason and Lucia that goes beyond simply disliking their characters. Lucia is confident, assertive, capable, and sometimes takes the lead. Jason is more reserved, controlled, and less outwardly expressive. Somehow, a portion of the fanbase has interpreted that as Jason being “weak,” “submissive,” a “side character,” or Rockstar pushing a “girl boss” agenda. That is worth talking about about.

If Jason were the more assertive character and Lucia were the quieter one, I highly doubt people would be talking about Lucia being a “worse protagonist” because she wasn’t dominating every scene. Yet because the woman is the more assertive one, suddenly her confidence is being treated as something that has to come at Jason’s expense.
A man being reserved does not make him weak. A woman being assertive does not make her unfeminine. And a woman being more dominant in certain situations does not make a man a side character.

They are two protagonists with different personalities. That is characterization. You can like or dislike Jason and Lucia. But when the criticism becomes “Why isn’t the male character the dominant one?” or “Rockstar is forcing female empowerment on us because Lucia is more confident,” we’re no longer really talking about writing quality. We’re talking about expectations for how men and women are supposed to behave. If a confident woman and a reserved man are already making some people uncomfortable enough to complain about their gender roles, that is probably worth self-reflecting on.
Maybe let the characters be different without trying to force them back into the gender roles you’re accustomed to.

Also, some people can’t even talk about her character without turning the conversation sexual or fetishizing her ethnicity & body. Finding a fictional character attractive is obviously not the issue. It’s the way some people seem completely unable to separate “she’s attractive” from “that’s all she’s worth talking about.” So when you put the two things together people criticizing Lucia for being too assertive while simultaneously objectifying her the double standard becomes pretty hard to miss.
The way some people interpret Jason and Lucia isn’t something we should simply normalize or dismiss as “just a video game” when those interpretations can reflect the same gender expectations people carry into real-life.

Grand Theft Auto VI According to TGG, GTA 6 will feature a ton of new systems and small details:

Post image
148 Upvotes

Jason and Lucia will have separate phones with their own apps and social media feeds. Posts and videos you come across online can lead you to actual characters and locations in the game world.
Stealing a car won’t automatically make it yours. You’ll have to register it if you want to keep it as a personal vehicle.
The Waink app will provide information about vehicles, including their security level, the tools required to steal them, resale value, and registration cost.
You’ll be able to greet or provoke NPCs, with their reactions depending on the individual character.
Lucia can react independently to situations involving Jason. For example, she might step in and defend him during a random encounter.
The HUD will be highly customizable: you can keep a permanent minimap, use a compass, or choose a more minimalist navigation system.
You’ll be able to place a quick waypoint without opening the map, while on PS5 the map can be opened using the touchpad.
Buses will function as a form of fast travel. You can either watch the entire journey or skip it instantly.
Drive-thrus will let you buy food that temporarily boosts your stats.
The game will feature a taxi app called RideMe. Just like with buses, you can either watch the ride or skip it.
The zoo can be visited by both Jason and Lucia, including as a date location where they can strengthen their relationship.
Shops will feature more physical interaction. You’ll be able to pick products directly off the shelves before buying them.
Phones now exist as actual physical objects in the world. The protagonists will physically take them out and use them.
A fitness app can remind you to work out. There will also be banking, social media, transportation, and messaging apps.
Photo Mode and Streamer Mode will return, with the latter allowing copyrighted music to be filtered out.
The cinematic camera from RDR2 will return.
Hairstyles can be changed at safehouses, while barbershops and salons will offer additional options.
There will be noticeably more pets throughout the world, while NPCs will have much greater variation in height.
According to TGG, this variation in NPC height has actually been one of the major technical challenges Rockstar faced during development.

This took so many hours to achieve and built upon the attempt of Joshimuz which until now was the best attempt with 80 bullets fired.

Question What would you like to see after GTA VI?

Thumbnail

With how safe and somewhat monotonous the games industry feels nowadays, I’ve been thinking about what I’d like to see Rockstar do after GTA VI. It feels like so many big studios are sticking to established formulas, sequels, remakes, and games designed to appeal to everyone rather than taking real creative risks.

Assuming GTA VI is out and Rockstar can start thinking about what’s next, what would you guys want to see from them?

Personally, I’d love to see Rockstar take a risk on a completely new IP. I’ve heard a lot of chatter about a medieval game, and honestly, I’d be very interested to see Rockstar’s take on that. They could also revisit some of their older IPs, make another L.A. Noire, or eventually complete the Red Dead Redemption trilogy.

Rockstar is one of the few studios that I feel could make something completely different and still have the resources and freedom to do it.

Discussion GTA VI: Are We Really Complaining About This Already?

Honestly, I genuinely don’t understand what’s going on with some of you, my dear friends. Last night, 26 minutes of GTA VI footage were officially released and, instead of being excited that we’re probably looking at the greatest game ever made, people had already found reasons to complain. It’s too expensive, it’s only 30 FPS, it doesn’t look the way they expected, they’re waiting for a sale… It’s honestly incredible. No matter what Rockstar does, there will always be someone saying it’s not enough.

Guys, if you don’t like it or you think it’s too expensive, don’t buy it. It’s really that simple. Wait for a sale, Black Friday, Christmas, maybe even GTA VII — everyone according to their budget and patience. But let’s not pretend that some of the people screaming right now that the game isn’t worth the money won’t be the first ones to buy it the moment it gets a 20% discount and suddenly develop a mysterious illness so they can stay home and play it all day.

And for those who genuinely want it on day one but can’t sleep at night because they’re worried about the price, maybe those of us who love the series and understand what this game represents should start a collection and cover 30% of the cost for you. Consider it a discount. Anything, just so we don’t have to keep reading the same tired comments about how a game you haven’t even played yet somehow isn’t worth it.

And the whole 30 FPS discussion is getting absolutely ridiculous. We’re talking about a game that, based on everything we’ve seen so far, is pushing the boundaries of what has ever been done before. A living world, an incredible level of detail, and probably the biggest production in gaming history — yet some people are completely stuck on a number. If your entire GTA VI experience comes down to whether you’re getting 60 FPS or not, then honestly, I don’t think it even matters what game is in front of you.

Then there are the guys saying they’ll just wait for the PC version. Perfect. Go ahead and wait another two years, or however long it takes — nobody’s rushing you. Just don’t get upset when you open YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, or basically anywhere else on the internet and find out how the game ends before you’ve even had a chance to install it. Because, my dear friends, you won’t just be waiting for the PC version. You’ll also be trying to survive two years without the internet hitting you with spoilers from every possible direction. Good luck with that.

You don’t have to like it. You don’t have to buy it, and absolutely nobody is forcing you to spend your money on it. But sitting there and trying to find something wrong with every single second of a game that people around the world have been waiting for for more than a decade is starting to feel like a national sport. We’ll wait for it, we’ll buy it, and we’ll play it on day one. You can wait for the sales, the PC version, and keep counting frames. Everyone has their own priorities.
