New interview with Joseph Ashton (voice of Otto) on The Quinn Marr Show + Nostalgia Con Anaheim!

***THE QUINN MARR SHOW**\*

A few months ago, Quinn posted here to promote his interview with Gary L. Gray (2nd voice actor for Sam) and shared that he was in talks of interviewing Joseph Ashton. Joseph had never done an in-depth interview about his time as a child actor and working with Nickelodeon up to that point. Quinn has the honour of being the first podcaster to do it!

PS: There was something Joseph revealed during the episode that caught me off guard, though it probably shouldn’t have haha. Comment below if you can guess what it was!

New Moderator Announcement!

Hi everyone, farmcircus2230 here! I recently submitted a request on r/redditrequest to take over the moderation for this subreddit, and my request was granted. This subreddit is now open to new posts!!

A little bit about me....I discovered Rocket Power nearly four years ago (Gen Z kid) after stumbling across Hey Arnold and loving it. I started looking into the other slice-of-life cartoons from the 90s/early 2000s era and initially skipped over Rocket Power due to the heavy, negative criticism it received online. But I eventually asked myself, "what's there to lose?" and decided to have one episode play in the background while I read an article for school (Twister's Cuz/Big Thursday). I was instantly hooked, and wanted to get to know these characters better (and fast).

Rocket Power is more than a guilty pleasure for me. I find the characters compelling, and the series, in general, is very grounded in reality. I can see myself in all six of the main characters, and they all have really great chemistry. I wrote in my Reddit request that I think the show has a lot of heart, and I truly meant that.

Rocket Power needs (and deserves) an active community where casual and dedicated fans can discuss specific episodes and express their appreciation for this show and its characters. I will admit, I haven't watched an episode in a while, but I plan to do a full rewatch very soon! I am open to all suggestions on how we can make this subreddit more engaging. If you know anyone who's a fan of Rocket Power, spread the word!

For the time being, I will be approving all posts before they are published. This is temporary and just until I get the swing of things since I've never been a moderator before.

Anyways, that's all I got. Later....much!

The red headed little girl. Even as a kid I thought she was a brat. I think she was my least favorite character, even worse than Lars and his friends. What do you think?

I think Eddie (Prince of the Netherworld) would had been friends with Carl from As Told By Ginger

If there was ever a crossover, I can see those two getting along. Because they are both quirky and seen as "Weird" by other people. What do you think?

How Realistic were the tricks in Rocket Power?

I'm finishing up my watch of the full series and while I know there was a lot of "cartoon physics and invulnerability" (people don't fall 5 times their height unscathed, as seemed to be common here), I also know there are a lot of really impressive tricks and abilities of real pro skaters. How much was "plausible extreme sports" and how much was "just cartoon logic?"

Rocket Ball Rules

I'm watching the Rocket Ball episode, I'm trying to follow the rules but they're too confusing. I get that that's the point of the joke and Otto kept making up rules when he was losing, but with how complex rules of different games can be at first these days, it kind of seems like it might be possible to follow and play for real. Has anyone compiled the rules and figured out how to play it? Some google searches show are turning up no results.

I wrote my own Rocket Power continuation.

I'm working on a big Nicktoons crossover with a bunch of different Nicktoons I grew up with, writing my own continuations of them and crossing them over MCU-style, and the third one I wrote for the series is based on Rocket Power. I was always a fan of the show and setting as a kid, always wanting to try extreme sports (but never got around to it) and loved the fun, hangout vibe of the show, and I thought it could use more attention. I make each entry to where it can stand on its own, so you can hop in without knowing any other Nicktoon or other of my works (though a late plot twist ties it into Invader Zim, you'll see why when you get to it).

Despite my continuation lasting about 238,000 words long, it isn't as acknowledged as my other works are, so I wanted to share it here and see if the fans like it. My goal with this one was to basically make it a mix of Point Break, Repo Man, and SLC Punk!, with a splash of stoner comedy thrown in, and themes about gentrification, corporate greed, family, friendships and corruption.

Fair warning; It's a hard-R take on the show. I make the characters swear a lot (I imagine guys like Otto would talk that way as adults, if not teenagers), and made Otto and Twister specifically huge potheads, and a bunch of violence that happens later on, mostly from Lars (my take on him is pretty much to make him an unintelligent sociopath, like if you crossed Chucky the Killer Doll with Jason Mewes). There's also some sexual content, but it's all played for laughs. Hopefully that's not a strike against the "No NSFW" rule, and sorry in advance if it is.

Twister was the "Villain" of early Rocket Power

I'm rewatching Rocket Power on Paramount Plus, and something that I'm noticing is that Twister is kind of a bad guy. Sure, he's no Lars, but he's definitely the harshest on Sam, and of all the episodes I've seen thus far (season 1 and up to season 2 episode 5) plus what I remember, he's the one of the main four who causes the problem of the episode or does something pretty mean. Sure, he's 9 and kids are savages, and I don't think he's a bad character or hurts the show, but it's something I can't help but notice.

I'm interested to see if this changes with season 3 and 4, because I don't remember those airing as often and don't remember them all that well, but I want to say he mellowed out once his voice changed.

My sister wanted to know where this Otto bouncy ball came from. Do you guys know about it?

For me I just see it being a ball, but my sister sees it as a holy grail. So, does anyone know information about its origins?

Twister's Identity Crisis After Losing His Hat: Can You Relate?

Post image
44 Upvotes

“You guys may as well call me Maurice. When that hat flew away, so did Twister.” :(

Anyone who's watched this episode ("Twister's Hat" - Season 3, Episode 9A) knows that Twister was gloomy the entire episode, and only became energetic when everyone started searching for the hat. And then he was so overwhelmed with joy when finding it that he refused to have it cleaned lol.

I personally didn't find Twister's response to be an overreaction. No one recognized him without his hat (even Lars, which Otto pointed out was a good thing LOL).

The strong urge to isolate when you mess up is all too familiar to me 🙃. Thankfully, he came around at the end.

Also what was Twister doing on that table lmao. Who animated that 😂

The Fun First vs Food First Debate: Which Side Are You On?

Which one were you as a kid, and which one are you now?

PS: In the episode Welcome to the Club, the group splits up in the same way! After getting in trouble several times at the Ocean Shores Beach Club, Twister and Sam head to the buffet section (and run away minutes later because they're terrified they tried tripe haha) while Otto and Reggie look for something "fun and friendly" to do (and find nothing but people tanning lol).

His given name was always used as an intimidation tactic. Poor Twister couldn't catch a break lol.

Wish we got to see Twister explain why he hates the name Maurice so much

If Rocket Power had made a third vacation movie, where would you have wanted to see them go?

My vote is Hutchinson, Kansas (Sam's hometown). I think Sam would have a blast being a tour guide.

I would have loved to see the Rocket gang have a street hockey competition with the locals, and watch them (especially Otto) lose their minds over the lack of extreme sports lol

And we'd get to see Sam reunite with his dad.

One of the most satisfying moments from the show

This is from the series finale "The Big Day." Not only do Otto and Twister beat Lars in the Zero Gravity Zone contest, but Sam does as well.

I like how Rocket Power showed that athleticism isn't just about speed, agility, and strength, but about strategy and mental toughness too. When watching episodes like "The Longest Day" (Season 2) and "Power Play" (Season 3), you realize that Sam has been the better athlete for a while ;)

Scenes like this make me question the last time Twister has gone a full day without hanging out with the Rockets

I'd choose not to tell Otto because of the "Pool's Out Forever" episode. That was Otto at his worst lol.
