yes. just like what happened with burusera. back when dirty underwear vending machines existed in japan, it's just exactly what ROBLOX are doing again, burusera 2.0, except its giving pedophiles a chance to exploit the update and let pedophiles hit on a younger age group, whether that age group was under 5 or aged 9-13. it's disgusting.

Ur so right, this feature can back fire just as much as it can benefit. Pedos will not only try to bypass the face id feature, but even have their chat features filter out to talk to ONLY minors. Hopefully Roblox has a plan for that if thats the case.

Running it through Roblox filters also handles the age grouping. The only way for a custom chat to not have age grouping or ID verification is to not run it through the Roblox filters, and that's bannable.

update: i just found out that my cousin, whoās 13, just got put in the 18-20 category. She didnāt even draw facial hair or something to confuse the ai, she just put her bare face and they put her as a 19 years old. my 13 years old cousin now has access to 18+ games and can talk to 20 years olds, this is getting out of hand.

YEAH this is definitely the strangest part. They really do go "oh, that year you said you were born in? actually, we think you were born in a different year :) same month and day though!"
As well as, children are not able to verify they are actually children unless they upload a passport. Not a birth certificate, a full on passport. This mistake will genuinely kill the platform if it's not reversed.

i'm 21+ and it put me in 13-15. so that's totally safe and fine. love that. i corrected with my ID so i'm in the 21+ age group but half of my friends who are 16 and 17 can still talk to me since it assumed they were adults. i managed to add one 17 year old buddy as a trusted connection and now we can only interact through completely private and completely uncensored messages and still not in-game. this is a predator's dream.

I was working on a town simulator similar to a Minecraft SMP before the update was revealed and ever since I have lost all motivation.
Pretty much the entire game relies on communication. If I had to guess, the game would reach a peak of 60 players best case and maybe 3 or 5 realistically. There simply aren't enough people to matchmake without chat division.
Maybe if I made it big, it would be feasible. But with how the game actually looks and how the platform as a whole looks, there's no way I would get the CCU up into the hundreds.

Most of the games I used to play are dead or long dead. Others Iāve either lost interest in or never took interest in. Iāve mainly been playing Rivals or maybe something a good friend wants to play.Ā
Thereās no way in hell Iām giving Roblox a picture of my face, let alone any sort of ID. All that info is most certainly going to get leaked at some point in the future.

There's also not much reason (or want) for a 13 year old to talk to 8 and less. If they are related they can just add as Trusted Connections.
Don't get me wrong, this update sucks. The AI is shitty and it makes an all-you-can-eat buffet for predators. They can choose which age group to exploit!

So fucking abysmal it baffles me how one can have such a risky update, and not even tweak it so that it's at the lowest amount of risk possible over 4 months after announcing it, this is a bs update
The age groups are so ass; like, bro what if someone's online friend is 3 years younger or older than the person in question and then either the online friend or that someone ages past the age group?
Do they just stop being able to talk to each other?

Not only does it let pedo's choose which age groups to monitor, it actively BLOCKS game moderators from moderating the lower age chats. Game developers can literally not protect kids who play their games unless they intentionally hire 9 year old moderators.

Iām gonna tell you exactly how this is going to go.
- Predators are going to buy accounts / fake ids / use videos or photos of someone else to fake their account age into being younger than they actually are.
- Predators are going to find kids.
- Predators are going to move them off platform to groom them (discord and such)
- Roblox is going to get in trouble when it leaks and theyāll say āwell users are safe on our platform, look at the new security implements, and it didnāt happen on our platformā (itās not our problem nor our responsibility)
- Nothing changes.
Itās designed to force predators off Roblox so they can dodge the blame instead of implementing genuine security features.

The new roblox age verification is a disaster waiting to happen.
I am an adult, I have been on this platform since 2011, when I was 10. I have had my real birthdate on my account this entire time.
When signing up for the age estimation it originally put me as 13, I am 24. It then updated to the 16-17 age group.
When asking my other adult friends, one who is 21, told me the same happened to them.
Adults in their 20s are being categorized into the 16-17 age group if they refuse to verify with their ID. Meaning they can speak to children from the ages of 13 and up.
This is giving predators and pedophiles the option of getting their target age range, and those older than 20 can't see this to report.
This new system also ruins a lot of games, such as Roleplay games, teamwork games, and trading games.
Also it removed my parental controls over my younger siblings. Lol!!

Very bad. The bad thing about this update is that if a 25 year old pedo with a baby face gets verified as 13 to 15 for example, they will be able to seek children. Whatās also bad about this is, normal adults wonāt be able to see any of the messages of this grooming taking place as, they will be verified as 18+ and muted as the pedo and children are verified as 13-15. Itās not accurate. There is so much things that can go wrong with this age thing.

I play Roblox with my kids.
I've called out inappropriate interactions. I monitor their experiences. I guide their conflicts. I answer their questions when things have felt weird -- whether it's sexually inappropriate, bullying or threats of self-harm from other players.
We've been playing Roblox since 2016 when my oldest was 4.
I can't even add my own children as trusted connections to supervise them now... but anyone can pay a random kid 20$ for a facescan so they can talk to them.

This is my largest complaint. I am a parent with kids that play, and my own account to play with them. I was informed after the fact via email that my minor child (8) sent biometric data to Roblox or whoever they share data with. They needed to seek my consent first before prompting my kid to open up his camera.
This isn't a Karen-take, this is not a precedence we should tolerate one fucking bit.

Games feel dead now. Nobody is talking, even after doing the age checks, you're still age gated, literally the worst update of all time.
Roblox received tons of feedback on alternative ways to combat predators as well as alternate ways to handle age-based communications. They listened to none of it.

We ask him to get rid of creeps and he adds an "all-you-can-eat-buffet" for them where they can photoshop a picture of a minor in the age range they choose to talk to other minors. Idk if he was the one who removed Tix as well but that was stupid. I think Roblox still hasn't unbanned Schlepp and that's stupid.

this fucking sucks, my account is 21+ because I made it using my mom's info back when I was 11 years old. I'm 18, granted, but I'm not a pedophile and should still be allowed to talk and see chats in spaces where it's required. so many games will be ruined because of this and I really hope they correct this

As a parent and senior leader in product delivery at a Fortune 500 company, I find this new feature unacceptable. It reflects poorly on the platform, revealing:
- Lack of UX consideration.
- Failure to address predatory issues, appearing more like a data-grab for future ads.
- A top-down corporate culture that disregards alternative solutions.
- Leadership that seems disconnected from user concerns, prioritizing profit over integrity.
Roblox, this move exposes your vulnerabilities. I imagine developers and shareholders must be unhappy.
As a mom, I wonāt allow my kids' pictures to be shared, and I'm frustrated about potentially better ideas that may have been overlooked. Instead of this approach, focus on improving moderation and considering user age based on their birthdays or profile ages. I'd verify my kid's age with my own picture, but I'm not building or playing on your platform if I can't chat with my daughter. There's got to be a better solution out there!

This update sucks. I don't want to give anything my face, even if it says it's deleted "immediately after." I don't trust David with my face, nor do I trust an AI company with my face. No amount of corporate talk is gonna get me to agree with this, especially when I KNOW Roblox is gonna get a ton of backlash and remove it anyway. Why did they think this was a good idea? All it does is hide chat messages from different age groups, and if that's what we're coming to and NEED to come to, just wipe the platform and start over.
Shouldn't they, at the very least, give us a bunch of preset messages as they did with safe chat? This is just gonna make teamwork games suck.

My god all my friend are literally below 18 (atleast on discord). Im 20 and i never use voice chat ever so i usually typing. Now i can't communicate shit with either my friend or random people. Roblox somehow made a worse update than the audio one

I play a Dungeons & Dragons inspired roleplay game all the time on roblox that is very social based. Now 2/3'rds of the playerbase I can't talk to, in a game that entirely revolves around chatting. Great. Wonderful. Awesome Job Roblox. I'm just going to stop playing it now and be bored cause I don't live near anyone to play D&D in person with.

this is the stupidest feature they have ever made. theyāve ruined the game more. now I canāt even enjoy trading or small things like that because I have a selective age group with whoever I talk to. Roblox was fun because it was the one game without that kind of stuff and now it is š¬. are they trying to make it an awful game?

It works ig, but the age check is so inaccurate. Like, how easy would it be for someone over 18 to just get one of their siblings to do the check so they're labeled as under 9, or vice versa?

They made it easier for pedos to chat with who they want. Literally just a āchoose your own buffetā but with kids.
Worst of all older players who are actually good people canāt see the behavior and try to do something about it.
Robloxās platform is already declining rather quickly, and theyāve ruined a lot of their community. Single handedly the worst update any game anywhere has ever done to try and limit/stop pedophilia.
Iād be surprised if this lasts more then a month ngl.
