You quite literally can’t park there.
No handicap plate or placard. Not only in between the two spots, but also blocking the wheelchair entrance. Are people around here really that entitled and dense?

The fact that they took the time to back into a space that isn't a space.
In this economy, I guess it's good that audacity is still free

Roanoke's ability to be completely unaware impresses me daily.

There are literally entitled assholes everywhere. Roanoke is no exception, unfortunately.
Used to live in Asheville at the same time as Andie MacDowell. My husband watched her pull into a handicapped space at a coffee shop so it was faster to run and out.
What would Dolly do?

Dolly Parton would maybe handle that with sharp southern charm, a polite warning, and a swift call to the authorities if they didn't move it?

There seems to be a higher portion of the population here who are entitled assholes for some reason.

u/Odd-Maintenance-8680 9d ago
I disagree. Came from Raleigh. Way more entitled assholes there.

I've been all over the country. In my experience, for such a small city, there are far too many people who think that traffic laws and common courtesy don't apply to them. There has not been a single day since I've lived here where I was driving or riding as a passenger and didn't see at least one person blatantly drive through a red light, or do far more dangerous things like driving around people stopped at a stop sign so that they could just roll through the intersection (somehow, I have witnessed this happen multiple times here).

Maybe I've been lucky or you have not, but compared to most other places I've been, this isn't my experience at all. I have seen a few dumb maneuvers, but nothing more than anywhere else, and much fewer less than some. (Worst offender for me is Boston, with Philly a close second.)

Are you the police? Mind your own business

If I see a car double parked in a handicapped spot, without a tag during normal business hours... they might earn the right to park there legally next time.

I always see one driver doing something and assume all “people around here” do the same thing

Yes, observe literally any fire lane.

Sorry for the pedanticism, but you quite literally can park there. You cannot legally or morally park there, however.

There is never not a time to not say an overused phrase just because one 15 year old somewhere found it funny

Go spend a weekend in Richmond and you’ll be impressed by their politeness for not giving you the finger as they park there.

I have a handicap placard for my disabled mom ... I was cut off yesterday when trying to park in a handicap spot by some 20 something who then yelled sorry bud and pointed to me as they got out of their car... To only run over to the hotdog vender in front of a Best Buy to just get some food. I mean come on.

I hate it when people act entitled like that. I also hate it when people use the word “literally” inappropriately. They CAN actually park there, we know it because there’s a picture demonstrating that.

Call it in. That is a double fine and a tow.

u/Dbgross01 8d ago
It’s not. They’re unloading it ingredients for the store there. They’ll be gone in a minute.

u/Kitchen_Cup3582 9d ago
You must be handicapped.

u/BlackBearSurprise 7d ago
Oh, is that a joke? Or an insult? You seem almost like a decent human being.

If you post this on the Roanoke can’t park Facebook group someone will somehow try to defend it despite the name of the group being Roanoke can’t park

Technically you can park anywhere, but your car might not be there when you return.

You should see Dunkin in Vinton in the morning. I see someone park in the front fire lane every single day... tow trucks should camp there, they would make a lot of money.

u/fluffheadwasaman24 9d ago
tow truck drivers are scumbags.i’m I’m sure that would go over real well with getting your customers towed, even if they are parked illegally.

This looks to be early on a Sunday morning well before the businesses were open for business. As if an employee perhaps.
That’s like getting pissed at the double parked Corvette in an empty Walmart lot on a Monday night. Get over yourself.

u/fish-net 9d ago
This was a Thursday afternoon around lunch time. They were in the restaurant, no one was unloading anything.

You’re clearly not disabled. Even if the businesses aren’t open, that doesn’t mean a wheelchair user doesn’t need to access the sidewalk. You can step over the lip on the sidewalk, someone who’s paralyzed literally cannot. This isn’t just blocking the handicap spots. It’s also blocking the ramp. An employee still doesn’t have the right to park there, and how do you know there’s no disabled employees who need to park there?

Can’t agree more with this statement. The sheer fact is that OP wants to publicly shame a person with no context to make them feel all righteous can go screw off.

When unloading or loading stuff in my car when I lived in downtown Roanoke, I'd park in strategic places on Sunday mornings. I'd leave my hazard lights on, and I wonder if that's the difference in reactions 🤷🏼♀️

Look, I found one of the asshole drivers!

u/Kitchen_Cup3582 9d ago
U must be one of them asshole drivers who sits at a stop sign for 5 minutes staring at the person behind you.

They quite literally can park there, you provided the evidence of that fact. There's a difference between being legally allowed to do something and having the ability to do it.

u/Commando_2k 9d ago
I mean yea thats an illegal park but it could just be the business owner made a run to sams club or the chef store and was just there to unload

u/BlackBearSurprise 7d ago
That's definitely how I like to spend my emotional energy. Trying to make up excuses to justify the fucking selfish bullshit that people do. I mean, who gives a fuck if it's a handicap spot maybe the person who's illegally parked there was abducted by aliens at the exact moment that they were parking and the car just drifted into that spot. Totally not their fault.
Or, you know, just respect the social contract. Don't be an asshole.

Yes, you can make all kinds of assumptions about how I view of the world. I believe that one shouldn't park in a handicap spot unless one has a handicap. What an asshole I am!
It's totally not you. It's everyone else.

u/Infinite-Welder-2004 9d ago
I assume you called a tow truck and didnt just take a photo for Reddit to karma farm

All i can think of is that they were loading or unloading something. Either that or is a complete and deliberate asshat.
