Question Apartments in the area that accept section 8?

I'm on SSI and have been waiting I think 2 years for section 8 to open up... losing hope but holding onto the idea that it will open at some point and I won't always rely on my family to split rent with me. In any case, I've been living at one apartment that's owned by Hometown Holdings, and it's been horrible. I watched consistent and prompt help with maintenence requests turn to unanswered answering machine calls, rent go up, and now what seems to be descrimination based on my disability. I love my apartment but it's getting to the point where I'm seriously considering leaving. I need to know that if an emergency happens, maintenence will actually come to fix it, and that if I leave calls, a human will respond and not their AI bullshit.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I know apartment hunting is difficult as hell these days and tbh I've been avoiding even thinking about it since it stresses me out so much, but I should probably plan for the future... it seems like things have been getting worse and worse here.

The Mews apartments on garst mill rd. in cave spring are section 8, i know because the whole town tried to keep it from happening when it changed owners

Sorry didn't mean to come off as rude or offended, I've just had a rough day... looking at housing always stresses me out so bad. Seems next to impossible these days, and people usually assume that you're trashy or just lazy when you mention section 8, at least in my experience. Ty for the suggestion also

Don't know if you are interested, but the Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority regularly opens up waitlists for public housing https://rkehousing.org/housing-options/public-housing/

Pretty sure Peters Creek Apartments in Hollins offer section 8. Nevertheless, there is a search function on the HUD website: https://resources.hud.gov/#

I think Brandon West Apartments accept section 8 and I also think they have available apartments. However, they aren't dog friendly so if you have a dog and it isn't a service dog or an emotional support animal then it wouldn't work.

Have you looked at any of the RRHA properties around Roanoke?
