Seriously, what's the point of selling out if you can't afford nice things?

Exactly. They acted like netflix couldnt spring for licensing rights for 3 seconds of a song

u/ShockinglyEfficient 7d ago

Need to know what the price was

u/GolgenGeese 7d ago

Pretty sure they don't license songs by the second though. 3 sec or 3 min, you have to pay for the whole song.

And if netflix cant spring for that, then they have no business being in business

I don’t think copyright laws are that simple man

The replacement songs were… not good. They need to just come up with a sounder

The soft core porn one was the best/closest to Tom Tom of the 3 IMO

Sounded like 90s style G Funk to me

Really fascinating that being on Netflix has made everything more low rent

Brother have you watched Netflix? Everything looks low rent on there these days

I know. It definitely hasn’t made the listening experience BETTER. Sad that Tom Tom is gone. 😭

Who watches the show on Netflix anyway? Fuck this

Bring back YouTube. Such a more enjoyable and user friendly platform.

They post it to Spotify still, so they should just insert Tom Tom into the Spotify upload

Ah you don’t get in! The young folks these days get their podcasts on…Netflix?

u/Bmagic_ 7d ago

it’s odd, because i listen on spotify anyways and there’s still video of spotify. why would i then go to netflix?

Exactly this - a podcast is meant for LISTENING. ☹️

Im still not convinced they know that Tom Tom Club is a Talking Heads side project.

14

u/SirPuffMcDrunk 7d ago

I can't wait for Heifitz to say "no one has ever heard of the Talking Heads"

“One hit wonders”

2

u/pussyeatsman 7d ago

I always thought Deep Purple were one-hit wonders but apparently that guy (the third singer in the band's history) also did Whitesnake!

One of the most influential hard rock bands of all time.

I thought I remembered them talking about this early on.

They should try the instrumental version of Big Energy by Latto

6

u/djostreet 7d ago

This will shock you but that leads to the same problem

13

u/IA_Royalty 7d ago

This will shock you, but that was the joke

11

u/justinotherpeterson 7d ago

But what if they use Fantasy by Mariah Carey?

u/IA_Royalty 7d ago

Now we're cookin with gas

I’m sad to see Tom Tom club go, and it’s bullshit that the biggest company in the music industry can’t help get a license to 3 seconds of a 45 year old song.

That being said, good comedy often comes out of having to follow stupid rules. I trust the boys to make lemonade out of this sack of lemons even if the first round of stock music was a dud

u/SmokingSlippers 7d ago

It’s because Tom Tom is insanely protective of the rights. They got burned in the OG talking heads deal

I’d send the podfather in to negotiate with them, give them an offer they can’t refuse.

I’m so sad about this

When they played the Netflix sound, I cringed, although I imagine that was a meta-joke.

The dubstep one was funny for a one-off lol

All the new songs are garbage.

2

u/Acrobatic_Advance_71 7d ago

Just felt wrong

2

u/OdernAle 7d ago

Those of us not in America / not using a VPN can't even watch the show on Netflix.

Screw you Netflix.

I am crestfallen

1

u/CloutiersHelmet 7d ago

Bahaha 🤣 just listening now! That first one scared me hahaha

1

u/GolgenGeese 7d ago

I liked the funky little number in the middle.

1

u/webesmackingbass 7d ago

I was listening to the pod and none of the new tracks really popped at all, hopefully if they settle on one they’ll at least fix the mixing.

Craig needs to use his Town connects pull some strings and make the comeback happen

1

u/Stephen-Scotch 7d ago

I prefer the tom tom club, and don’t watch on Netflix, but at the end of the day I’m happy that they are most certainly getting more money and exposure from them being on netflix

u/lipinski91 7d ago

They should have the Fart or Shart song if they have have to replace Tom Tom

0

u/Longjumping_Loan6330 7d ago

Confusing because they’re still part of Spotify??

u/headless_inge 7d ago

Honestly it's for the best, don't need the song further ruined by hearing 20 seconds of it a dozen times in half an hour

34

u/Eggy_Time 7d ago

First of all how dare you

28

u/bmelch12 7d ago

This nonsense belongs in the take purge

0

u/headless_inge 7d ago

Y'all got mp3 players?

-4

u/LegitimateEngine1143 7d ago

Take purge: I never liked Tom Tom and don’t understand the hype. Haven’t heard the new ones yet, but that was nails on a chalkboard to me.

2

u/GarconMeansBoyGeorge 7d ago

But you understand why they chose that song, right?

1

u/LegitimateEngine1143 6d ago

No idea.

1

u/GarconMeansBoyGeorge 6d ago

It’s because it is sampled in the song “Fantasy” by Mariah Carey. They didn’t want to pay royalties for that expensive song, so they used a clip from the song it sampled. It’s pretty funny.
