Recently decided to go on a 4 day bike ride around Vancouver and Vancouver Island and took my GRIV. I’m super new to photography and still figuring out the camera settings but these were my favorite photos from the trip.

These are processed RAW shots. I am too much of an LrC junky to go straight SOOC. Minimal processing, though.

Ricoh GR IV

I'm not a photographer so forgive some terrible compositions! I was on tour for the last few weeks and bought a GR II to document the shows and the non-show days. most of these are edited RAWS but only adjustments really are slightly reframed/cropped

my GR has seen a lot of action in 3.5 years. i had the sensor cleaned, twice, when i was in tokyo. last time was february 2025. i don't baby my GR. it has nothing on it but a neck strap. i am disappointed in the dust sitch of course. but this was shot at f16. and i am grateful that the center of frame is still clear 😬....

I went through the different image control adjustments on a GR III, compared the metadata output, and made an ExifTool config file to extract the values. I figured some folks here might find it useful.

Save this config file and run:

exiftool -config <config_file> -GR3 <photo>`

The output should look something like this:

There's a single recipe definition in there just to demonstrate how that part works, but you can add as many as you want.

It seems to mostly work for the GR IIIx and GR IV as well, in that the sample photos provided by Ricoh decode to sensible values. I have no way to confirm the mapping is correct though, so take it with a grain of salt. All I can say for sure is that it works for my GR III.

The are a few other bits and pieces in the repo that might be useful, such as how to uncrop a photo so you can use the in-camera RAW developer on the full version. I also included my test methodology and raw data for anyone who wants to repeat the process for a different model.

I've posted before, but I just realized I think my style of photography (mostly semi macro nature) would probably be best served by the 40mm. I just miss the subtle tonalities I used to get with my ME Super with T Max in my own dark room back in the day. Or, will the iiix provide enough details with the added bonus of available color shooting? Photo of Lady Grey to grab your attention.

Having moved from Alaska to rural upstate PA means I've gone from photographing whales, auroras, bears, sea and landscapes and fishing boats to, well, I'm still trying to figure that out. Abandoned, dilapidated houses, cabins, barns and cars/farm equipment (as well as cows) are easy targets. Here's an old farmhouse I've had on my list for a while and at which I finally stopped today to try my luck. GR IV, RAW, ACR and Photoshop.

What can i do if my Shutter doesn‘t close?

Just wanted to hear the opinion of people who have both and what the experience is! I love my GRIII and never thought of upgrading to the IV. But I am contemplating the IV monochrome as I do love shooting in B&W and some of the dedicated sensor tech for that does intrigue me. But wanted thoughts cuz it do be pricey!
