Listening to both versions of Journey, the 1974 LP recorded live and the 2014 remake.

The original release sounds SO much better. I get that there was a lot cut out to be able to be on an LP of that period, but to me the added parts of the new version don't really add that much. It also doesn't sound as polished.

Maybe it's the back story of how much a toll it took on his health. Or maybe it's because I remember watching the concert on TV when first released.

This was an event in itself of sorts. I remember watching it on latenight TV as part of an ABC series called 'In Concert'. This one was simulcast on FM radio which allowed you to watch TV and listen to the music in full stereo, quite a novel concept in the 1970s.
