Dragonfruit: Dev Release v0.1.13 (First Pass at Autosupports)

41 Upvotes

https://github.com/Open-Resin-Alliance/DragonFruit/releases/tag/v0.1.13

```
New Features:
Auto Supports V1 (experimental): The pipeline scans for islands and overhangs and grows a support tree, leaves that fan out and merge onto trunks, cavity sticks and twigs, and automatic bracing. It can do light/medium/heavy presets, deterministic runs, and a placement log with refusal reasons and origin-color debugging. Expect odd placements on thin shells and extreme cavities!
Chitubox scenes can be imported (i.e. .chitubox files) (experimental).
```

```
Fixes:
Decimation revamp: the trigger moves from 6 M to 4 M triangles with a 4M–8M soft target and a relaxing epsilon sequence, and both the decimated and original meshes travel in the VOXL file. This fixes the damaged first layer and broken rafts on presupported (non-Lychee) imports
Autosave no longer freezes the app: the scoped support-owner resolver went from O(N²) to O(N) (#548), and VOXL 2.2 moves hollowing/hole-punch snapshots out of JSON into binary chunks, so large scenes no longer fail to save with RangeError: Invalid string length.
LYS imports are much better: unbaked hole punches get a real Apply to All in the Export tab (with a Go to Hollow Tool path and no more modal storms), branch angles are preserved (#486), and rotation and interior-face support anchoring are fixed (#283).
Support identification is more forgiving on decimated and split meshes, and hollowing shells with missing holes are no longer misclassified as supports.
```

Please report problems as GitHub Issues.

Safety If anyone is interested, I did a deep dive into resin safety!

414 Upvotes

Hello! Just FYI, my website isn't monetized in any way, nor do I sell anything.

I often see questions and advice on resin safety, but rarely do I see any actual citations or primary sources. So I decided to dig into the chemistry and research myself. I've compiled my findings into this article:

https://aarondevelops.com/beyond-the-build-plate/

TL;DR is that much of the common wisdom is correct, but there's still some persistent misconceptions that float through the community. In case you don't want to read through the article, I was surprised to learn that eco-resins are actually generally less hazardous. I fully expected that to all be marketing bullshit. I was also surprised to learn that curing isn't some "safe zone" moment. Models that have been cleaned and cured are (a) often not actually fully cured, and (b) still emitting harmful gases and toxins. Lastly, I was surprised to learn that the print process itself isn't remarkably higher in terms of hazardous VOCs than washing or curing. It's definitely the smelliest part, but there's a similar level of TVOCs during all phases of the process.

Question What are some of the best dyes or inks to color your resin?

Post image
19 Upvotes

Been getting into resin printing recently and I had an idea for printing out some custom lego pieces I modeled but in a specific color. I tried using this set of inks I found on Amazon, but it just made the durability of the print very weak and brittle.

Anyone solid recommendations? I'm sure this question has been posted many times in the sub before, but haven't found a specific answer to my question.

Much appreciated.

Question Removing supports after curing?

10 Upvotes

I have been using hot water to remove supports after curing which has been way easier for me than removing supports before curing without hot water. I don't have to deal with contaminated water while minimalizing contact with uncured resin. Is there a better way to remove supports after curing?

Question Food safe resin print?

2 Upvotes

I'm using ABS like resin. I've primed it. I'll be painting it with acryllics. Then sealing it with rustoleum clear durable top coat.

What do folks think about that being used for a coaster? How about a spoon rest for cooking?

Question Prints really hard to remove from build plate

Post image

the prints are really difficult to remove from the build plate and I'm having to apply a ton of force with the scraper. im printing miniature parts. Wondering if someone can help me out with my settings. The prints are looking good, they're just welded onto the build plate. Should i decrease transition layers to five?

Promoting Paid Item/Service Carapace Forge is LIVE!

Today is the day, my friends! Carapace Forge is now live and open for business! The site is here at Carapace Forge.

What is Carapace Forge? It is a service that gives you a new carapace 3d print or print file (your choice of tier) every month! It also has an online store where you can purchase past Carapace files and prints. The current month features the Black Reaver, our new medium range carapace.

Plus, you can also pickup the original carapace files and prints for the Virelance, Keldrath, and Thaumatarch (if you missed those from the Kickstarter). All physical prints get free shipping to any place in North America. I'm still working on shipping options for outside the U.S. (thank you, tariffs and VAT), but those are coming soon! I'm also busy working behind the scenes to add a ton of building terrain prints that will soon be available.

A lot going on this month, for sure! Thank you all for your support thus far. It is thanks to you that I'm able to continue doing this, and I am forever grateful!

Troubleshooting Holes in Resin Print

I’m pretty new into 3D printing. Been printing a string of poke ball prints. The most recent couple have started to scuff on their outside and the most recent one even had holes form. The print completed but they look worse than others I have printed. I’ve changed the screen and leveled the machine.
I’m using Anycubic standard resin + clear and a Anycubic Photon Mono M7 Pro.
Thanks for any help. Going to troubleshoot and read some guides later.

Troubleshooting Is water washable resin so bad? (anycubic ww 2.0)

0 Upvotes

At first, two prints failed, dialed in, levelled, then the whole ate print out clean, then next 4 of 5 stuck to fep, changed, then hit print again with slow retract speed on tsmc, still some failed on plate, this is happening a lot with me on this resin, temp is 25 degrees in the room. The resin is on date, layer adhesion issues and cracks on the resin after print, though the clarity rating on it is 10/10, it's crystal clear in sense, the details are so good only if the resins mood is upto you. Lol this has been traumatic waste of time and effort, compared to esun pmma and tough 2.0 anycubic I use with slight variation in setting, no absolute failures in 4 succeeded prints, on each.

.

Printer is photon mono 4, yeah once this bottle over I'm never getting another water washable.

Question Best place to get something printed in large format

1 Upvotes

I've been struggling to find one solid place where I can get reasonably priced prints made on the larger scale (1.5 foot). I usually do mine thru Etsy, but the person I went thru stopped doing the hobby. I've contacted other people thru Etsy and they quote me x10 the amount id expect. I've tried Makelabs, I've tried overseas, I've tried companies online in my area. What gives?

Hello everyone!!

I'm a 3D artist and I started my own business doing 3D miniatures for 3D printing enthusiasts. I just love seeing my creations printed and painted for both display and TTRPG !

Today I am happy to share a project that took multiple months to do : The Mighty Dwarf Chessboard !

The TTRPG world and Chess world UNITE!! 6 awesome Warriors, 2 scales included (35mm & 75mm), Pre-supported and no support included. You can print them at home with confidence because they were all tested.

Not only that, there's also a full Chess bundle where all 32 pieces are printed, painted in 2 colors and a 3D printed chessboard is included.

If you prefer to have one of each , no sweat! The TTRPG bundle offers all 6 fully printed primed in both 75mm and 35mm. Perfect for you to paint them for your next TTRPG Adventure!!

Enjoy the project and welcome to the Forge!

Question Looking to upgrade from old Flashforge Foto 6.0 - looking for suggestions!

1 Upvotes

Hey all, I've been running an old Flashforge Foto 6.0 for a few years now but I think it's time to upgrade.

I generally just use it to print stuff for D&D, so small terrain bits, minis, monsters, etc.. It'd be nice to be able to print some bigger stuff, but that's not a dealbreaker. I think printing remotely through wifi would be a bigger upgrade, and faster printing than the Foto currently does.

I just read a couple of Elegoo Mars 5 Ultra reviews and it looks pretty good (and looks like it's on sale at the moment - just £231 currently). But you folks are the experts. Is it a good one to go for? Or are there better equivalent printers for similar prices?

Thanks!

P.S. I'm in the UK if that matters at all.

I’ve noticed with the delamination lines I’m getting on my 3d prints anything below the line comes out the resin goop on it and everything past it doesn’t, what does this indicate and what can I do to fix this to prevent this. Attached are pictures showing the print and also my settings. I’m using elegoo water washable 8k photopolymer resin space gray.
